Not A Bad Place To Spend Eternity

I took this on my walk today. Those of you who have been here for some time, recognize the site. It's an old graveyard from way back in the early 1800's and hidden right off a tiny road that leads nowhere but to a horse farm. I imagine there was a little church there at one time. There is a dogwood.
Someone tends it sporadically but not very well.
Still.
It is a place where bones rest, quiet as can be, peaceful and with no need for the world to know of it.

  1. I love, love, love old cemeteries. Because I am a historian and do genealogy I find them fascinating. I have been all over Canada and whenever I plan a trip I make a list of cemeteries that I want to visit. The stones tell stories or sometimes they tell us nothing and I am left wondering.

  2. I do know that cemetery from you previous writing. There is an uncanny feeling amongst old stones, swaying trees nearby, the peace is loud if that can be.

  3. Can you read any writing on the stones? I wonder if it was a family plot and the house has crumbled. I do love an old graveyard. Funny, I don't care to ever be a resident. I want to be left blowing in the wind.

  4. So happy that I remembered where to find you. I haven't been blogging for a while, and now I'm just blogging as myself instead of with a silly psuedonym. (Miss Trashahassee has been put to bed, for now anyway!) Looking forward to reading your posts . I love your blog and I want to put it on my blog list on my own blog. If that's not OK, please just tell me to take it off and I will. My new blog is just plain and simple, happy, joyful. Come visit me!

  7. old graveyards as well as new ones are very interesting and educational. the headstones sometimes tell a story. I myself find the cem. very peaceful. When walking when the breeze is blowing and the sun is peeking out, one can find peace. When I was a girl scout troop leader, I took my little brownies and they so enjoy etching, and trying to find the oldest one. Thank you for bringing back happy memories
