Moon And Sun, Sun And Moon

I took that picture last night when I went to shut Moana up. There is one thing that the iPhone cannot do and that is to take really high def pictures of the moon. Well, I'm sure there are lots of things the iPhone can't do but with my limited knowledge and abilities, that is one thing I do notice. Still, that picture pleased me with the lighted curve of the shadowed round moon belly.

It's been another day of do-I-or-do-I-not have covid. I've felt a little worse than I did yesterday but still very few respiratory symptoms. Mostly just aching and tiredness, my skin is very sensitive and my eyes feel weird. Vergil's PCR test came back and he is positive. Jessie also tested positive. So has August. Levon has not but has had the same symptoms. So what is really going on here? Obviously, the Weatherfords do have covid or have had covid and I was good and exposed on Thursday as was Mr. Moon who has no symptoms at all. We both took rapid tests this morning and neither one of us showed positive. The false negative rate of these tests is quite high compared to the false positives.

Of course I should just get myself to a testing place and get a PCR test but the idea of going to Tallahassee today just did not appeal to me in the least. I called around in Monticello but the CVS is the only place offering tests there. But I either need to go to Tallahassee or else just shut up about it all and isolate myself which is not a problem for me. Now- what about Mr. Moon? He is not one of those men who get a cold and moan and whine about it. He is almost toxically apt to ignore any and all symptoms of anything that he possibly can although after living with him for thirty-nine years I do know that if he falls asleep in his chair for long periods of time in the day he is probably sick.
But he's barely sat down today. He was too busy fixing plumbing problems in my bathroom and hanging a new bamboo stick blind for me on the back porch. In the winter when the pecans lose all their leaves, the sun can almost wipe out my ability to see my MacBook screen.

So I did nothing today. I sat on the couch and watched the travails of a formerly ultra-orthodox Jewish woman and her family on Netflix. I do not know why these shows suck me in but they do. I did some more mending but this time on an old nightgown of mine which is really not worth the mending but god, I love it. It's been patched and repatched. It's a nightgown AND a hobby.

The man is off with Tom to an FSU basketball game in Tallahassee tonight so I'm not worrying about supper although I think I might make myself a little stir fry and rice with some leftover venison back strap, mushrooms, and greens. We ate soup last night and for lunch again today and have plenty more for tomorrow.

I just went out to put Moana up and this is what the sunset looked like.

And I found another huge egg in the hen house. That funny hen lays her eggs on the ground right by the door, ignoring six nest boxes. She's probably trying to get out to lay her egg somewhere where we will not find it.
"Thank you, Moana," I said. "You are a very sweet hen."
She murmured a sleepy response.
I am so glad to have a chicken in my life again.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Chaucer wrote, in the 1300's, that he saw the 'new moon, with the old moon in her arms' and your photo looks just like that. xo

    1. I'm okay. Just a little thing, you know.
When you see something you think you might want to take a picture of- just do it and if it doesn't come out well, delete it. But once in a while, you will be pleased with what you captured. That's my experience, anyway.

  3. I'm sorry there's so much illness around you. I hope everyone tries yo contain the virus by doing what you're doing-- isolating. And I hope you all recover quickly.
The new moon with the old one in her arms is a sign of storms, according to the narrative of Sir Patrick Spens, in Coleridge's poem.

    1. That is something I do love about Florida- our skies change so often and so quickly. And not just night and day, of course!

  6. I think your photos are lovely. When my daughter was little my father told her "that moon looks like a cradle to me" and she would say that for years.

    1. And sometimes the moon does look exactly like a cradle.

  7. I have a very old iPhone and it would just show me a bright spot with no definition if I had tried to take a picture of that sliver of a moon last night. We are supposed to be getting new phones tis year and I'm opting for the one you have. Not yours! haha I'm glad you have a chicken in your life again too.

    1. Oh, Ellen! I can just see you sneaking into my house in the dead of night and taking the charger out of the phone beside me while I was sleeping, pocketing my phone and tiptoeing back out, softly pulling the door behind you! I love it!
You are going to love your new phone. All that storage!

  8. I heard the latest varient isn't so much coughing etc. You probably have it. Drink lots of water and go to bed and sleep for a couple days. Anyway, I would.

    1. I've had almost no coughing. And I dare not sleep all day for fear of not sleeping at night! So I guess I am not very sick.

  9. Hubby got Covid four days after helping a friend move appliances. Friend had just flown in to Tampa and tested positive the day before hubby. Two days later I tested positive and our symptoms were totally different. Hubby had a cough and flu-like symptoms. I ran a 103° fever and slept 18 hours a day. I was quite pissed about it too. We’ve followed all the rules, got vaxxed and even had a booster four days before testing positive. I felt like death warmed over, and can’t imagine how sick people who didn’t vax must get.

    1. It was such a short time ago that getting covid was so, so scary. And now- well, it's still a bother and a pain and it comes down hard on some people but we aren't so worried about ending up on in the hospital now. I am grateful for that.

  10. Well, those rapid tests have a high failure rate. If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck.

I'm so glad Moana came into your life.
    Hope you feel better soon.

  11. That moon picture is gorgeous. Just wonderful. And you probably do have covid, but it is such a strange thing, that covid. We wound up taking our William when he was still considered contagious. There was no choice. He wore a mask while he was here, but both of us expected to catch it. His mother and S.O. did. We did not.

I'm glad for Moana, for the simple gladness she brings to you.

    1. Third negative test today so...
I am glad you and your husband did not get William's covid.
      Moana does make me happy.

  12. I've heard that PCR tests are recommended because the original rapid tests aren't able to detect the new variants of covid that are going around masquerading as heavy flu. Anyway, it's your own choice and you could easily enough isolate if you do become ill. Fingers crossed that you both don't get it.
I love the sky photos and another big egg from Moana.

    1. Yeah. I figure if I really do want to know I'll go get a PCR test. Meanwhile, I'm happy at home.

  13. I hope you don't have Covid, but who the hell knows anything anymore? I do know that the stacks of rapid tests in my bathroom are probably useless or just mildly useful and getting a PCR might ease your mind?

  14. Well...hope you don't test positive buttt...with so many in the family...doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure things out.
Stay in, drink lots of liquids and please call your doctor's office Before you get worse! (the nurse in me never gives up!lol)
    Big hugs

    1. I NEVER call my doctor's office unless I have no other options! That is just me. I have a neurotic anxiety about going to see doctors. But thank you, Donna!

  15. I'm glad you have a chicken too. And fresh eggs!

When I had Covid, my symptoms were very similar to yours. I never had much of a fever or the whole taste/smell disruption thing. I think given your exposure it's wise to just assume that you have it and isolate until you feel better. I wouldn't even worry about testing unless you get worse and need treatment. (God forbid!) As for Mr. Moon, in Britain, exposure alone isn't enough to keep a person home nowadays.
