Well, it came. Of course it arrived when Mr. Moon wasn't here so I had to heft it in myself from where the driver guy left it in front of the fence. And although it's not as heavy as a horse, it is pretty heavy.
It's very much like the one I had but with different controls and supposedly you can grill in this one too but I doubt I'll be using that function. No need with all the iron skillets I have.
I can't say that I am thrilled with the lifespan of its predecessor but I'm hoping that miraculously, this one will last a lot longer. I really should have taken it to a repair shop to see if it could be fixed. Are there still repair shops? Anyway, I'm glad to have this one. It is such a handy little appliance that I use frequently.
Y'all- ten minutes ago the sunset sky was unbelievable. On fire, not just to the west but to the south and the north as well. We do not get a straight-shot clear view of the sunset but once in awhile it is incredibly dramatic, not so much in spite of the trees but because of them.
I love the moss on the tree on the right there. And all the tiny delicate twig branches on the other bare pecan.
Oh my goodness. And in a breath and a sigh, all the pink was gone, replaced by gray.
I have not accomplished diddly squat today. Hank- what's the origin of that expression? I could look it up but you've been my google since before there was a google.
Anyway, no. I did not accomplish a darn thing. I made our Sunday breakfast and I have to say that my biscuits were exceptionally fluffy today. Also, I broke no yolks. And I cooked some of the sausage that Mr. Moon brought home from Tennessee because of course they make the best sausage in Tennessee.
Well, maybe. But it is good.
Well, maybe. But it is good.
I baked a loaf of sourdough that I started yesterday and for some reason, it's more hockey puck than bread. Oh well. I also did what I do best which is to take leftovers and make more leftovers out of them. Today's version of that story started out with a little less than half of a jar of pasta sauce. It was really good pasta sauce or I would have thrown it away by this point. But it was very nice and so I browned some ground venison and added onions and garlic and peppers and chopped fresh tomatoes. Then I dumped in the old pasta sauce, a can of tomato paste, and a can of tomato sauce. The regular spices went in and it's been simmering for at least two hours on my stove's low, low, low burner setting. I've got greens from the garden to make a salad with and oh yes- that poor, dense sourdough.
Bless its little sourdough heart.
I finished listening to a book I really enjoyed by an author (Lisa Jewell) who seldom disappoints me. She writes what I guess are crime novels but she also is very good at mysteries about families with secrets. Don't all families have secrets? She's excellent at pacing, at characters, at detail. And since she's English and the books are set in England, the narrators are English as well and just that alone can make a huge difference in the enjoyment of listening to a book.
We Americans really do love to think that anyone with an English accent is whip smart, well-mannered, and probably went to boarding school. It's just the way we are.

So after I finished listening to that, I downloaded a Robert B. Parker novel, narrated by Burt Reynolds. I am not at all ashamed to admit that I enjoy a good Robert B. Parker novel and shame does not enter the picture at all when I speak of Burt Reynolds.
I love him. Or...loved him. I mean, he's dead as is Robert B. Parker but the combination of Parker and Reynolds is as good as bread and butter, peanut butter and jelly, fried shrimp and hot sauce and...oh hell. I don't know. Horses and carriages. Mama lips and baby necks.

I have written about Burt before because obviously I've been writing this blog for so long that I've mentioned every human being of any sort of note by now. The post I linked also discusses aging, August and Levon as babies, and politics.
So I'm enjoying listening to that book which is "Small Vices."
When I got up this morning, there were two deer standing in the back yard, just having a nosh of what's growing. I called to Glen and he came and watched them with me. He said they were a mama and an older yearling.
And he should know. I loved seeing them, and tonight we shall eat some very distant relative of theirs.
It will be good and we will appreciate it and give thanks for its life.
Love...Ms. Moon
"My biscuits are fluffy" now that is a great and usable saying! It is a good day when the biscuits are fluffy!
ReplyDeleteAt this point i do not hear English accents anymore!
Yep. Fluffy biscuits are a good enough reason to live.
DeleteSometimes.
You don't hear English accents? Well, I can see why that happened.
It's an odd thing, how much joy Tim gets from watching the deer come across our property. But during hunting season he will, without a qualm, 'harvest' them for our freezer. I don't know how he does it, but he does it. Some days are just made for diddly squat, I think. Since I don't have a Hank, I had to look it up for myself. Origin is 'doodly-squat', doodly meaning excrement, which makes the word squat pretty obvious. In other words, you didn't do shit today.
ReplyDeleteYes. Sometimes it is so comforting to have you to understand this whole hunting situation. Same-same for my man.
DeleteYeah. That makes sense. I did not do shit today.
I have my last giant book check out waiting at the library to be downloaded. I still have no download capability and am SOL until Tuesday. Ask Hank about that! Anyway, I hope I can download more than one at a time. I understand my grandson has now downloaded me to my phone as the receptacle.
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to download audio books to your phone?
DeleteI really like the moody sky/tree pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteThat looks like a toaster oven. I don't think I understand air fryers. I thought they were about small quantities, at least that's what people seem to have said. But never mind!
ReplyDeleteThere are different versions of air fryers. This one also toasts and bakes.
DeleteI have two airfryers. One very much like yours and one that has basket, ideal for fries.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when you get a book by an author you normally like and it's just pants.
If I could recommend a book for either your eyes or your ears, its The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese.
It's quite long but it needs to be.
Happy cooking and reading! Xx
I do fries easily in the air fryer I have. I've never used the basket kind.
DeleteI have indeed read The Covenant of Water. He is a very fine author.
I have both a Lisa Jewell and a Robert Parker book waiting to go (both paperbacks), so it's encouraging to hear you like them both. At the moment I'm listening to a few books on my walks, but you still can't beat a good paperback!
ReplyDeleteNeither Robert nor Lisa are huge names in the literary world but for an entertaining read they are good.
DeleteI would have thought that driver guy would deliver to your door. Jeez. I’d buy the air fryer just for the look. Very cool. Loved reading the old post. Can’t believe how little the boys were. And, I had a major thing for the young Burt Reynolds.

DeleteBurt was beautiful. Truly. And highly underrated as an actor in my opinion. I saw August tonight and I swear he's grown another two inches.
I feel that way about Kate Morton. She's Australian; writes these very involved novels about families and all their mysteries. Just love her. Some people say her writing is too over-the-top; I think I would get sick of reading the exact same type of book/writing all the time, so I enjoy her.
ReplyDeleteI'll try one of hers, Elle. Thanks.
DeleteI have a small airfryer. It's round and has a basket. So far the only thing I use it for is to heat up egg rolls, pot stickers, and crab rangoon that I buy on Tuesdays for our lunch. Much better than the microwave. I have dreams of doing french fries in it and maybe fried fish. I returned the last two books I checked out, one unread and the other only about 70 pages and gave up. I think all appliances have a built in crap out date anywhere from 5 to 7 years so that you are forced to buy buy buy.
ReplyDeleteI do fish and also french fries in mine a lot. Pork chops, chicken... a lot of stuff.
DeleteYour new stove is a thing of beauty. Look how shiiiiiiiiiiny! Do you hear angels sing when you look at it?
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes I do.
DeleteI'm do diddly squat today. It's almost ten and I'm still sitting on my ass. Oh well, I'm retired.
ReplyDeleteThere you go.
DeleteSo, I am still washing the bedding from when my guests were staying here over Christmas - lots of sheets, blankets, comforters, etc. But I throw a load in and then I can feel like I am being productive while I read blogs and books all day! Not quite diddly squat but close... ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd you are being productive! Those things aren't going to wash themselves.
DeleteYour new air fryer looks great. Are certain recipes ideal for air fryers?
ReplyDeleteI see 4-6 deer behind my house regularly. I'd love to have a hunter come and cull the population. Deer over population is a problem. A few years ago, I found several dead deer behind my property. They died of starvation.
There are many air fryer recipes. Just look online.
DeleteThat is so sad about the deer that starve. We've gotten rid of most of their natural predators so their numbers are way out of whack.
That is a very sleek-looking air fryer! I am embarrassed to say I have never heard of Lisa Jewell or Robert B. Parker. I swear I really DO read. It sounds like you actually accomplished a fair amount!
ReplyDeleteOh, Steve. They're just "fun" reads. You're not missing out on anything.
DeleteSometimes trees are just what a sunset needs to be stunning. Too bad about your "hockey puck" bread though. I have Robert B Parker's "Jesse Stone" series on my kindle and have the DVDs too since Jesse Stone is played by Tom Selleck who is a favourite of mine.
ReplyDeleteMy sister loves her oven with an airfryer in it, so I hope you love yours as well! I haven't heard about either of those authors (I'm so out the know lately), but I'm definitely going to look them up. I could use something a little different than I'm used to. Thanks so much for sharing!
