So Mr. Moon and I were having our sunset martini, walking around our estate (ha!) and checking out the chickens and all of a sudden, Shalaya flew up onto Mr. Moon's shoulder.
She did not want to move. He made her feel protected.
He tried to take her over to her nook where she lays her beautiful big brown eggs these days and hangs out. I have cushioned the space with hay. But she did not want to go there.
When we went back to check on her later, she had moved to her nesting place.
I do not understand chickens that well but I understand how one could see Mr. Moon and say, "There is safety. There is the tallest thing around. I trust him."
Yeah. I get that.
Night-night, y'all.
Love...Ms. Moon
Maybe you've talked about Mr Moon in the past, I don't know.....but what does he do? What is his job? He looks like a very gentle man. I could see him working in a hospital or pre-school.
ReplyDeleteRebecca- Oh Lord, honey. Mr. Moon? Well, he sells cars and he owns real estate and is a landlord and he hunts and fishes and he keeps me sane. He played basketball all through high school and college and pro in Europe. He can build houses, fix cars and grow gardens. He is my knight in shining armor and is a wonderful daddy and a wonderful grandfather.
ReplyDeleteBut preschool? Uh. No.
I can see why Mr Moon was a good perch.
ReplyDeleteI would buy a car from Mr. Moon. I may even send my children to his pre-school when he opens it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, my first nursery experience was with a couple called Big Mama and surprisingly enough, Big Daddy. He WAS a lot like Mr. Moon seems.
These are sweet photos.
What a great way to end the day. Love these photos. Laughed outloud at your sister wife comment. And I agree with S, his shoulder looks like a fantastic place to hang out.
ReplyDeletetallest thing around and sister-hen-wife...
ReplyDeleteyou made me giggle tonight
love you Ms Moon
I'm glad you had a day of grateful, and shared it with us.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are fabulous.
As are the Owen being all explorer like.
And the safety of your Mr. Moon.
Funny , I was going to say goodnight, and it made me think of the children's book, Goodnight Moon, which of course I haven't read out loud to book chewers or listeners in years.
But it made me grateful, just holding that image for a minute.
goodnight, Ms. Moon.
Syd- Plus- he's almost seven feet tall.
ReplyDeleteMs. Trouble- I do not think that Mr. Moon will soon be working in a preschool. But if you want to buy a car...
Bethany- It is.
Michelle- Come on- you'd share your man with a hen. I know you would.
Deb- And goodnight to you, too, sweet woman.
That was great! I 100% agree with Shalayla's decision to be on Daddy's shoulder. I bet that experience was completely surprising for him (and you too) when she flew up to his head. I would have been a bit freaked out honestly, but I'm sure glad he let her do it.
ReplyDeleteHey mom, I found out that Cool Beanz isn't open on Saturday for lunch. That's a complete bummer, isn't it? What other restaurant can do my 21st birthday-lunch justice? Hehe.
Such great photos. I love the fact the hens are comfortable enough to ride around on Mr. Moon's shoulder. I don't think Elvis will be coming around though.
ReplyDeletehee hee!!!! lovely....what a lovely man you have...and a sweet chook too
ReplyDeleteAwe. Smart chicken sister.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet!
HoneyLuna- What?! Kool Beanz is closed on Saturday afternoon? That is insane! We shall talk. I love you!
ReplyDeleteMel's Way- Our chickens are pretty comfortable around us. Miss Betty climbed my leg the other day as I sat on the ground next to Owen to get at the pear I was holding. But they do not usually fly up and settle on our shoulders! Well, okay. Never. Until last night.
Screamish- Yep. I'm a lucky woman.
Ms. Fleur- It was quite the moment.
If I were a chicked being fucked bloody, I would jump on his shoulder too. I am so happy for you that you have him, and vice versa.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Mr. Moon is a very good sport, being a chicken roost and letting you catch pictures of the magic. Life is full of little surprises, isn't it? Thanks for the smiles this morning.
ReplyDeleteFrom reading you, I want chickens. If we ever move to the country, I'm getting me some.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a man. Truly some Big Love going around your parts.
ReplyDeleteWhen Angie and I were walking through the bookstor yesterday, the first thing I spotted were whole shelves of books about raising chickens. I pointed them out to her and we both smiled, thinking of you :)
ReplyDeleteAwww. You and Mr Moon. Awww!
ReplyDeletePhotocat- My chickens surprise me daily.
ReplyDeleteKori- I'm happy to have him too.
Mel- Yep. Daily surprises.
Jeannie- I highly recommend it.
Nancy C- If Mr. Moon is involved, it's big.
SJ- For some reason, that just makes me incredibly happy.
Mwa- Yes. We are cute. Like something you'd see in a circus, I fear.
What a cute story and photos. I dig Mr. Moon! Dude rocks.
ReplyDeleteLove,
SB
