When Did Things Get So Messed Up?

For those of you interested in all-things-birth, go read this article by Christiane Northrup:

She says exactly what I think about birth in America.

  1. I have always loved Christiane Northrup, and what surprises me about this is that we've heard it all before, over and over, yet there is still this craziness about birth in America. Just the other day on LA Moms Blog there was a whole post, written by a woman who had just given birth who was advocating elective c-sections for all. It was just so stupid and ill-informed, and this by a writer, no less (an intelligent breed!). And then all the comments with all the balderash about it being the woman's choice, not to judge how one gives birth, etc. I like it when people speak their mind, clearly, like Northrup, and even better when they back it up with some facts. Thanks for posting, Ms. Moon -- and that photo is divine...

  2. I think its been one of my great comforts to know that my body can nurture, sustain, and give life. What a magical, divine gift. And it's true, everyone treats it as an emergency. Which is so funny to me, because labor can be so long, so slow, so fitful. I'm SO excited to have babies and to tell them the story of their births. I think it'll start with having my Mom paint my toenails.... thanks Ms. Moon. Awesome article.

  3. Elizabeth- You know, I love her too. She has written wisely about menopause. Elective c-sections for all? Oh, yes. Fuck that. These women have no idea what they are missing.

Tiff- Yes. So long, so fitful, so honest, so true.
