Poor Little Darling

Little Dolly is coming along and it is vastly apparent that the good lord did not put me on earth to make dolls. Bless her little heart. I am much better at monkey sock dolls because it's all just so preordained by the socks and I'm not even sure why I decided to try and make this doll but I did and I have to say that I am enjoying myself, even as I laugh at myself. I plan on giving her some bodacious eyebrows because Magnolia already has a pair of those herself. Some of you may remember when Maggie was born and Lily said, "She doesn't have any eyebrows!" and Jason said, "Don't worry. She'll get one."
One of my favorite family stories. And although she has not yet achieved the status of having an eyebrow, she's sure got some good ones.

And she uses them to her beautious advantage.

I have no idea where this day went. I have no idea where this week has gone. It's just been like blink, blink...done. I have been experiencing time going faster now for awhile but the last few months seem to have been oiled with W-D40. I think that today I made a loaf of sourdough and did a load of laundry and swept some floors and cleaned some sinks and went to the garden with Mr. Moon (that sounds sexy, doesn't it?) to try to figure out where to plant all the summer stuff. We're in that time where entire rows need to come out but I'm hanging on to them with my bloody fingernails, even though the plants have bolted and are starting to get bitter. And some things just are NOT ready to come out. The potatoes, of course, which are not ready to dig, and the peas which are just learning to climb a fence, and the kale and chard which look fabulous and the onions and garlic...
Meanwhile, the tomatoes and peppers and basils and eggplants are yammering to get their root-feet into the ground. I went around and pulled the broccoli I've cut, the mustards that have bolted, and an arugula or two which is definitely, without-a-doubt, DONE!
I sobbed.
No, I did not.
Anyway, I did that and then Mr. Moon took over the planting and I did something. I have no idea what. Worked on that poor, wretched doll.
I've finished the Scientology book and am now listening to a Stephen King novel which is not reading like any Stephen King novel I've ever read. It's called Billy Summers and so far, I'm there, I'm hooked.

And here it is Thursday and tomorrow is Friday which is how weeks operate. But seriously? How did this happen?

Oh! Last night we had a power outage that lasted over five hours and our generator finally got a good test run.
It was amazing.
It does not take even a minute after the power goes out for the generator to kick on then...it's like nothing ever happened. We have lights and fans and internet and TV and all of the modern stuff you take for granted until it goes away. And you know what? I felt guilty! Of course I felt guilty. Guilt is my default mode and here we were, living the life, not bumbling about with miner's lights strapped around our heads, lighting candles and wondering how in hell we were going to watch Survivor. Okay. One of us watches Survivor and it's not me. I felt better about it all when Hank reminded me that Mr. Moon had mixed and laid a literal ton of cement to make the pad the generator sits on.
Thank you, O Wise Hank!

And that's the story over here. Pathetic doll-making, audio book listening, gardening, sweeping, wondering where in hell the time goes.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. That is a doll of character! I wonder what Maggie will name her?

  2. I woke up this morning shocked to realize that it is almost April and I haven't done a goddamn thing out in the yard except to pull hay grass out of the yard (a losing battle and exercise in futility though I'm convinced that eventually I'll get the upper hand) and occasional weeds out of the flower beds. I have zinnia seeds to get in fer cryin' out loud.

    1. We haven't even talked about our zinnia seeds this year! And you KNOW how much I love those. Thanks for reminding me.
Don't feel bad about not getting much done outside. Your weather is behind schedule anyway so no problem.

  4. I see that doll with an oversized hat like I've seen on Jessie's boys, with all that hair stuffed in it and it can all fall out when Maggie pulls off the hat.
I hear you on time. I cannot believe we have just about put the first quarter behind us.

    1. Maggie does indeed want a hat for her doll. I might try to knit one.
You're so right about the first quarter of the year just...sliding right by.

  5. I think the doll need just a bit longer bangs.....I'm sure you can do that! It will be unique and something Maggie will love and cherish when it is finished LOL ! Yes the week flies by. OK....our washer blew up last week after 16 years.....new one supposed to come today, but not coming till next week. Dreaded laundromat....plus some *washboard* laundry (as hubby calls it) in the kitchen sink. It works. Electric circuit in our master bath is out..landlord is perplexed (and electricity is his forte).....so ,,,,may be another week for that? However....washing laundry by hand, and having no bathroom light is NOT a huge problem in *light* of what horrors are going on in the world....so I tighten my triceps, wring laundry.....breathe, and feel thankful.

    1. Girl! You have no idea how much time I spent trying to give that dolly longer bangs. Somehow, the way I'm stitching the yarn in is not working for bangs. This is definitely a prototype.
Your washer blew up?! What? But you're right. It's hard to complain about first world problems right now. Washing machines and bathroom lights are important but not life and death. May all be restored and delivered soon.

  6. I am LOVING the doll that you are creating! She is awesome! Ms. Eye brow Maggy might not love her as much as I do, In which case if Maggie wants to give her up for adoption I am the ONE!!Who know, when Maggie is older she may appreciate the art of it. Spring time is being weird here- the plants are all confused and out of sinc.

    1. With my needlework, it is generally the thought that counts! But if Maggie takes one look at her and throws her on the ground, I'll gather her up and send her to you.
Our spring is seemingly going along as it should. It sure is nice.

  7. I don't think that doll is at all wretched, and Maggie will love her! I bought some sour dough sandwich bread and have been disappointed. It has no taste...

    1. Oh no! What is sourdough without taste? A lie! That's what it is. A bold lie!

  9. The doll is coming along nicely, she just needs a mouth to be able to tell you what clothes she would like. Maggie's eyebrows are very nice and her hair is so very fabulous! I rearranged a few bits in my garden today, things getting sunburnt on the porch are now down under the trees, it makes my tiny porch look at least a teeny bit bigger.

    1. Oh, Maggie has already given me instructions on not only what the clothes should be, but also what the mouth should look like.
Plants are so picky when it comes to light, aren't they? There can be a delicate balance between not enough and too much. Hard to find that sweet spot sometimes.

  10. My first thought about the doll was that I would not want to meet her in a dark alleyway!! Haha. (I am sure that Maggie will love her)

  11. Survivor?! Is that still on?

I love that story about Jason and the eyebrow(s).

When it comes to the doll, I imagine that clothing will cover a multitude of sins -- as it does for all of us!

    1. Survivor is still on, man! And Jeff Probst hasn't aged a damn year.
So. You're saying the doll's body hasn't got a lot to say for itself?
      You are right! Haha!

  13. You will make that doll fabulous. You will finish her off with sweet clothes and Maggie will smother her with hugs. Some day that doll will be on Antique Roadshow as a treasured heirloom!
    Happy Friday!

  15. Reggae/Rasta comes to mind when I look at that doll, and bell-bottoms and tie-dye and one of those crocheted round hats. S(he)'s going to be one of a kind! As for Maggie .. can she get any more gorgeous?!

    1. Yep. She's definitely got the Rasta hair going on. I'm afraid she's going to be wearing a pretty simple dress, though instead of such a fancy fitting outfit. Perhaps I could make the hat, though.
Maggie is sort of a doll herself, isn't she?

  16. That doll is destined to be a family heirloom. Do you have some blush to give her some rosy cheeks?

Tell me, sweeties. Tell me what you think.
