Pretty Near Perfect

Well, the cat is gone.
Which...thank god.
It was infatuation at first sight for us and for cat. She crawled up into laps. She purred. She looked at the dogs and did not fear. We fed her. Of course.
And I brought her to bed with us because it's been forever since I slept with a cat and she was just so soft and clean and purry.
And all night she wanted to sleep in my face. Maybe in my mouth. It sure seemed like that sometimes. And every time I turned over she had to go through the digging of the claws into the sheets and my chest and my face to rearrange herself to align perfectly with my molecules and Mr. Moon said that every now and then she'd crawl over to him and tap his nose.
At 4:30 I got up and said, "That's enough."
I put her out into the hallway with the door open to the outside and went back to bed. She made her way outside around the house, found our window and began to cry a bit piteously. I ignored her.
And this morning, she is gone.
She is someone's pet and that's all there is to it. There was no crustiness to her at all and she's obviously used to people and dogs.
But it was fun while it lasted and she sure was pretty.

And this morning is another glory day, light and cool and green and blue. We just ate a late brunch (although since there was no cantaloupe involved, technically, I'm not sure it could be called brunch) of scrambled eggs and biscuits and potatoes with peppers and onions. Lily's going to bring the boys out to play. No one appears to be in danger of puking, the birds are industriously snapping seeds at the feeder, the chickens are scratching in the dirt, there's a plane flying overhead, the lizards are mating, I feel full and lazy and happy and content.

Sunday in Lloyd and once again, no place I'd rather be.

  1. At 4:51am this morning I had a discussion with my cat that went something like "I know you just want to be outside, catching birds, and running around, but you can't and I need you to shut the hell up."

They're soft and cuddly when they want to be....and I bet s/he will be back around to visit a time or two before all said and done.

  3. Huh! At 4 am this morning my conversation with my handsome black Jack went something like, "get your hairy a** out of my face, it is NOT time to feed you yet, that's it- to the porch with you, I gotta pee anyway.."

  4. My three a.m. conversation with my cat was "Kamir, shut the hell up, you're going outside and I don't give a shit if it's snowing, you can go f*** yourself!"
Who talks to a cat like that?
Me, on 2 hours of sleep.

  5. This morning, while sitting on our deck and watching the hummingbirds and listening to the cardinals singing at the top of the evergreen, I told my hubby that for three seasons of the year this is my favorite place to be. So we decided to spend those seasons on our deck, and that 'other' season will be spent chasing warm weather. Sounds like a good plan to me!

  6. don't know what time it was but it was still dark. me to cat: "no, you aren't going outside, it's still dark and it's not safe out there". just shutting the door to the bedroom doesn't work. she sits there and meows so I close off the back half of the house with her in it. I can't blame her, I've indulged her for all these years getting up and letting her out, usually about 4/5 AM, but now that she's been injured for the third time by another cat, she has to wait til it's light.

  7. I get the pouncing in the middle of my back most mornings from a 15 lb. Siamese. Lord, that cat is heavy and solid.

I hope the cat made its way back to home.

    Beautiful day here too.

  8. Pretty kitty. My evil dog caught a cat today, finally - I hope it's ok, he got his teeth into it, little murderous bastard.

I guess it's not exactly his fault, he was bred for such things. I really curse that guy who we paid to do our 'fence'. Grr.
