Try To Love One Another. Until You Can't

It's chilly and gray again today but not AS chilly. I have a big (too big, of course) pot of soup made with chicken and greens and carrots and celery and onion and garlic and leftover cauliflower and asparagus simmering, and sourdough rising. I will add a little brown rice to the soup before long and also some left-over risotto. I have squeezed half of one of Jessie and Vergil's huge lemons into it and it will be good, I think. I did not wear a chef's outfit when I made it the way Levon did this morning when he helped make the biscuits at his house.

Could there be a more professional looking chef than Levon?
I think not. May certainly picked the perfect gift for the littles. And Hank and Rachel gave Levon truck stickers from the Dollar Store which he woke up in the middle of the night to play with because...TRUCK STICKERS!

Oh, our babies.
Here are some more pictures from yesterday, taken by Rachel and Jessie.

Our pod party. Or, pods party, I suppose I should say to be more accurate.

We all agreed that it was a beautiful time. Lily even reported that Owen said that it had been a great day because he got to see everyone. Once again, he joined the adults in conversation while "the children" played. I love how he does that. He makes me proud.

It's hard to keep up with the news right now. I talked to Lis today and we agreed that things have been beyond horrific this week. The thing that scares me the most is the information coming out about how much organization there had been before the attempted coup and how much cooperation had been given by the very people who are sworn to protect our government, our Capitol, our democracy, our constitution. Now THAT is the scariest thing to me of all. Of course everyone from the FBI on down had known about the plans to take the Capitol and yet...
And yet?
I don't even need to mention how much blood would have run in the halls if this had been a BLM protest. In fact, I probably have mentioned that. It's as if the rottenness of Trump has taken hold and taken over down to our very core and who do we look to if everyone is in on it?
"Look for the helpers," Mr. Rogers so famously said. What if the helpers are the ones who are causing the terror?
Now who sounds like a conspiracy theorist?
It's not a conspiracy theory if the facts are true, is it?

There's no need for me to recite facts and figures, reports and numbers. There are others who do it so much better than I right here in our community.
What I do not understand is how so many of us have watched this nightmare unfold for over four years now and yet, how so many people appear to be shocked that things have reached this point. Even though at first no one in their right mind believed that Trump's attempt at a run for president would result in anything but humiliation for him, it is now quite obvious that there are so many among us who are not in their right minds. And as for those who are thrilled that things have reached this point I- well, I can only weep. And did even the most enthusiastic of Trump supporters, did even Trump himself believe that this insurrection would or could lead to the overturning of the vote?
Was there reason to believe that the military would indeed step in and take control to make that happen? I am not discounting that. I would much rather think that it was all a bunch of evil idiots who somehow, out of nowhere, rushed the Capitol and posed with their feet on lawmaker's desks and stole souvenirs and pissed and shit and dumped their trash anywhere they pleased and had the gall to take pictures and post them than to think that there had been a carefully and cleverly crafted plan to make this all happen by higher-ups, even highest-ups, who only used those evil idiots to do their dirty, nasty, primitive work for them.
Thank all the gods that be that even though there were deaths and injuries, Nancy Pelosi was not shot, Mike Pence was not hung, and no bombs went off.

And of course, while all of this is going on, more and more Americans are being sickened and are dying by a virus that Trump could have mitigated if he'd had two brain cells to rub together, the humility to listen to the scientists, and enough empathy or humanity to even try.

It's tough days for anyone to try and be an enlightened human being who wants to feel compassion and even love for all sentient beings. As for me, I think I've given up even trying. I'm fairly certain that that is not my role in this lifetime.

And there you have it.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. "Empathy" and "humanity" do not belong in the same sentence as "Trump". I love Levon's colourful chef's outfit. Thanks for giving us another glimpse into the life of your lovely family. You are indeed a very fortunate woman.

  2. Well, you're right about that. The empathy and humanity thing. It is always my pleasure to share the life of my family. Always. And I know with all of my heart that I am indeed most fortunate.

  3. amen Mary! And....may I remark that YOU don't *need* to TRY to feel compassion or empathy. It is part of who you already are. Levon is adorable...mixing that muffin batter...May was so right on that gift! And per chance, did you see the vid Arnold S. made today? It brought tears to my eyes......I've always like him- heck- he was our Gov for years and probably one of the FEW republicans (not that THAT matters) I ever voted for with great enthusiasm.

    1. I saw part of that video. Very moving. He always impressed me as not being all bad, for a Republican. Ha! But his affair and the resulting child didn't make me love him. Which does not mean that he doesn't have something very important to add to the current conversation AT ALL.

  4. Again, you’re right on all counts!
My two year old grandson loves trucks, too, as most boys, i think. I never thought about stickers to play with. I think i may have to see about sending him some!

    1. I would have to say that Levon doesn't love trucks, he's obsessed with them. And all the heavy equipment. At two he knew more about them than I ever will and at three, he's a freaking expert!

  5. I am not a terrorism expert, Mary, but I believe there are many who are. I believe Biden and Harris know them and will rely on them to help expose the rest of the underbelly.
    And, Levon is priceless precious.

    1. I agree with you on the terrorism experts. I hope that Biden and Harris do absolutely get to the underbelly of this.
And I thought you'd love that picture of Levon.

  7. Your account of the party and the little chef making pastry are a great antidote to the rottenness we've experienced this week. This last four years in fact.

  8. first, Owen is indeed transitioning from the kids' table to the adults' table.
Second this was definitely a planned incursion and I believe some members of congress and the capitol police and the DoD as well as the leader of the Proud Boys and other hate groups were complicit. The main crowd was the distraction while the core group went about trying to do the dirty work.
third, the military had already stood together and sent him a letter that they would not get involved in political stuff but Trump is delusional enough to think he could pull it off anyway with his personal white supremacist army and so the coup was on.
fourth, I hope to hell people are taking Biden's and Harris' protection seriously. I fear for their lives. this country has a history of assassination and frankly we are past due for one.

    1. All of this (except for the part about my Owen) makes me sick to my stomach. Literally.
And may there be NO assassinations ever again! But I see your point and I, too, am scared.

  9. I am sick with fear about what will happen at the Inauguration. FBI says there’s a network making plans. I saw a tweet that said ammo would be available. The crazy SOB needs to resign and fly to Scotland like he was thinking about and disappear!

    2. And he needs to stay in USA to face the music. Anyway glad for you lovely day and the chefs outfit is glorious Maggi

    3. Catrina, I was going to say the same thing as Maggi- the UK does not want him. If he does flee, he's going to need to find a country with no extradition agreement. But I think he needs to stay right here and face whatever hell is coming to him. He deserves it.

  10. He is not welcome in Scotland ! I nearly said a few days ago that T probably opened the Capitol doors to let the mob in....seems I might not have been far wrong. Terrifying. Not just for my friends in USA..it frightens me too!
Love the photo of Levon mixing the biscuits.I see that he kept the chef's hat on for his visit with you! You are so lucky to be able to see your family. We are not allowed to see anyone apart from 1 person outside during " exercise" ! I am off on my morning dog walk soon, and hope that there will be someone else on the field to talk to!

    1. I know he's not welcome in Scotland. Probably very, very few places in the world he is welcome. N. Korea? Perhaps. That's where his boyfriend lives, anyway. I don't even think Putin would have him.
Levon was at home when that picture was taken. Jessie texted it to me. But I can see him bringing it over here. Jessie's family is in a pod (bubble?) with us. It is saving my sanity. I hope you got to talk to someone on your walk.

  11. My only hope is that all the carnage and death of January 6th ensures that 45's lasting legacy is that he made it okay for America to HATE again (as if some folks needed help) and that he tried to destroy democracy. A vicious, hateful legacy for a vicious, hateful individual.

    1. Amen. He is a boil on the ass of the lowest scum in the swamp pond. As far as I can tell he has no redeeming virtues whatsoever.

  12. It's also probably coming as no surprise to anyone that as those rioters are being rounded up and (hopefully) jailed, most of them are now crying about how "it wasn't me" and "I was just sitting under a tree eating a sandwich". They're all basically cowards when it comes down to it!

    1. Oh my god. And the clips of people being arrested in airports and dragged off while crying would be hysterical if they weren't so pathetic.

  13. I do think that justice should prevail and those responsible should be held accountable by law (including their lying leader). But I look forward to the Biden/ Harris administration along with the Democratic-led House and Senate moving things forward and healing our country.

  15. It is terrifying to think what COULD have happened. I mean, as bad as it was, we actually got off lightly. The NYT has a story today about the security failures and how that all evolved. I think the cops were partly afraid of being too heavy-handed in the wake of the BLM protests in the summer, when they were rightly criticized for coming down too hard on protesters.

I love how the right-wingers try to blame ANTIFA but at the same time justify the invasion by saying "Our election was STOLEN!" Like, you can't have it both ways, you morons.

    1. Antifa isn't even really a thing as far as I can tell. If it is, I guess I'm part of it but damn- it would never occur to me to go break into the Capitol building and riot.

  16. Exactly what Steve said, you can’t have it both ways.
Levon looks like a total pro! I can’t stand how cute the is!
It’s been a total shit show of how much lower can he go for four long years. Every time it’s lower. What should be a happy times, knowing he’s going to be out of the White House, is
made sad and stressful wondering what’s next.

    1. Wow. You said it! We should be SO happy right now and instead, our entire country is living in fear of what might happen next and as you point out- there is no bottom to this. There is no telling what could happen.
