Cold, Wet, And As Owen Said Today, "I've Used All Of My Weapons On My Friends"

About two weeks ago my thirty-year old Cuisinart food processor finally and completely died. Well, actually, the motor runs fine but the little plastic pieces on the bowl lid broke too much for Mr. Moon to fix and things flew off of it and without those pieces, the processor, she will not run.
My food processor is not an appliance that just hung out on the counter taking up space. I used that thing a lot, mostly for chopping and also, for making some types of bread. I use it to puree soups and ingredients for soup. I use it for the Traditional Chicken Salad which I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of this year but I did forget. It basically looked like all of the Traditional Chicken Salads I make so if you've seen one, you've seen them all. And I had to borrow Jessie's food processor to make it. I believe that Mr. Moon's mother put her chicken through one of those meat grinders that you bolt to the table which looked like this.

It was, for its time, a very fine piece of kitchen equipment.

However, I do not have one nor do I want one.
I wanted a new food processor.
So we did a little research on-line and found the one we thought would suit my needs best and Mr. Moon found a website that offered them for almost eighty dollars less than the usual price and I thought the whole thing looked a little sketchy but damn if the thing didn't arrive today, right on schedule.
See picture above. Maurice likes the box.

And I guess the message here is- I got a new food processor which is hardly earth-shaking but I am looking forward to using it. I have had to look at several videos for complete instruction because instruction manuals leave a lot to be desired these days and in fact, they advise you to look at the instructional videos to learn how to completely operate your machine.

The boys and I did not go to the coast today because the weather WAS nasty but I picked them up and we went to the Lighthouse Home For Bad Girls Who Get Saved By Jesus because they just did not get enough toys for Christmas. I got them both a toy and also a Curious George jack-in-the-box to keep here for the little ones because who wouldn't want a Curious George jack-in-the-box? It plays the same thing that my old jack-in-the-box played, which was Pop Goes The Weasel but when George pops up, it does not make that horrible sound that scares little children to death and is probably the reason that most of us are terrified by clowns.
Remember this?

Honey, every time that sucker popped up I lost at least three months of my life-span.
It was awesome! And horrible too.

And then we came home to my house and had grilled cheese and tomato soup and to be honest, the boys mostly watched some kids' Netflix stuff, the rain coming down and making the cold outside chilling to the very bone. We did play the matching game but Owen was sleepy although after the game, they asked to play on the swing porch, and I let them, but the next thing I knew they were outside in the rain and I made them come in and they did not really fight it. There were more snacks (apples and pickled okra, Ritz crackers and peanut butter) but I did not let them have any candy as they have OD'ed on it since Christmas. Jason told me that he'd finally thrown the rest of it away.
I wonder if the boys know that?
Hmmm...
Well, they got none here. I was mean MerMer.

And now they are home with their parents and their sister and I am extending the leftover chicken soup into more soup and it's still raining. I hope we can go down to visit the sea creatures tomorrow. I think that Boppy is going to have to stay home and fix the busted water pipe under the garage. I suppose it broke when we had that freeze a few weeks ago which is sort of depressing. It's going to be freezing here again soon and that does not make me happy. It's going to be a REAL freeze. A HARD freeze. And for us, that is just, well, annoying as fuck.

And that's what happened in Lloyd today.
What happened where you live? Is it cold? Is it warm? Is it snowing? Is it balmy?
What are you having/did you have for supper?
I'd like to know.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I had an artichoke with hollandaise sauce. Raining and 48 pretty much the way it is year round. I was so glad to read this post because it kind of looks like Maurice is the other white meat. xxoo

  2. It’s cold. It’s dark. It’s raining. Repeat until June.

Those jack-in-the-Box must have been invented by a lunatic.

You are right about the Jack-in-the-box.

  3. It's frigid at home. I'm in FL right now and it's a tolerable 65. I go home to MN on Sat and the high is -3. I am sad about that.

  4. Green salad with tuna. English muffin cheese toast. Cool for us (low 70s) and rainy. No complaints from me. Soup sounds good. Just got my cuisinart food processor down here a couple of weeks ago after it was in storage for 5 years. Used it to make the pastry crust for an almond pear tart for Christmas day dessert.

  6. It's minus 11 degrees right now and I think the cold water pipe to the bathroom sink is frozen... The state has suspended some kind of rules to allow everyone emergency gas fill ups through this cold snap. No idea what rules... Times like this I wish I had a wood stove but it's also the season for house fires. A bit of anxiety about it all. Looked at tons of photos on my old phone, sorting them for downloading. The summer shots were very happy making. Jack the Buddha cat wanted out so desperately I finally let him, he was not pleased in the end. Am using the mini trampoline for exercise till it warms up again.

    1. Minus 11 is not a temperature. It is a form of torture.
When I lived in Denver I remember looking around and realizing how few trees there were which gave me anxiety- what would we burn for heat if the power all failed? There were no answers. I left.

    1. Do you have an electric blanket? I think I would buy one if I lived in such a cold climate. And then I'd stay under it until spring.

  8. It was cool here today, colder now. I'm in the middle of the west side of Florida. No snow and I had chicken salad today. Have a sweet night.

And it's going to get colder, isn't it?

  9. Leftover coconut lentil soup, full of fresh ginger and tumeric to help with arthritis symptoms, probably from old age, change in weather, too much holiday sugar or combo of all 3. Seems to help, may be placebo effect but tastes good going down. Cleaned house a little bit,washed/changed bed linens and went to grocery store to stock up before the predicted ice and snow get here on Sunday. We don't do ice and snow in the deep south, as you well know, so my happy ass will now be staying home till we thaw out. I had to read your "clown theory" to my husband and we both had a good laugh. Sounds perfectly reasonable to us! I've been thinking of buying my granddaughter one but don't want to scar her, I'll have to keep an eye out for the Curious George one.

    1. Coconut lentil soup sounds delicious! I need to try that. And I bet it IS healing.
Yes. Stay in and stay warm.
And I think they've made all of the jack-in-the-boxes more gentle on their pop-ups. Too many children died of heart attacks with the old ones, I imagine. And August loves this new one.

  10. Sorry, one more thing, I did miss the traditional photo of "the chicken salad". It is always so pretty and makes me smile. I never tire of seeing it (or chickens, or camillas, or cats, or babies.) I am forever in your debt for showing me how to make a chicken salad fancy!

    1. Well, I learned from Glen's mama how to make that fancy chicken salad. It is delicious and pretty, isn't it? Thank you for your sweet words.

  11. Ugh. Time to bring in the plants again! Or are they still in from the last time? YES -- I DO remember that jack-in-the-box!! I had one just like it! Not my favorite toy.

    1. Well, some of the plants are inside and some are still on the porch to be covered during the next freeze. However, with the temperatures predicted (twenties) I am not sure that will be adequate. Damn.

  12. It's a usual Desert Winter here and that always makes me Grateful I don't live anywhere else, especially after looking at the News of extreme weather almost everywhere else. A food processor here would probably be used as a doorstop, I'm always in Awe of Food Gurus such as yourself, my Dad was one and I Miss his home cooked meals so much! I ate leftover take-out Pizza, that about sums it up for my lack of domestic goddess skills. *winks*

    1. Leftover take-out pizza is one of the world's finest foods in my opinion. This new food processor would make an excellent door-stop. It is quite heavy and has rubber feet.

  13. The forecast says it's 7', which is 44.6F, fyi. It feels a lot colder, and yesterday was 3'. Windchill, I guess. THe forecast says moderate breeze, which is bull, it's very loud and blowy. It also says cloudy, but right now th sky is still blue.

I have to walk the dog and go shopping, and I do not want to leave my bed... we still can't have the central heat on in my house, and it's making me very sad right now.

I think dinner will be some form of giant veggie stew with bulgar and beans and what all.

  16. In Tucson, the high will be 80F. There is some wind from the south. We're having a distressing lack of rain, December is supposed to be a wet month. The desert is pretty dry. Dinner will be a veggie pizza - that would be sauteed vegetables on top of a store bought cheese pizza since I am the bringer of death to yeast.

Dinner was 8 of us (the family is rarely all together as we are scattered about across the US) went out for the world's best fish!
