I am worried about this cat. There is something wrong with our Jack. He is losing clumps of hair and he has gotten so skinny although he still eats like a horse. He pukes at least twice a day and he may be peeing in the house which is not like him. He doesn't show any signs of being in pain. He's still the same laid-back guy he's always been except, of course, when he believes that Maurice is getting a little too uppity in his presence. So today I borrowed a cat carrier from Hank and Rachel and I will be calling the vet tomorrow to see if I can bring him in. I hate to do that because he so vehemently fights it. Remember the last time I took him and he screamed, "NO!" in the waiting room? But what can I do? He's our boy. I know from experience that neutered male cats can develop kidney problems and I had a beloved cat named George who died of that. We just need to find out.A few nights ago when Mr. Moon got in bed and Jack was between us, I said to Jack, "Do you want to kiss Daddy?" and that cat stood up and went and offered his head to Glen to kiss. He has done this many times. Of course it is my theory that cats can very much understand human language and speak it as well but they are understandably very protective of this information as it is one of their secret skills which they use to control us.
I have many theories.
Today was different for me. I stepped out of my safe zone, out of my routine. Mr. Moon had a fishing trip planned and was leaving this afternoon so I asked him if he'd like to go to Monticello with me for a little lunch date. He said he would love to and so after he did some mulching in the garden and I got some things done around here, we went to the Rev, which is the restaurant where we can sit outside and watch the traffic circle around the courthouse.
They're all gussied up for Memorial Day/July 4, I guess. But it was breezy on the patio with a ceiling fan whirling above us and we enjoyed our lunches very much. While we ate we talked about and looked up real estate on yet another nearby body of water, this one east of us in Madison County, just a mile from the Georgia/Florida line. Cherry Lake. It doesn't look like there's much for sale there but it was nice to think about taking a drive to just explore. There are so many wild and beautiful places near here which we've never seen.
When we got home, Candie was here, cleaning. I guess I still have a cleaner! I do not really enjoy being here while someone is cleaning my house, even such a dear person as Candie so I gathered myself and drove to town after kissing my husband good-bye and telling him to have a good time. I had asked him at lunch how long he'd be gone and he said, "Oh, I'll be back tomorrow," and I said, "Can't you stay longer than that?" to which he answered, "I could but I'd be all alone."
We do make each other laugh.
I went to the library and then to Lily's Publix where we talked and laughed in the new liquor store where she is queen. You want to know a great thing about that liquor store? IT HAS ITS OWN BATHROOM! Sometimes I use it just because I can which makes me feel like the Queen Mother, which I suppose I am. Then I did my little bit of shopping and I stopped by Hank and Rachel's house which is quite near that Publix (in Florida it's all about how close you are to which Publix when it comes to explaining location to anyone) and picked up the cat carrier. I guess it's really an animal carrier. Whatever. We talked for a few moments. Hank's birthday is next Monday and he's got a Everyone-Come-To-The-Beach trip planned on Saturday and we may go. I haven't been to St. George in a long time and I would get to see people like Billy and Shayla and Waylon and other very cool friends of Hank but of course I would have to converse with people and we know how that goes.
I talked to Jessie today and she's having a pretty good time being a camp nurse. It's a completely different experience than being a nurse in the hospital working on the mommy-baby unit and she told me that she's gotten more training being a mom for this specific job than she did in nursing school. She says the boys seem to be fine. We caught up on some things like the latest interviews on the Armchair Expert podcast which she turned me on to years ago, and how the North Carolina family is doing as well as how the Florida family is doing.
Oh. Here's some big news!
I have some crocosmia actually blooming! That's the area to the side of the gate that I just cleared a few months ago which obviously did nothing to control the spread of this tenacious plant.
And yes, that is lovely! But let me give you another view.
That's how much of it is actually blooming.
Sigh.
One more picture of Jack.
What would we do without him?
Love...Ms. Moon
Has Jack become a 3D jigsaw puzzle? No wonder he has not been himself recently. As for watching the traffic near the courthouse while having lunch, I guess that that is what senior citizens do as they approach their seventieth birthdays.
ReplyDeleteJack is a million piece puzzle and so it's amazing he fits into that box.
DeleteIn Monticello, everyone is entertained by watching the traffic near the courthouse, whatever their age. What else is there to do?
sending love to you all and your beloved jack. our frankie is 12 now and every day is a gift xxalainaxx
ReplyDeleteWe don't even know how old Jack is! That's the crazy thing. He came to us fully grown. These animals- they are our babies, aren't they?
DeleteAll the best to Jack and his visit tomorrow. I hope you can get him happily into the carrier. I do not know how I will do the same for Miss Kitty for her next appointment. I am even considering skipping it, to avoid all the claws.
ReplyDeleteJoanne- if I were you, I'd skip the vet. Where is Miss Kitty going to be exposed to any diseases or pests? She's in a pretty cat disease-free environment.
DeleteI hope for the best at the vet. Also at getting there.
ReplyDeleteAy. We're going on Friday morning.
DeleteI hope the Vet visit goes well. We do worry about our fur-kids. They are well-loved and true family members. It is great to hear the camp experience is going well for your grandsons.
ReplyDeleteI hope the vet visit goes okay too. And yes, our pets are definitely members of the family. And just like humans, they all have their quirks and their annoying traits and their cute traits and we love them.
DeleteI think those boys are okay!
I wonder if it could be his thyroid? I do hope they find out what is wrong with him and fix it quickly, easily and painlessly. Oh and cheaply, but we are talking vets here so I guess 3 out of 4 will have to do.
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing that out. I've done a little reading now and it does seem a possibility. As to treatment- will we? There is going to have to be a lot of research, discussion, and heart-searching here.
DeleteHow old is Jack? Like sparklingmerlot, I thought of thyroid because of the hair loss, but the vet will find out for sure what is wrong and I hope Jack will soon be well. My Lola turns 15 next month, (76 in cat years) and has been throwing up for two days, but it appears to be mostly water, so I don't know what to make of that.
ReplyDeleteThe crocosmia flowers are very pretty but that's not enough reason to keep such an invasive plant.
I hope you do go to Hank's birthday get together and have a wonderful time.
Like I told Ms. Merlot, I think thyroid could be the problem. We shall see.
DeleteI hope your Lola is feeling better in the tummy. Poor baby.
You are SO right about the crocosmia. Ain't worth it.
We'll see about Hank's get-together.
One of these days I'm going to run away from home and make my way to Lloyd so I can see your beautiful house and garden.
ReplyDeleteAnd drink martinis and eat fun southern food? Because that's what we'd have to do.
DeletePoor Jack, and poor you having to get him to the vet. I’ll keep a good thought (or two) for you both. I love getting glimpses of your house and gardens.
ReplyDeleteI should do a video of a house tour one of these days. I really might do that.
DeleteLucky you getting flowers on your crocosmia. I have had a large clump for several years and not a sign of a flower. If they were in a more easily got at place they would be coming out!!
ReplyDeleteI hope that Jack will be OK. Do your vets cost a fortune like they do here?
I think it costs an average of £60 just to walk through the door!!
I think the amount of sun crocosmia gets has a lot to do with blooms.
DeleteOur vets are expensive but we do go to a fairly reasonable one in Monticello where the vets deal with everything from kittens to horses. They're not fancy-people vets.
I do Hope that Jack will be Fine and not too upset with his Vet visit. Your Garden is lovely and lush. You almost never see lush in the Desert so you have to pamper things to ensure they'll survive. *LOL*
ReplyDeleteOh, he'll be upset!
DeleteNo, the desert is not known for lushness.
How old is Jack? Poor guy. Cats are so good at hiding their illnesses, it's how they protect themselves. I'm glad you got out and about.
ReplyDeleteThis morning Jack asked me if it was going to stop being cold. Our weather here has not been nice, although we have gotten rain, which we desperately needed. My tomatoes haven't really grown at all, it's been below 10 C every night (50F). The flowers are happy though.
We don't know how old he is. He was grown when he showed up and we've had him for seven or so years so he's got some age on him.
DeleteI hope the weather warms up there soon for Jack and for you and for the tomatoes. I know you're so ready.
Precious that Jack will come to his daddy for kisses. My Miss Bella (14-1/2 yr old border collie/lab (borador is the official name) will wake me up with sweet kisses. She doesn't go on the bed, but will stand next to me and gently kiss me awake. (While Juventus the cat -- at least 18 years old -- is outside our bedroom window SCREAMING for her food at 4:50 a.m.)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day,
Love,
Patricia
Ha! That's hysterical- your rather ancient cat screaming for her breakfast before dawn. Probably not so funny for you. I've never even heard of a Borador.
DeleteMiss Bella is the best dog I've ever had and the longest living. Several years ago "they" (who shall remain nameless) came up with the name Borador probably so they could charge a lot for a pup instead of calling it a mutt or mixed breed and giving it away for free in the newspapers as they did in the olden days.....But, she's the best dog and it's a good cross breed.
DeleteI hope all goes well with Jack and the vet. It is terrible when animals get sick. I hope the vet can help him. Happy birthday soon to Hank and I hope Mr. Moon enjoys his fishing.
ReplyDeleteThe fishing was called off due to weather and Mr. Moon has not been happy. Sigh.
DeletePoor Jack! It does sound like a kidney thing from your description. Hope the vet can sort him out.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your crocosmia is finally giving something back! Maybe it understands you mean business and it had better start performing or else. :)
Kidney or, as Ms. Merlot and River suggested- possibly thyroid. We'll have to wait and see.
DeleteIf this is the best the crocosmia can do, it's not enough!
Jack in the box! Bless his little purring heart- fingers crossed that what ails him can be remedied.
ReplyDeleteThe vibrancy of the crocosmia knocked me right out of my chair. What a gorgeous thing!! Beautiful photo, both of them.
I sure hope that whatever Jack has isn't mortal.
DeleteCrocosmia blooms are pretty but I'm afraid there's just not enough bang for the buck there.
