Well, my friends, today we bought a dock.
And a log cabin came with it!
As Jesus said, "It is done."
He may or may not have said It's a Wonderful Life but I suppose it's possible. That was a picture I took today from the Goodwill art bin when we were doing a little post-dock buying celebration.
Perfect, right?
I did not buy Jesus. I feel certain you are not surprised.

So yes. We drove to the closing at an attorney's office where we realized that today is Take Your Kids To Work Day in Leon County and the bizarre thing about this is that when we went to the closing to sell the Dog Island house, it was also Take Your Kids To Work Day.
Life is not only wonderful (theoretically), it is also serendipitous and full of coincidence.
Our realtor who has been infinitely patient and kind and helpful brought us a little gift basket with householdy things in it which I found to be so heartwarming. My favorite things in the basket are a set of dishtowels. I am a fool for dishtowels.

And the whole thing took about twenty minutes and then we walked out, the owners of a house on a very large lake in Georgia. If you missed the pictures on the realty site before and want to see them, you can find them HERE. Please bear in mind that those pictures were VERY professionally taken. I'm not saying that it's not a lovely house, I'm just saying that things are not always quite as they seem, especially as applies to the kitchen which appears to be about four times bigger in the photos than it is in the realm of reality.
Ah well. There truly is a LOT of wood in the house and I do love wood and the back porch is as charming as it appears and there definitely is new wood on the dock.

I was not exactly oozing with joy and excitement at the closing. Look- I did the best I could and I am here for the ride, here for this next chapter, here for however things unfold. My heart will thaw.
After the signing, we talked about eating lunch but it was a little early so we stopped at a Goodwill. I do believe my husband was trying to charm me. He knows how much I love thrift shopping. And I did find something nice.
No. It's not a pillow. That's a folded up tablecloth, just out of the dryer. The label has been removed but I'm sure it's an April Cornell product which means that it's of good quality and very nice colors. I love it. I can use it here on my table on the back porch and eventually, when we get a table for the cabin, I might take it over there.
It's a start, right?
It's a start, right?
And then we went to the Hospice re-sell store in Moon Plaza where Jessie met up with us and I found a silk scarf that I absolutely had to buy although I have no idea what I'll do with it.
The print is unlike anything I'd usually find attractive but the colors are so deep and intense and that monkey is such a super hero and the crocodile is so sneaky and, well, it demanded to be bought. I also got a 1000 piece jigsaw that could well be the thing I "do" at the cabin for a year. Or more. I'm a very slow jigsawer.
Calming and almost meditative, isn't it?
It could almost be the visual equivalent of smoking meth.
But today wasn't all about buying a dock and a tablecloth and a silk jungle scarf. No! It was also about noodles!
How many times have I eaten lunch out this week? Three you say? You are right! And now I have yet another cuisine's worth of leftovers in the refrigerator. Jessie and I got some sort of dish with sweet potato glass noodles (Japchae?) which was delicious and we had a lot of fun trying to eat the clear noodles which were as stretchy as elastic, with our chopsticks. We managed.

And now, although I probably shouldn't say it, the thing I did today which feels almost the most momentous, was to give the kitchen floor a very good sweeping and then two moppings.
My god, it needed it. So much.
My god, it needed it. So much.
And now my kitchen smells like Fabuloso and white vinegar which is what home and goodness smell like to me and I am happy.
I guess it's been a big day.
And we shall go on from here.
Love...Ms. Moon
Congratulations with your new house! I hope you grow into loving it as much as your hubby! And btw- I’m a sucker for dish towels too.. I have a stack of them that are so pretty I’ve never even used them😂(it’s the beautiful patterns that get me) It’s finally spring here in the mid-Hudson valley, and we’re all loving it! Lots of gardening! Take care… xo, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that spring has finally decided to make its way to you.
DeleteDishtowels are pragmatic items and yet, they can be beautiful, especially if they are made of good quality fabric. Of course, the best ones come from Joanne. https://cuponthebus.blogspot.com/
I'm not sure she's weaving now. I suspect not.
Congratulations on your brand new dock and its most excellent log cabin, Ms. Moon! So many sweet family memories are waiting for you there, I’m sure. Btw - I’m in love with those beautiful old floors in your kitchen! 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you! And by the way- the floors in the kitchen are not that old. They were put in probably less than twenty-five years ago but they are quite aged. I think the pine they're made of is much softer than the heart pine the other floors are made of.
DeleteWhenever I see a Jesus picture in a store or flea market, etc I say "Jesus is here!" And I think I am very funny. Happy cabin day - the porch is lovely.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with a cheery, "Hey there, Jesus!" Could that Jesus be more of a white hippie Jesus? No. No I think not.
DeleteI really REALLY like your dock...oh, and the house that came with it. The views are beautiful. I do like the rustic feel with all the wood. Does that furniture come with it? My only concern (for me) would be breaking my neck getting in/out of that bathtub! I'd have to replace that with a shower.
ReplyDeleteWill you put a garden in at the 'Dock House', too? Oh, I love that painting above your sink of a seashore/sunset? Your kitchen does look Fabuloso! In fact, you got me onto the Fabuloso and I use it all the time in the kitchen and bathrooms. Best Wishes for your new home. You'll be having many wonderful memories transpire there!
Paranormal John
Hello, John! We are definitely replacing that stupid tub/shower. Neither Mr. Moon nor I could safely use that thing. We need a walk in.
DeleteWe're not sure what the sellers left exactly. We'll get over there soon and see. As to a garden- not a food garden, I think. I'm just not sure how much time we'll spend there and a lot of plants are fussy and want to be watered regularly, especially when they are planted. There's not a whole lot growing there now.
Lis gave me that picture of the sunset. We like to say that's the two of us. She got the image from a vintage postcard.
I think that odd tub’s secret is that it has massage jets…. :). In case that makes a difference!
DeleteYou made several spectacular purchases today. The cabin is fabulous and will be ideal when you and Glen add your custom features. Water views are happy views. Fishing and boating adventures will be greatly enjoyed. It looks like the dock has power and that is pretty ideal for charging mechanicals on the boat.
ReplyDeleteHappy times are ahead.
Oh, Susan- I hope so. I really hope so!
DeleteIt sounds as if you're relaxing into the ownership of the new place. Complete with dock. I hope you'll enjoy it a lot.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and feelings about it go up and down constantly. I am trying my hardest to concentrate on the ups.
DeleteI did the snorty laugh over your meth comment. That is one wild puzzle!
ReplyDeleteI love the tablecloth. I have a few from the 50’s although i never use them on a table. It will look right at home in the cabin. Which looks pretty darn nice! When the whole family descends, it’ll all come together.
Debbie's right! I bet when all those kids and grandkids and in-laws and out-laws show up, that house AND dock AND boat will be filled with so much love and laughter, you will love it!
DeleteHeh-heh. Glad I could make you laugh, Debbie. It is a wild puzzle but I really like it.
DeleteI like tablecloths so much. They're one of the main things I look for in thrift stores. They're like clothes for furniture.
The family is pretty excited about the house. It'll give everyone a place to go when they want to get out of Tallahassee.
Ana- I hold that thought close to my heart.
You've got this. I'd be in it for the decorating with the monkey, alligator and bird art part. And all the other decorating stuff.
ReplyDeleteI can see that scarf in a log cabin. Why not? There are no rules. I have a feeling there will be some deer heads on some walls.
DeleteSigh.
I looked at the photos of the cabin and there is carpet in the bathroom! OMG.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure things will get sorted and I hope you enjoy your time there. At least it's easier than a hotel, you'll have your stuff there.
When mum died, I took her dish towels. When I was a kid she used to buy old flour bags and make her own dish towels and they were great.
I'm looking forward to seeing your new kitchen.
That carpet is coming OUT. Of everywhere. Although we may leave it upstairs for now. We're trying to decide what to use as flooring. I believe it's cement under the carpet.
DeleteIf they still sold flour in bags I would buy it, just so I could make things from the fabric.
I'm super smell-sensitive and your house with open windows has to smell amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt is the absolute best when my house is open, both windows and doors. My favorite.
DeleteI'm sure you'll have as much fun decorating your new house as Mr. Moon will have getting it all set up! Congratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how much decorating I'll be doing. We shall see.
DeleteWell how exciting your purchases are Love house scarf and mostly jigsaw. Envy. New phone so seeing if it lets me respond. If so Glorious if not Drat Maggi May UK xxxx
ReplyDeleteHello, Maggi May! It is so good to hear from you! I hope all is well.
DeleteAm delighted phone works. As for all being well been challenging my health is hard work but we have a bungalow now by the sea so that is good. No stairs When you finish that jigsaw you should glue it together and put it on the wall. If you break it up and none of yours want it think of me. I'll pay shipping lol. lovely to be in touch again x xxxx
DeleteJust had a look at your new property. I don't think I saw it before. How often do you think you will go there, and how far away is it? It looks huge!
ReplyDeleteI love that scarf, it could be a curtain for a small window maybe?
Not sure how often we'll go there. Glen's probably going to be spending a LOT of time there. It's about an hour's drive away so not too bad at all.
DeleteIt is large but those pictures, like I said, are deceptive. It's basically only two rooms downstairs when it comes to walls. Well, not including a bathroom.
The scarf would indeed make a nice little curtain.
Congratulations on the house! I hope a good feeling about it soon surprises you. Being on the lake with the “new wood” dock should make your entire family happy. Doing that jigsaw puzzle there for the next three years should make it feel like home. Well that puzzle may actually may make it feel like A home! Great finds, too. Oh, and the floor looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about the jigsaw puzzle. My first purchase should be a table big enough to hold it and the pieces. And a good lamp. Or two. I cannot abide overhead lighting and I'm not sure how we're going to manage to get outlets all throughout the large open spaces.
DeleteSigh.
I always say that mopping the floor is like having clean sheets but just for the feet.
My kitchen needs a good mopping too and let's not mention the rest of my home. I would have bought that Jesus picture just for the frame, then I'd take the picture out and give it to a very religious person I know. I LOVE that jigsaw. I like the lake house, especially the porches, but I'm not a big fan of so much interior wood. The new tablecloth is nice and the scarf which might look nice as a wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteI've fallen way behind on housekeeping chores. I really do not enjoy them. At all. I'd so much rather be outside, pulling weeds.
DeleteI have a lot of picture frames that used to belong to my sister-in-law who died some years ago so I don't have to be on the lookout for those.
I'm glad you like the jigsaw!
Congratulations on your new adventure! Looks like there is plenty there to keep Mr Moon busy, with the lake to chill out on in between. I can already picture the Moon family gathering on that big, screened porch. Is there wood floor under all that rug? I hope so. I'm a big wood floor fan myself and your kitchen floor does look Fabuloso! X0X0 N2
ReplyDeleteNo. There is not wood under that carpet, dammit. Cement, I think. They people who built it decided to go that route. We're trying to figure out what to put down after we take up the carpet. I love wood floors too and I know that laying them on cement IS possible but not always practical. Besides, we don't want too many different types of wood, I guess.
DeleteI will add my congrats to everyone here. I looked at the house again and like it even more this time. I think when you get everything in and everyone and settled you will be very happy. I think you will have great cookouts there. And the porch will be perfect. And the yard. And the dock. And the rooms. It's all good. And you can sing Georgia on My Mind like WiIllie and Ray. THAT'S the most special part. Complete with rocking to the rhythm like Ray and closing your eyes and nodding your head like Willie. OK. Now I need to YouTube it.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Patricia
Did you know I kissed Ray Charles once? Pretty cool, huh?
DeleteI believe that cookouts at the lake will be a fine thing.
YOU KISSED RAY CHARLES??? ON THE LIPS????? was hugging also involved? OK. I'm overboard with the personal info....but...I'm so jelly.
DeletePatricia.
Well, congratulations on the house! I know it's exciting for Mr. Moon and maybe you will find it exciting as well. May it be so. If nothing else you have more space to put more STUFF! I love the new scarf and the tablecloth, but yeah, that puzzle is a little intense for me. :)
ReplyDeleteMore stuff. Just what I need.
DeleteNot.
Oh well. I need to change my attitude.
The puzzle is a little busy, isn't it? But I sort of love all the tiny details.
Congratulations on the purchase of the house. How wonderful to be so close to the water. It just needs some Mrs Moon magic to make it home.Wendy SA
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet, Wendy. It really is. Thank you.
DeleteCongrats? I looked at the pictures before and again just now. first thing I'd be doing is putting up sheetrock over all that wood. Well, maybe not all of it. I think you'll get into it, the thrift shopping and furnishing. Doesn't have to be done all at once, a little here and there. And spending lots of time on the back porch.
ReplyDeleteSheet rock? In this you and I diverge in taste. To me, all the wood is a definite plus. Plus, I'll feel less need to hang stuff on the walls. Rugs instead? Adjustments will be made.
DeleteThe back porch is the best part, isn't it?
Congratulations on all your very fine purchases today and on that spanking clean floor. What lovely light comes through your kitchen door. I do agree that when the whole family’s at the lake house together, it’s going to be a fine time indeed. Life is not static, that’s for sure! This is a good thing, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe light just shines right on in at the very tail end of the day. That's when I see all the smudges on the refrigerator and grime on the kitchen island and...
DeleteWell, you know.
You're right- life is not static, no matter how much more comfortable I am if it is.
"Perfect for large gatherings" it says - this will be great for your gang, Mary.
ReplyDeleteIn all, there are fifteen of us in the immediate family. That's a lot! I'm not sure how we'd sleep that many at once. We are a super large gathering!
DeleteGrandkids in sleeping bags on the porch?
DeleteThis is the sort of cabin that gives kids memories that nourish them for a lifetime…
Congratulations to dock and house! That jigsaw puzzle reminds me of the little pigs books we had way back but it doesn't quite match the story I remember.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the Little Pigs puzzle but that story is the basis for it although the artist played freely with the "facts." But all of the elements of The Three Little Pigs are right there in the puzzle. Plus a lot more.
Delete“ I do believe my husband was trying to charm me. “
