And One More Thing (For Now, Anyway)

If you love Christmas that is fine with me. I have no problem with that. I will respect your feelings and you will respect mine. And that is how it is at the Church Of The Batshit Crazy where some of us celebrate Christmas and some of us go into major depression and do our best to stay in bed 23 hours a day.

Love....Ms. Moon

P.S. I got that image off a blog called Madness Mom and Me. Thanks, Ms.Madness.

  3. Hey, that picture could be me, on a rare good day.
I don't like Christmas. I haven't liked it since I was a kid. My parents split up right before Christmas, and my asshole uncle (who is now dead, but I still think of him as an asshole) thought it would be funny to wrap up a dead mouse, half rotted in a trap and have me unwrap it in front of everyone. I didn't get the joke 24 years ago, and I don't get it now.
But enough about that. I would be so happy to sleep thru Christmas, straight thru New Years Day. I hate decorating. I hate spending money I don't have on gifts. I REALLY hate wrapping gifts. I hate that I got my work bonus, and instead of buying the Coach bag of my dreams, I'm buying gifts for other people. Some of whom I don't even like. I hate sitting in church til 9:00 on Christmas Eve with crabby and overtired kids.
Ugh, tis the fucking season. Which, unfortunately, is not the same as the season for fucking. At least that's a season I'd be happy to embrace.

  4. Ms. Fleur- Actually- no. I have no idea who she is and I am not kidding.

    Michelle- Well. There you go.

Rachel- Amen on all of that. Amen.

  5. I'm not a fan either. I like candles and christmas carols and the smell of pine wreaths, but all the commercialism, expectation and disappointment and WORK just make me tired. It's really hard to remember what the season is supposed to be about, but I'm sure it's not the orgy of spend and give that it's become. So, Bah Humbug from me, too.

  8. Major depression is part of the deal. Like tinsel and turkey.

I'm still determined to love it for the first time in my life. FOR THE KIDS! No, actually, for me.

  9. omfg, rachelbk. You poor little sweetheart! That truly is a bad one. Hugs to your little self.

I'm scared now. I like the once a year food that connects me to my mother and the twinkly lightand the smell of the tree. I love presents. And cookies. Though I never get to see the Christmas films because I'm in the kitchen.

I dont like the consumerism or waste or stress, I'll admit. Inventive solutions to that are the way to go, I think. Handmade. Heartfelt things.

You big shower of grumpypeople :)

  10. You don't have to love Christmas, Marmee. You just have to love us. And that you do, every minute of every day. That is better than a million Christases. (What the hell is the plural form of Christmas? Spell check doesn't like anything I write!)
    Have fun in Alabama!
    love you all up,
    May

  11. And I love the Moon Christmas Chicken salad. It is a thing of beauty to behold, as well as the traditions you have made for your little family, like the things you put in their stockings. That is what I love about Christmas, the traditions, all the memories of my parents trying so hard to make our Christams happy. They didn't spend a lot or buy into the commercialism, instead we made or bought small things that would be special to the people we appreciated over the year, and I see that tradition at the Moon home. I love you dearly, and agree completely with Ms May, you give Christmas everyday of the year to your family. Too bad everyone can't have the type of Christmas that is celebrated at the Church of the Batshit crazy, because it is special and loving and beautiful and fits all sizes!!! Thanks for letting all of us out here be a little part of that!
    Safe journey North this weekend.
    love,
    K

  12. I love your loathing of Christmas.

May - Maybe the plural of Christmas is Christsmas, like cul-de-sac plural is culs-de-sac. Throw an s in the middle and see what happens...

No, spell check hates that idea.

Christmases? I think it likes that better.

  13. Just think of Christmas as a kids' holiday and that will get you through it.
