The man is home! He got in a little before five and both Maurice and I were so happy to see him.
ARE happy to see him. And have him back where he belongs. I keep searching him out and asking for more hugs. We are way behind on those and have some catching up to do. He's already made me laugh more than I've laughed the whole week he was gone.
Maurice was on the back porch with me as I was pinning more of Levon's blanket and I had just said to her, "Daddy's coming home," when we heard the kitchen door open and close and she raced into the kitchen. Usually, when she hears that door she races away to hide.
(And as an aside: I get a little icky feeling in my stomach when Glen and I refer to each other as "Mama" and "Daddy" to the cat. I don't know why we do this but we do.)
I had a big day in that I had my eye-doctor appointment today. Eye exam. Whatever. I'm always scared to death that they will discover evidence of a brain tumor when they look into my eyeballs. However, the lovely Dr. Lyons found no brain tumors via my eyeballs today and, in fact, told me that my eyes look very healthy. The blood vessels in them (which can be an indication of all of the blood vessels in the body) look good, there's no signs of glaucoma or macular degeneration or cataracts. In fact, she told me that I don't need to worry about cataracts for a good long while. She also told me that cataract surgery is the number one surgery done in the developed world. That's something I did not know.
I do, however, need a new prescription which I did know. I will be so glad to see better. It is curious to me that the basic technique for determining the prescription for glasses is the same as it was when I was eight years old.
Which is better? One (Click) or two? (Click) Which is better? Three? (Click) or four? (Click) One? (Click) or two? (Click.)
I always feel as if there is a definite correct answer and that I must strive to get it right.
And then of course there is the hard-sell on the new glasses. I fell for it today. I was just going to take my prescription to Costco like I did last time but by the time we'd reached that point in my visit today, I felt like all of these sweet employees wanted nothing more than to get me the best deal and make sure I was happy.
What the heck?
I know you can get really fine glasses online for so cheap but I am afraid to try that because I need progressive lenses with a prism and have an astigmatism along with the usual near and far distance correction needs.
I picked out a pair of frames after sending pictures to the kids for their input. Both set of frames looked almost exactly the same but I am getting these.
Whatever.
There is no restaurant meal your boyfriend had in the past week that will surpass anything you make for him tonight. And those glasses are a lovely shape and color. I did actually get my best pair of glasses online, chose the $35 frames and sent in the prescription and they made it up just right. The prescription part cost quite a bit because like you I have a complicated vision situation but they did ok. Better than the fancy schmancy glasses place I got the in person service though those folks were nice too. Welcome home to your boyfriend! Haha I love that.
ReplyDeleteI might try that for sunglasses. Costco's frames aren't bad but that sounds so interesting. May got her last glasses through an online company and they are darling.
DeleteThe place where I got my eye exam and the glasses was not fancy schmancy at all. It was actually pretty down home. The ladies who worked behind the desk were the same ladies that helped me find frames and then wrote everything up. But I have definitely been in those fancy places and I just get out of there as fast as I can.
I have always been Mommy to all my kitties. Everybody needs a mommy and I get to be theirs. Never have there been any complaints. After all, I am the person from whom they get all their mommy love and food and clean litter.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is true, Ana. And I do tend to call Maurice "baby" although I call a lot people "baby" too.
DeleteI do like the frames you chose. All is right in your home tonight, the three of you will sleep well. It makes such a difference when all are home.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice having him here last night.
DeleteOh I'm sure there's a definite correct answer to the eye glass prescription test. I also fear getting it wrong, and even tho my eye doc is a very nice person, I imagine her putting a big x over my answer after I leave. And I am mama to my cats as well. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I haven't gone as far as the big x imaging but I do worry that my prescription won't be right because I did not answer the questions correctly. We're so silly.
DeleteThe blue frames definitely suit you, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI like blue.
DeleteI like those glasses, I like them a lot. And that color blue you are wearing is definitey your color. SO good to see your sweet face. I know your husband was happy to see it too. And to be eating your fantastic cooking. Eating out is good but doesn't compare to a good homecooked meal in my book. Hope y'all cuddle up and have a peaceful sleep.
ReplyDeleteAngie D
Well, he probably was happy to eat at home.
DeleteI think I'm going to like those glasses. I've been wearing red ones for four years now!
Great color for the frames.
ReplyDeleteChanging what you call Mr. Moon will only confuse Maurice and maybe even precipitate retaliation.
Oh lord. I can't take any more retaliation!
DeleteAll is right when everybody is home. That's how I feel. A home cooked meal is always done to perfection and with love.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, Maurice can give up her mouse delivery program!
Your new frames are lovely, and I like the blue too.
At least if Maurice brings me more mice, Mr. Moon can deal with them.
DeleteThose glasses look lovely on your lovely face!
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet.
DeleteLOVE the frames! Your eyes are so healthy because you eat leafy greens and fish- no better diet for eyes than that! You're a beauty , Ms. Moon!
ReplyDeleteOh god. I am the furthest thing from a beauty and I may just have good genes when it comes to my eyes although come to think of it- my mother had macular degeneration. So who knows? I do eat a lot of fish and greens.
DeleteHow funny. MY first pair of glasses were blue as well! Wonderful cat's eye things.
ReplyDeleteI do believe mine were cat-eyed too. I have a friend who wears vintage cat-eye glasses. She has for as long as I've known her.
DeleteHappy for you. The blue specs look good!
ReplyDeleteIf they make me see better, I will be so happy.
DeleteLast time I went to the eye doctor I had picked out my new frames in about five minutes. The technician just burst out laughing because I was so quick but then I really don't care that much. I'm pretty sure we bought this house in about two hours and yesterday I bought a new handbag in about three minutes 'cos the other one was broken! I wish I could be the same with decluttering!!! I'm glad Mr. Moon had a good time but that he's back where he belongs now!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think those blue gasses were the first ones I tried on. I kept going back to them.
DeleteYou are a make-your-mind lady! You get it done.
I'm so glad for you that he is safely home again.
ReplyDeleteI also have astigmatism, but I also have cataracts and a small tear in one macular. I hate getting new prescriptions because ther are always wrong somehow and reading is impossible so I take the glasses back and they say, perhaps we made them a little too strong, and then I get something that is almost exactly what I had before which makes me wonder why I bother getting tested in the first place. I don't know what progressive lenses with a prism is but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to manage that. The new blue frames are perfect on you.
The prism brings images together if you see double which I really did not realize is what I was doing. I think my eyes just didn't focus. So I learned something yesterday.
DeleteYour new specs look lovely. Don't worry about having your cataracts done in the future. I had mine both done together about 6 years ago and it is easypeasy! No pain, just a bit blurry for a while!
ReplyDeleteHopefully if Maurice brings any more creatures in she will be taking them to her Daddy now!
I've heard that cataract surgery is easy and can improve eyesight.
DeleteSome things about modern life are pretty okay.
For some reason, I think that Maurice believes I'm the only one who needs help with fresh food. Who KNOWS what that cat thinks?
No restaurant could compare to Mama’s home cooking. When I talk to our cats, I refer to Jerry by name. He often refers to me when talking to them as Daddy Mitchell, which makes me cringe. I had friends in Boston with two dogs and they referred to each other as Bobby Daddy and Dicky Daddy. Double cringe! Anyway... love that photo and the glasses. I also can’t help but feel like I’m giving the wrong answer during those eye tests. (I’m overdue.) I had progressive lenses in the past, but never a prism. Does that make you see rainbows? If so, I want in.
ReplyDelete"Daddy Mitchell." I love that. Although yes, it really is pretty cringey when we refer to ourselves as mamas and daddies of our pets. Bobby Daddy and Dicky Daddy though...that's taking it too far. In my opinion, anyway.
DeleteNo, the prism doesn't make you see rainbows. It just helps you not see double which I didn't realize is what i was doing. I've had the prism correction before but didn't know that's what it was called and now I guess I need a stronger one. But it would be cool if it made us see rainbows.
Love your glasses. I get black frames, every single, boring time. I am always amazed my prescription is right; I think I am awful at that "is it better here" or "better here" testing they do.
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess that is exactly how you know you passed the test! The right prescription!
DeleteI don't like having to pick which is better -- always think I'm getting it wrong! And I get my frames lightning fast, because I know what I like and so does my op. doctor st this point.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't it funny that we all feel the same way about the eye test when obviously, there is no RIGHT answer because it is our own personal perception?
DeleteI so admire people who get really dramatic or offbeat frames but I just am not that sort of person, I guess.
Glad Mr. Moon made it home safely. Your glasses look terrific, Mary!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ellen.
DeleteI only Wish Eli were a Hunter like your Huntress. We had one Mouse and have had our Exterminator lay down so many Traps it's ridiculous and so far haven't neutralized the intruder! Glad your Man is back and hope his trip was enjoyable, if it was for pleasure... but, even if it was for business, perhaps he could squeeze in some pleasurable activities too? I know when The Man was Active Duty Military they sent him away a lot and neither of us liked it, but you get used to it.
ReplyDeleteI think that my cat brings mice in from outside! I swear!
DeleteGlen's trip was for pleasure- to spend time with his sister and watch her granddaughter in a volleyball tournament. And he did get to go fishing but didn't have much luck.
I think picking out glasses frames is about the hardest thing to do. My most recent glasses are wire rims. The ones before that I lost in the flood were brushed steel rectangles. I was going to opt for take out when Marc got home Sunday but he said all he'd had was restaurant food all weekend so I made a pizza instead.
ReplyDeleteI've had wire rims. It was pretty easy for me to pick out those frames. I saw them, liked the color, tried them on, and thought, "These'll do." I sent a picture to my kids and they all said they like them so...
DeleteI should make a pizza soon. I am back to not being able what in hell to cook.
Your glasses are lovely and the blue suits you very well. I took a photography course last night, via zoom, and I had to chuckle to myself because the instructor and I had the same glasses.
ReplyDeleteNice to know that Maurice loves you so much. Have you ever considered making a mouse stew? Sorry, made me gag a little.
I spent the morning trying to make some pottery here at home. Our instructor gave us some clay to take home. I found out that making stuff at home is even harder than at the studio, I did get to listen to CBC though, so there's that:)
The mice she brings me are usually so tiny that it would take ten of them to have enough for a serving. That is a little gaggy, isn't it?
DeleteI can't even imagine trying to create pottery at home.
I could have sworn I commented on this post the other day, but maybe I just read it. In any case, I love the new blue glasses!
