Horse Racing. Yes. Horse Racing

So was it Saturday? I think it was. Mr. Moon told me about this horse race coming up and it was another blah-blah-blah moment for me. The Breeders Cup. A filly running. She'd never lost a race. She runs a very strange race- always stays at the back of the pack until the last moment when she turns into a rocket and then wins. He planned to watch it.
He called me in from the kitchen where I was cooking when the race began and since I knew it was only going to last about two and a half moments, I watched. She stayed at the very back for so long that I kept saying, "No way, no way, no way..."
And then, even though I have never been to a real horse race, would never in my life choose to watch one on TV, I found myself wanting that filly to show up those boy horses. I did. I have no idea why. And suddenly, she started breaking through and the announcer got more and more excited and so did the crowd and so did Mr. Moon and I and before I knew it, we were yelling her name and then....

Well. Here's the YouTube. I know, I know, TWO AND A HALF MOMENTS! But it's a beautiful two and a half moments and a beautiful animal and if you ever spent even one day of your young life loving horses, reading Black Beauty, yearning for a horse of your own...
Watch this.
It's all about spirit and Zenyatta has a powerful amount of that.

  9. My first horse's name was "Ug, "short for UGLY, but she wasn't, not at all. Beautiful, though a little bit on the mean side; she liked to bite. But I loved her, and I loved that clip; I watched it three times because it made me feel better to see it.

  10. Woo-eee, that was exciting! Isn't it funny how sports, (even though I rarely ever watch them), can grab you in like that?
Especially when there are big, beautiful creatures involved- like with basketball. Haha, just kidding. I meant horses.

  11. I'm a horse race pro, being here in Kentucky :) And they say the Kentucky Derby is the greatest two minutes of sports every year...

It is fun though, especially to be there live. All of a sudden, you get really excited and start cheering even if you have no idea what horse you're cheering for!

  13. Wow! Great horse, great name. That was probably the most exciting races I've ever seen! She is magnificent.

I grew up on horse racing. My best friend's dad was a trainer and now her hub is. Spent many a day at the track dreaming of being a jock.

  14. My Aunt Carol took me to my first horse race. She made me yell. She said it's no fun if you don't yell.

    It was fun.

  15. Kori- You know, I had a bit of a question as to why I would post a video of a horse race but hell- it moved ME so why not? I'm glad you liked it.

HoneyLuna- You did not mean just horses. I know you. And you are precious and funny.
I think you should start going to FSU basketball games again.

SJ- The horses are so beautiful. How can you not cheer?

Juancho- Yeah. I know. Poor boy horses never get a break.

Ms. Fleur- I wonder why more women aren't jockeys? Seems to me it would be a natural fit.

Ms. Bastard- I love you AND Aunt Carol. She would have loved that race.
