The Holiday Recital

Yesterday I did everything and today I did nothing.
Comparably, anyway. By the time I got up, Mr. Moon was already over at Mood Plaza, dealing with the problem that is so overwhelming that I can't even really comprehend it but the gist of it is that many, many ceiling tiles and much insulation is going to have to be cleaned out and replaced AND the hospice thrift store that is hoping to open soon has already gotten about half the space filled with donations. And rats have been involved.
How's that?
We were completely and absolutely unaware that we had rats in that building but here we are.
So he's worked all day. Vergil helped him a little this morning but he's going to have to hire a crew. An entire crew. The man cannot do this by himself.
He's on his way home right now. Those two boys in the picture are here, already watching TV because that's the sort of grandmother I am. I'm just tired this evening for no good reason. All I did was go to a piano and voice recital and that was rather pleasant. Levon was the second one on the program and he did very well and August was fourth and he did well too. When August walked back to his seat, Levon got off of his mother's lap and came over to August and hugged and hugged him.
I was astounded and it was beautiful.
He let go of his hug after a long minute but August grabbed him back and they hugged some more. Then they both got as close to Mama as they could, the little boys' legs entwined with each others, August with his arm on his brother's belly.
They still remind me of puppies. Litter mates who sometimes nip and paw and growl at each other and then fall asleep curled up together.
There is video of them playing but I don't have it at this moment.

After we'd been back here for awhile, I asked them if they'd like to go out to the garden with me. This was before the TV was on. "No," they said. They were building Lincoln Logs. But before I'd started picking our salad greens, Levon had burst out of the house and joined me and then August followed. Sweet little guys.

They asked if we were having chicken and dumplings tonight and I said that no, we were having pizza and when they realized I was making it "out of scratch" as August said, they were delighted. Let's hope they are after they eat this pizza.

Jessie's been reading Harry Potter to them and they just finished Book One. Luckily, I have Book Two and they asked me if we could start that tonight. I told them that yes, we can definitely do that. I read so many of those books to Jessie and it was a special time in our life. I am very much looking forward to reading to her sons tonight.

I better get busy in the kitchen. Pizza is one of those things that I always think will take no time at all to make and then it takes hours and I'm mystified as to why, every time. I've made the dough which is rising and I've grated my Parmesan but I need to cut the vegetables and olives and artichoke hearts and drain the pineapple. I got pre-cut pepperoni at Publix yesterday. It shouldn't take that long...
She said.

Here's a lousy picture I took of the moon and a few stars last night.

The pecan limbs give it a nice, witchy, eerie feel, don't they? One thing you just really cannot do with an iPhone (or at least I can't) is to take good pictures of the moon.

And here are two pictures that Lily sent this morning.

Gibson and his gal-pal before the Winter Dance they attended together. Aren't they adorable?

And here's Ms. Magnolia at soccer again.

How much do we love the skort and yellow socks? That girl. She is going to rule the world. If she wants to. If she doesn't, she will not. That pretty much sums up Magnolia June.

Boppy's home and in the shower. I better start chopping peppers and onions for three sweet boys' supper.

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. Well, it's not going to be quickly. I just hope it's sorted eventually.

  5. That building issue sounds like a nightmare. Poor Mr Moon.
Your day sounds pretty busy to me.

    1. It is a nightmare. But the man is dealing with it. He is pretty pragmatic.

  6. An exterminator will get rid of the rats, determine how they are getting inside the building and work to block entry. Stressful situation, for sure.
Family pizza night sounds terrific with HP to follow.
The recital and watching your grandsons on stage must have been good fun.

    1. Glen has been finding and fixing any places that the rats could get in and has been trapping them for several weeks now. So that is happening.
I did have fun last night and yesterday. Sweetness all around.

  7. Those puppy-boys! Pizza out of scratch sounds pretty wonderful.

No wonder Mr. Moon has been stressed out. Here's hoping he does hire a crew to deal with the mess.

  8. I'm happy the boys are enjoying Harry Potter, my grandson S began reading them when he was 7 and read the entire series as soon as each book was released, he is almost 30 now. I love Maggie's yellow socks!
I hope a crew is quickly found to get to work on Moon Plaza, the buildings will hopefully be stable before the real winter weather sets in. Do you get snow there? Ugh, rats! but Yay home made pizza! With garlic bread?

    1. The Potter books are so great for reading out loud, especially if you like to do voices, which I love. You can just go all drama queen with it and it's fun.
Maggie is a fashion maven, isn't she?
We get snow here about once every fifteen to twenty years and its never enough to stick. Very unusual occurrence e for us.
No. I don't serve garlic bread with pizza. I sort of think of pizza as a form of garlic bread.

  9. I am sorry not to have left a comment for so long or posted on my blog. I have been very ill and only now feel more able to use a keyboard - albeit on a phone! But I have been reading and it helps to see me through. Today I am posting similar comments on many favourite blogs I have read. From a hospital in France…

  10. Oh gosh, what a nightmare at Moon Plaza. I do hope you can get it sorted quickly (and not too expensively)!

    1. Well, honestly, I think it's going to take a while, at least, and it's not going to be cheap. Being a landlord is not as easy and joyous as one might thing it would be.

  11. What awful news about Moon Plaza. You know it’s bad if Mr. Moon wouldn’t attempt to do it alone. I hope the de-ratting and repairs go well and quickly. Those boys warm my heart. May they always remain close and supportive. The photo of Jessie with them is another keeper! Magnolia is the most chic soccer player around. And I love Gibson’s ever-present (in photos) wry smile, like he knows something he’s not sharing.

    1. So far he hasn't hired anyone but a friend who is as old as we are and even more scatter-brained. I want to grab him by the shoulders and yell at him to get some help from professionals who do this sort of thing for a living and who have the equipment.
      He is so stubborn.
I love that picture of Jessie and the boys. They love their mama. She and their daddy are really the only ones they snuggle with.
Maggie is tres chîc, isn't she? And Gibson is really a very beautiful boy. He has the best hair in the family for sure.

  12. It's so nice to read about all the school activities and what the kids (and grandkids) are doing, performing, playing, but part of me is just relieved that these specific mothering days are over and done.
I hope the rats will go where unwanted rats must go.

  13. Ugh. Rats. I understand why Mr. Moon is preoccupied. My youngest daughter read the first book of Harry Potter when they were a like age. By the time she finished the series, which required midnight book releases and midnight movie openings, she and Harry were still about the same age. It always made me laugh.

    1. Oh my. I don't remember if any of my kids got into the Harry movies to that degree and we certainly never went to a midnight book release. Thank goodness. I have very negative feelings about Rowling's recent rants about trans people but I have to give her credit for getting an entire generation of kids passionate about reading.

  15. the twins were that way for the longest. when one would come for her week of granny camp she would be on the phone all the time with the other and when they were back together again they would curl up on the couch together.
rats. I hate rats. I had rats in the walls of my old house, never saw them but I could hear them at night.

    1. We had rats in our walls here when we moved in. Rats or squirrels or something of that sort. Probably rats. We put out some poison which is no doubt illegal now and haven't heard any in a long time. Which- you know- thank god.
It is the sweetest to see siblings love each other so dearly, isn't it?

  16. I'm glad Mr. Moon is hiring people to deal with the rat situation. Some jobs are just too big for one person and it makes sense to get some help.

I hope the pizza turned out well! And yes, little kids are a lot like puppies. I guess there's a certain commonality among young animals -- mammals, anyway. Maybe not young insects. :)

    1. Steve, I'm not sure he's going to be hiring a crew. I swear that man is insane and if he doesn't, I'm going to throw forty fits. He needs a LOT of help.
Chicken babies always cuddle up together. So- not just mammals. Warmth, protection, comfort, security. It's all there.

  17. a big rat problem is not a pleasant thing and I hope Mr Moon can get it resolved pronto with help! Love your family photos.....my favorite is Jessie with her boys. That look on her face is the quintessential *mother love* photo that brings a lump in my throat.
