Departure Eve

We are getting there! I feel quite proud that I've got all of my clothes in that one suitcase in the front except for a few things in that leather bag behind it. The other suitcase is Mr. Moon's.
I've packed my medications, our supplements, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, a little bit of jewelry, hair stuff, toothbrush, etc. I've got a bedside fan in a bag where my laptop, chargers, and pillows will also go.
Whither I go, there go my pillows, too.

Now. When it comes to kitchen stuff- oh god, y'all. I've got everything from olive oil and vinegar to a bag of all-purpose flour and one of cornmeal. Plus a ton of other stuff. Seriously. I'm ridiculous. We're taking a huge bag of unshelled field peas that Mr. Moon picked this morning. Also, a bag of green beans that I picked this morning. The hen house has fresh hay. Before I leave I need to water my plants, pack my books, and probably some for the kids. Also the puzzle I got them and a deck of kids' rummy cards.
And more and more and more. But my husband has reassured me that if we need to take a trailer to get it all there, we will take a trailer. He is very sweet. He's been plotting us out a route that will carry us on back roads through many cool places. As I may have mentioned before, I was born with absolutely no sense of direction and no navigational skills either so he is actually writing down directions on a legal pad. He knows me well.

I have written Mark about a dozen pages of instructions and I hope he can read my handwriting. I haven't written anything by hand in forever.

I am not freaking out but probably will be tomorrow. I don't want to feel pressured to leave at any specific time but I'd also like to get on the road before noon.

I will be posting some, I am sure, but if I feel like skipping a day here and there I will. Don't worry. I don't plan on dying.

Well, I better get in there and make our last supper in Lloyd for a week. I know that I am going to miss my home, my trees, my chickens, my cats (sort of), and my garden. But I know that it will be absolutely wonderful to step away for a week, enjoy time with my husband, my daughter Jessie, and her family. Glen and I are good travel companions when I'm not being an anxious mess and we laugh A LOT! We shall have adventures! See new things, drive on roads unknown to us, stop when we want, relive old memories, make new ones.

That's the plan, anyway.

Love...Ms. Moon

  3. The preparing to leave is so much harder than actually being on the road. Well done on the field pea and green bean picking and the hen house cleaning. Three more fretful things checked off the list.

Safe travels and have fun! What a Weatherford welcome will be waiting at the other end!

  7. Safe travels to you and Glen. I envy your love of reading aloud. I did it when my daughter was small but my husband is a poor reader and he would like me to read news articles and such. I am a poor wife, I guess. Have a wonderful time!

    On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again
And I can't wait to get on the road again

    Safe travels Ms Moon!

  16. What a fun adventure. Marc and I always travel on back roads too. And we are good vacation partners even if we are not getting along at home. Though I have to say our last vacation when we went to Hawaii with the twins was very stressful for me because I planned stuff for every day and his idea of a vacation is read, eat, sleep, hang out at the hotel or in the room.

One time when we took the kids to Cozumel, they were young, not teens yet, we packed a lot of food for them, typical American kid food, because where we were staying had a kitchen and we at the airport when we hit the button we got red so they waved us over for a cursory look through our baggage and of course he opened the one with all the food. It was kind of embarrassing. I wonder what he thought about the gringos bringing so much food as if what we would get there was inedible. But it was for the kids. We love Mexican cuisine.

  17. Enjoy your trip. I miss the ones my husband and I used to take off the major routes. He loved planning the routes and reading maps. I was never as good at reading maps, especially when he asked me to when we encountered unexpected situations on the road. We expected many more trips in our later years but his health issues precluded our taking those travels. At least I have the memories of the ones we had.

  18. I thought about you driving through the mountains. Hope you missed any rain squalls!

  19. I had to laugh at you packing the olive oil (like, they don't have shops where you're going?), but I realize my neighbour always used to do that too. They come from the west coast of France and she virtually packed the entire kitchen when they went there. Still, it made sense really because as soon as tourist season arrived all the prices went up! Have a lovely time!
