Scarlett O'Hara Would Be Proud Of Me

Dear Lord God Almighty. I was just sitting here on my back porch thinking how lovely and peaceful it is today, my breakfast casserole in the oven baking to take to Hank's parade party, when something ran across the ceiling above me and it had to be either a small horse or a baby elephant.
I'm not kidding.
That tromping could not come from the tiny feet of a squirrel or a rat or a possum.
What the hell?
Ah. The quiet life in the country.

Anyway, we'll be heading to town soon to see marching bands and Cheryl Hines (the actress who used to play Larry David's wife on Curb Your Enthusiasm who is from Tallahassee) and pirates and wenches throwing beads and candy and beauty queens and who knows what all. It's going to be a fine day for a parade and I feel pretty darn fine myself, despite the fact that I did a bit of early-morning fretting, the way we all do, lying in bed and worrying about things not under my control. The what-if's and how-will's and so forth. Once I got up and busy in the kitchen, the fretting ceased as it does and now I'm going to get dressed and I'm not going to worry about any of it but will especially enjoy the parade through the eyes of my grandsons and be so grateful for family, for friends, for the celebration of this lovely spring.

And I'll worry about that critter in my ceiling another time.

  5. enjoy the day and the parade- we had eggs mixed with leftover dirty rice, turkey bacon and hashed browns. the turkey bacon did not like a 400 degree oven but we salvaged it!

  8. A parade? Who doesn't love a parade? Except for that Klan one in Memphis recently protesting the renaming of parks--no more Confederate hero parks. But there were only 40 of them and their bullhorn didn't work. The hand of the lawd perhaps?

  10. Angella- I did. I am. Thank-you.

Syd- I did. I really did.

    Jill- It really has been.

Ellen Abbott- What could be a better reason to have a party?

Lulumarie- It was a damn good casserole. Our eggs, venison sausage and cheese. Nice.

Mrs. A- Turkey bacon isn't real bacon but it ain't bad.

Wayne- I think you would have enjoyed it, had you been there. Culture shock, but not at the same time.

Janzi- Yep. A good day to be alive. Without a doubt. And a whole lot of Hank's extended loving family was there to celebrate spring and him, too. Good stuff.

Mama D- We have talked about putting a swing there. We should.

Beth- Haha! Reminds me of a scene from The Blues Brothers. Which is one of my favorite movies of all times.

Sweet Jo- Whatever it is living up there is not going to be molested by me. I think that family has been living here longer than I have. Sigh.....

  11. When I hear that sound at my place, it's snow coming off the roof in wide swaths.

You are such a fine writer.

  12. I wondered who Cheryl Hines was. Thanks for clearing that one up!

Scurrying animal sounds always make critters seem a lot bigger than they really are.
