Home And Happy

This is a picture taken from my kitchen into the little space that has a tiny bathroom on the right and the pantry on the left. Obviously, I am not of the "less-is-more" school of decorating. Tchotchkes come into my life and I generally hang them somewhere. I think I recently posted about the group text my kids and I had awhile back where someone had gotten something and sent a picture and said, "I love it but I don't know what to do with it."
Hank replied, "Hang it on the wall! Did our mother not teach you anything?"
I will hang just about anything on a wall. Or in a window. The newest addition to that mess in the picture is the large metal spoon. It was Glen's grandmother's.
Sometimes I dream about living in a space that is bare and spare with nothing but the most functional of items and perhaps a lovely jade tree in a pot.
Yeah, well. Maybe next lifetime.

Dang I'm tired tonight. More tired than I was yesterday after I had a walk and worked outside some and all I did was drive to town and do stuff there, none of it requiring any more physical labor than walking from the car to a building. It was a good day and I had fun. I got to see Hank and Rachel who met us for lunch after Hank's appointment, and then Lily who was serendipitously on her lunch break when I got to her Publix to do my shopping. So I sat and chatted with her and was glad to have the time with her. She is so busy now, busier than any woman should be, working full-time and taking care of her children. She is tired all of the time and no wonder.
Where Hank and Rachel and I ate lunch is just a few blocks from the co-op and so before I took Hank home, I asked if he'd mind me stopping there to get some golden seal root powder. He is so happy with this weather that he was not upset at all to sit in the car with the windows down while I ran in. They keep the golden seal root locked up and so that was a little bit of a process but not bad. I use it for wound healing but some people claim that it can clear your system so that you can pass a piss test if necessary. Luckily, that has never been a problem for me. Golden seal is quite expensive and at the co-op, when you buy spices and herbs from the bulk jars, you scoop out what you want into a bag and then you put a twist tie on the bag with the product number on it which the cashier can then code in when they weigh the product at the register. Sometimes people used to put another product's number on it, perhaps something like turmeric which looks about the same, in order to cheat the system. So in an effort to block these nefarious people, they keep it locked up and watch you bag it and tag it.
I understand.
So I got my golden seal (I only buy tiny bits of it at a time- you don't need a lot) and drove Hank home and then met Lily, as I said, and then did my grocery shopping. I bought some salmon! Yay! I'm going to cook that tonight. Then I went to the library and got a few books and came home and yeah, I'm fairly well exhausted. That was more socializing and people-seeing than I've done in awhile.
I am such a borderline agoraphobe. Or something.

I've only heard briefly from the man today. He said that their first hunt this morning was fun and successful. He also texted to tell me that the soup I sent with him was 100% thumbs up and that one of the guys said that if his wife cooked like me he'd weigh 400 pounds. I texted back, "Well, then I guess I'm glad she doesn't."

I think I'll be going to bed early tonight. I did get out the duck- I mean, temperatures in the mid-thirties certainly call for it. Jack didn't sleep with me last night, probably because my room is the coldest room in the house- even on the chilliest nights I keep my window open a little bit and have the bedside fan on because I love to burrow down under the covers and if/when I wake up with a little hot flash, I can come out from under them, flip a few of my many pillows, and sigh with huge satisfaction at the instant heavenly relief.
Jack, however, does not feel the same, I guess. Or perhaps he was simply tired of sleeping on my bed after spending an entire night and day there.

Tomorrow I will be going back to town to pick up Levon and August from school and hang out and do fun things with them. I bought two boxes of animal crackers at the store for them today because of course they expect their treats. I need and want to get together with my other grands but their schedules are pretty filled up these days.
It'll happen.

I feel that I have been horribly remiss in my posting of Rolling Stones videos but I will give you a bit of news- they appear to have been in the studio and apparently will be releasing their first album of new material in eighteen years next summer. Also, they plan to tour America, South America, and Europe following that.
God love those old boys.
I sure do.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Love all your goodies in, on and around the window. My theory is...the more the better (or merrier). I tried leading a minimalist life once. Talk about a barren existence. No thanks. That was downright depressing. Look forward to your visit to the Gypsy Soul. Maybe you could snap some pics when you're in there. Sounds like fun. Keep us posted.

    1. Honestly, until I took that picture I didn't quite realize the extent of my hanging stuff. I actually think I may start taking some things down. BUT NOT MY ROOSTER!
I will take pictures in the boutique.

  2. I like the oasis of blue and green bottles in the window surrounded by hot peppers, a bright rooster, and strings of mini-pitchers. Although I love looking at it on my computer, I couldn't do it in my house - it would make me terribly claustrophobic.

    1. Well, that is one of the smallest areas in my house. But it is a lot, I admit.

  3. That picture looks like my downstairs bathroom, my tiny gallery.

  4. We have switched to daylight savings and for some reason your posting times don't line up anymore so I missed yesterday (we had visitors so I didn't get a chance to pop in later in the day). I love your hanging stuff but it would drive me batty trying to keep the dust off. We seem to get a LOT of dust. There is a quarry a couple of miles away - it could be that I guess.
I am glad Mr Moon is having a great time and your soup got the thumbs up of approval. Even happy days with loved ones can be overwhelming. Have some down time now.

    1. What?! One is supposed to keep dust off of things? Haha! Now and then I do take everything down and wash it all. I have a lot of dust too and it's a rather greasy black dust which I think comes from the railroad track which is so very close to the house and has been since the early-to-mid 19th century.
I am looking forward to my time alone this weekend. It will be nice.

  5. love all your *things*.....but I'm not diligent with my own dusting and would have difficulty tackling all of your things, eye pleasing as they are. Glad you saw fam. today........... and I am SO envious of your temps and need for the *duck*. OK.......we hit 94 today...it's still 90 now at 5:30pm......I am SO over the heat. SO. Can only hope to sleep tonite but may not happen in this heat

    1. See my comment above about dust!
It is so very nice to sleep under the duck. I am happy about that.

  6. We haven't switched back to normal time yet, but I have the winter goose on the bed. About three times as thick as yours.

    1. Yes. We go for the more lightweight down comforters here. Still, so very cozy.

  7. I understand your walls- the children in this family think that we live in a museum of weirdness. They make fun of the stuff but I know that they like it and are in wonderment! You golden seal was always a stand by until I met this marriage. It works so well for stopping blood flow when the tip of a finger has been sharply removed.

    1. Children LOVE my wall stuff in the kitchen. It is so fun for them. I'll never forget my niece when she was very little, sitting on the stool at the center cabinet saying, "When I grow up, I want a house just like THIS!" Her eyes were big and bright as stars.
I've never used golden seal for bleeding. I will have to remember that. I have used it mostly for wound healing at which it works astoundingly well.

  8. I love that little space filled with pretty things. I have quite a lot of "stuff" around me too, I prefer homey over clinical. Although I wouldn't mind if the dust would settle in someone else's home for a change.

    1. Dust will be dust and will fall where it may.
I admit I may have too much stuff but I cannot abide sterile surroundings.

  9. I'd never heard of golden seal root powder so had to look it up. Given the price they're charging for it over here I'm not surprised they lock it up!

    1. Well, about fifteen dollars worth will last for years so when you look at it like that, it's not so bad.

  10. I love what you have done there but in my tiny space it would look like a junk shop. I'm glad you use golden seal. I should get some.

    1. I suppose my own kitchen could be perceived as a junk shop. My husband probably does!

  11. Maybe you could devote one room of your house to minimalism and have a jade plant and some tatami mats and nothing else in there. And nothing on the walls. :)

(I like your eclectic decor, though, for the record!)

You certainly had a busy day! I don't even know what golden seal is. Is it a plant? Isn't it also a brand of flour?!

    1. I suppose I could do that Steve. Somehow though, it would not be me, would it?
Golden seal is indeed a plant and the part I buy and use is the powdered root. I don't think I've ever heard of golden seal flour.

  12. Socializing is more tiring than physical labor. Different kind of tired. I love your newish header picture of your house btw. And your decorating style is very similar to my sister's though a bit more random and eclectic.

    1. "Random" and "eclectic" are certainly kind words to use in this situation. "Insane" would probably be another one that could be used. Aw well. I love what I love.

  13. I love your decorating. Don't change a thing.

I'm glad you got to spend time with your kids. What does Mr. Moon do with the ducks he shoots? Do they bring them home?

    1. Mr. Moon has brought some ducks home before. I don't really know what they do with them although I am pretty sure they get eaten by someone.
Thank you for liking my "decor."

  14. I like your colorful rooster up on the wall. I have a big rooster on my wall that came from my Mom's kitchen and my oldest son has already claimed dibs on it when I die.

    1. I wonder who will want my rooster. Someone? Anyone? Mostly only the grandchildren have the chutzpah to ask outright for belongings when I die. I love them for that.

  15. Eighteen years since The Stones last put out a new album of original material. Surely, it's highly likely that this will be their very last "new" album. Maybe there'll be a song about you with Mick strutting his stuff...
    Mary Moon
    I'll see you soon
    In a place called Lloyd
    We'll be overjoyed
Keith will take you on a country ride
Heaven bound but no one died...
