Trudging

Another gray day in Lloyd but I managed to get off my tushy and put on my walking shoes and I drove over to White House Road. White House is paved but the little road I park on is not but it's well maintained and easy to walk on. It's not very long though, just an access road to a few houses along it. The weather widget predicted that it was going to start drizzling in nineteen minutes (so oddly specific) so I didn't want to get too far away from my car and my route only took me a mile this way and a mile back, and then down the little road and back. It was a peaceful hour and I saw pairs of cardinals and heard the racketing of crows as I walked and when I ducked down a side road to pee, I heard something and looked up to see two big, beautiful does running a few yards in front of me through the woods, their white tails flashing through the trees.
And I never did get wet although as soon as I got back in my car, a drizzle commenced.

The only pictures I took are the one above and this one, not very interesting, really, of mushrooms growing on a downed limb.

It's harder to get excited about taking pictures when the leaden sky prevents any of the brilliant light and resulting shadows that lead to more dramatic shots. Still, a gray day can be beautiful, a different kind of beauty but still, something to be aware of, to recognize and register.

The rest of the day has been quiet. I've worked on August's quilt and done laundry and all that other normal stuff. Mr. Moon's still clearing out behind the garage so that roofers can get to where the leaks are. He's also been clearing out the garage, I think, or at least he mentioned doing that this morning.

I've watched some of the videos online of people who were part of the sickening riot on the Capitol being arrested in airports and dragged away, all of them sobbing and boo-hooing. In one of them, a man who had been taken down to the ground actually shouted, "You're treating me like a Black person!"
And I'm sure that if asked, this is a person who would deny that there is any such thing as white privilege.

Steve Reed emailed me to alert me to a subhead in the New York Times that he knew would amuse me. The article was titled "Trump is Making Pence Look Good" and the subhead said, "Somewhat in the way that Keith Richards used to make the rest of the Rolling Stones look sober."
I wrote back, "Keith is famous, infamous, and still alive!"
This cheered me.

And now I've looked at the news to see that the FBI has received information that armed protests are planned for every state capitol AND the national one from January 16-20.
What sort of reaction can one have besides despair?
Perhaps fear? Anger? Horror?
Certainly. All of those.
It's like all of the dark, evil birds of this country have come home to roost. The gun laws, for one thing. The Republican party's inaction when it has come to Trump, their defense of him, their ignoring of his lies, his wickedness, his encouragement of the breakdown of our society and the very principles this country was founded on, and oh yes- the Constitution. Their support of him. Their lack of any moral fiber or ethics whatsoever as they pander to their basest base.

Here we are and we know exactly how we got here.

I'm going to go make supper. There's absolutely nothing I can do at the moment to change anything and I don't believe in prayer.

Be safe, y'all. Hold on. Live to represent all of that which is good and which is right. That which is love and that which is light. Hold on.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I realized about a week after I scheduled it, that my ten year, routine colonoscopy is scheduled for Inauguration Day. Seems appropriate!

    1. I really can't think of anything more appropriate, truthfully.

  2. That is a rather nicely decorated polka dot log. Day is not a total wash. I made banana bread but had too many bananas so it is more like baby food. There, that's my day...I did not walk a mile.

    1. Did the same today ... banana bread but used too much banana ... totally sunk in the middle! Once cooled, it tastes good but definitely is not bread! LOL Oh well!

    2. I think the moon must have been in mush mood for both of you. Toast that banana bread and it will be THE BEST!

  3. Holding on as hard as I can and beyond disgusted with both our senators, Gaetz has a mad dog gleam in his eyes. Did you see Arnold Schwarzenegger comparing it to kristalnacht? Stay safe,

  4. I don’t have a lot to say about the demented one. You put things into perfect perspective so there’s really no need. I am happy that so many of the insurgents are being arrested. If enough are arrested, does that mean fewer to desecrate the state capitals? I guess we can hope. I do wonder, what do these people do during the long days of winter, covid, no jobs? Don’t they have better things to do? I mean really, this is the best they can do for themselves?
I did walk today, about a mile and a half, my usual in winter. I need to move more, this is not enough for me. Maybe tomorrow.

    1. I have a feeling that they could arrest people for months and it would not do much to clear the decks of the ones with mob mentality and a belief in the Cult of Trump.
I keep wondering too- how did all of these people afford a trip to DC? Priorities, I guess. I don't know. Is that what they used their stimulus checks for?
      Good for you for walking!

  5. My state has a republican governor. In the beginning he was an eastern midwesterner, if you see what I mean. He handled the virus epidemic well in the beginning--last March. Then he began crumbling to Trump. The last and most crushing blow, he signed a Stand your Ground bill. This is not Ohio.
Well, if there will be trouble in state capitals, he can stand his ground.

    1. I'm sorry. I know that you had a decent opinion of your governor for awhile there. What a disappointment. Our governor has just got to be the worst. He's been up Trump's ass for years. He really thinks he's going to be president in 2024. God help us if he is.

  6. I cannot imagine what might happen. I'm only hoping all the arrests will undercut the resolve and numbers of the terrorists. I can't imagine the alternative. That top photo is majestic, even with especially with the gray skies.

    1. I don't think that the arrests will do much except to enrage the other millions of Trump cultists. I swear to god- we've lost our minds. Well, not all of us but a lot of us.

  7. It is as if Trump has redefined Republicanism. Did it have any substance in the first place? Any policies? Republicans have allowed Trump to do this when once upon a time Trump even claimed he was a Democrat. Can political allegiances be like fashions that you change with the seasons? Where is the substance?

P.S. I hope that the idea of assaults on all state capitols is just a very nasty rumour put about by Trump's ragbag army of numbskulls.

    1. I don't think there is any substance to the Republican party anymore. It certainly doesn't have any credence or moral ground. And with Trump- they've had their hands full just defending his slimy ass. That seems to have been their entire focus the past four years.
I do not think that the reports of possible mob violence are just rumors. I think they are founded on very good information.

  8. I'm glad video cameras are so omnipresent these days and we can see documentation of what actually happened, and what these people are really like. At least the authorities will be (hopefully) better prepared for whatever demonstrations come within the next ten days. Trump has caused irreparable damage not only to the country but to the Republican party. Serves them right.

    1. I agree with everything you said. The problem is- those who support Trump see those videos and just get hot and excited. Steve, I am truly scared. Not just for the next nine days but for the very future of our country.

  9. I don't know where we go from here. crazy and horrid people have been given legitimacy for decades and now this is the result. they want an actual violent war. democrats were given a briefing last night, the FBI warning them about three specific attacks (I won't call them protests) planned including surrounding the capitol and white house and murdering democrats to allow republicans to take over the government. I read today that the police forces and national guard have been trying to come up with a plan. basically no shooting unless the violent mob shoots first. I can certainly see that happening, them shooting first. and then what? a fucking battle on the steps of the capitol? also that the reason Pence won't invoke the 25th is because he fears for the safety and lives of his family, and with good cause. so, yeah, I'm going to go do my yoga and turn my attention to something positive.

    1. Oh Ellen, it's all so unbelievable and horrifying. Are the steps of our capitols really going to run with blood? What have we come to?

  10. I read that sources are taking very seriously plots to murder Democratic representatives on and around inauguration day. Good lord, what is the world coming to?

  11. Living down the road from DC (having worked there more than 30 years), having also worked four years in my own state legislature and knowing a number of CHPO's (one of whom texted his wife that he loved her and the kids in the midst of it all...something he had never felt compelled to do on duty in all his years of service, but thought it might be his last chance), January 6th has removed any semblance of 'normal' from the landscape. One can only sit and wait and hope that national security folks in all ranks will do a better job in the future. The very near future.

    1. The very near future is right. I would hate to be part of security at the Capitol right now. Or at any state capitol, either. I hope with all my heart that someone knows what they're doing.

  14. A guy who went to my prep school in Atlanta has been arrested and charged with felonies related to the insurrection. Threatening to shoot Nancy Pelosi and the mayor of Washington, D.C. etc. etc. He was traveling from Colorado where he was SKIING, and he was late to the actual event. White, rich, educated.
