A Rather Stressful Day

That picture was from last night when I took it to send to August. He made that axe for for his Boppy before they left for North Carolina and gave it to me to keep until Father's Day to give to him. It truly is a thing of beauty and he did it all by himself. See the little notches in the blade? Nice touch, right? He even taped a toothpick onto the back to stabilize the blade. He's such an engineer already.

It has been a DAY!
I woke up knowing I had a dental appointment to get my teeth cleaned today at 11:00 which is nothing, of course, unless you have illness anxiety disorder which of course I do. So I was very anxious and then boom! Another one of those fast, lethal little storms hit us. Next thing I knew I was getting texts from Lily saying that when she and Lauren were on their way to pick up the kids from Jason's to go visit Lauren's parents near Ocala, a tree fell behind them and a tree fell in front of them- both on the road I generally take to get to town. Hank texted that their power was out and so was the power of a whole bunch of other people in town. So I called and canceled my appointment via voicemail and then they texted me back to say that THEIR power was out but they'd get in touch when it came back on to reschedule which they did and wouldn't you know it? They had an opening at four, could I make that?

Well. Shit. Damn. Hell.
Yes.

So then I had to get all worked up and anxious again and when I got there, my regular dental hygienist wasn't there but a young child named Mattie did the honors and she was great! Turns out my regular lady has moved to another office but I'll be pleased to have Mattie take over. Then my dentist came in to check my overall dental health and all is well except that I am going to need a crown on a cracked tooth which I already knew. I had one repaired some months ago and I let the new guy do it and honestly, I did not enjoy that experience in the least. It felt like he completely forgot I was a human being and that he had a task to do and he did it and if there was a woman attached to that tooth and those gums, well...that wasn't his worry.

So I asked my old dentist today how long he was planning on still working because he's been threatening to retire for a long time. He said that he wasn't sure but probably at least until the holidays.
WHAT?
Damn. I better get that crown before he leaves. He's been my dentist for so long and he has done very kind things for me, like meeting me at the office after hours when I needed a crown reattached, and he always reaches out to grab my hand both before and after his exam which is so simple but so meaningful.

He does not forget I'm a human.

Okay, okay. Enough of that.

Mr. Moon's been over at Tom's helping him clear his driveway of downed trees all day and I know he's going to be exhausted when he gets home. Lily and Lauren and the kids made it safely to Ocala and I know they're going to have an awesome time. As I have said before, Lauren's parents have the coolest place in the world for kids to visit. Not only do they have many, many animals from goats to chickens to dogs, they have a pool, a hot tub, a river to fish in, refrigerators full of things kids love... and it goes on. Their goat barn has a TV in it for the goat's entertainment pleasure! I am looking forward to their trip report.

And you know I'm missing my Weatherfords so I'll give you a picture that Jessie sent. She took it before they all got strep again.

She said she had to make them kiss her but so what? They did it!
And here's another picture of the mama bear and one of her cubs that she keeps encountering.

Florida is not the only wild place, is it?

I guess I'll go rustle us up some supper. I picked the garden again today so green beans will be involved.
And you will be so happy to know that I gave a good amount away to two neighbors yesterday. I still have about fifty pounds of them between what's in my refrigerator and on the counter.
Ooh boy.

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. Yes. As they say around here- if you don't like the weather, just wait for five minutes. It'll change. That's hyperbole but not vastly.
Mama and baby are very cute but Mama would rip your guts out if she thought you were threatening her child.

  2. Fresh green beans from a neighbor is like manna from heaven! I have no such neighbor and the beans at the store end up tough! Ugh!!

  3. I wrote a long sympathetic comment. Blogger shut down. It's lost. Then I started to replace it . Blogger shut down. Again. Sorry, I'm done!

  4. I'll bet Boppy took that new ax with him to clear Mark's yard and it is working well. Hope the weird storms cease soon.

  5. What a DAY! We've been reading about your storms. Rain is good, trees falling all over is not.

Glad your dental appointment is behind you after all that, with no unexpected bad news.

That mama bear and cubs are almost as cute as Jessie and forced-to-kiss boys :-)

    1. I swear- there are trees down everywhere around here and in Tallahassee. Crews are working like crazy to clear them. It's like after a hurricane.
Isn't that a darling picture of Jessie and her boys?

  7. When I first moved to Geneva my then-young dentist was very good, but as time went by and I sensed he wanted to retire, frankly he would have made a good butcher. His office was taken over by a young lady dentist and it was night and day (thank God)!

    1. This is like the opposite of what's happening at my dentist's office!

  8. I have a cracked tooth too that they keep reminding me of every time I go in to get my teeth cleaned but it doesn't bother me in the least so I'm content to let it be (more of our parallel lives). Not interested in damaging storms but we sure could use some rain.

    1. Yeah. My cracked tooth doesn't bother me either but I have now been warned not to chew ice or hard candy. I will not!
I sure hope you get some rain soon, Ellen.

  9. Glad you got your dental visit over with! Now get that crown scheduled...
Stay safe from the storms but you could send some rain up here! :)

    1. We haven't gotten any rain today and I'm already missing it. It's TOO hot! But not too sad about not getting that wind.

  10. I'm so glad there are still wild animals roaming around out there. Love the pic of Jessie and the boys!

My dentist keeps telling me I have to do something about two of my teeth -- a dark one in the front on the bottom (which she says needs a root canal) and the one I had a root canal on several years ago, which still gives me twinges because apparently the previous dentist didn't get all the root. I'm against doing anything until I have to, though. I just keep telling her, "Not this time!" They're not really hurting me so what's the rush?

    1. Well, I really know nothing about dentistry but I think I'd be worried about a tooth getting dark. But I hear you. Now if we were all really smart, we'd start putting away a little money every month so that when we HAVE to get these teeth attended to, it wouldn't break the bank for us.
Yeah. We're not going to do that, are we?

  11. I wonder what goats watch on Goat TV? Probably endless repeats of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff". Take that you damnable troll!

    1. I know I asked Lily what the goats watch last time they were there but I can't remember what she told me. The news? Maybe.

  12. So glad storms were weathered safely by all....... (is that an unintentional pun?) August may follow in his Dad's engineering footsteps.....he already is! the bears....oh my. I know they abound there where Virgils family lives. And that pic of Jessie and her boys.....be still my heart! On with your beans......maybe Mr No Man Lord would like some? I'm sure you've thought of that....... he would probably welcome them.

    1. Harvey (NML) has no electricity and no stove so he'd have to cook the beans over a fire which sounds like hell right now. I should give him a jar of pickled beans.
Yep. I think August is already showing a lot of signs of having that engineering brain.

  13. Jessie has the most Beautiful Smile and what a precious photo of the Boys kissing her, even if she had to make them do it. *LOL* I don't think anyone likes going to the Dentist, even for routine stuff like Cleanings.
