Well. That Was Something

I spent seven hours today listening to the Michael Cohen testimony in front of the House Oversight Committee. I did everything today with my earphones in, listening via my local NPR station on my phone.
Wow.
I'm not going to recap anything because there are at least a million news outlets that are doing it better than I could but it's so telling to me that not one Republican asked him a damn thing about Trump but instead just kept trying to attack Cohen's credibility by reminding him that he lied when testifying before the Congress previously which he did not deny for a second.
Basically he just kept saying, "Yes, I lied and I'm going to prison for three years because of it."
What I want to know is, if he's the pathological liar they claim he is (and he may well be) then why do they believe what he said when he was defending Trump?
But I digress.
I thought that Representative Elijah Cummings who is head of the Oversight Committee did a fantastic job of keeping things going smoothly and making sure that the whole thing was conducted properly and his summation at the end almost brought me to tears.
Of course everything Cohen said about his former boss was exactly what we've always known about Trump. That he's a liar, a conman, a cheat, a racist, etc. Also that he has a huge ego, it's all about winning at any cost, and his kids (with the exception of Tiffany and Barron) are also guilty of criminal behavior.
And so much more.
Well, it's a start. And I have to tell you that I was absolutely intent on hearing it all. This is history happening. And of course Trump's supporters are going to completely disregard anything that Cohen said today and even if they don't, it won't matter to them. As Cohen said today, Trump was absolutely correct when he claimed that he could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and get away with it.

Those are the pretty little flowers I picked on my walk today. The flowers at the top all came from my yard. It's always crazy-good when the camellias and azaleas are blooming at the same time. The wisteria will be coming along soon. I've already seen some blooming in other places nearby. And the wild azalea is blooming in the woods and I always feel blessed when I see those pink blossoms peeking out from behind the forest trees.

These are the good things. Also, this.

Magnolia in her mother's work-out pants.

And August newly relieved of his cast.

Yay, arm!
Jessie wrote last night that she'd asked August what his favorite part of the day had been.
"Seeing Maggie," he said. She asked him what he liked about seeing Maggie and he smiled and giggled and said, "She's sweet."
He also said that when he's older he's going to marry me and Boppy.
Oh, how I love three-year olds. They are just starting to figure it all out and their hearts are so precious.

What a day. I better go shut up the chickens. Only about half of them are sleeping in the hen house these days. The rest are sleeping on the roof of it or in trees. Miss Viv has now disappeared too. I keep thinking that both she and Vera are sitting on eggs somewhere but if they are I have seen no sign of them and even brooding hens get off the nest for a few minutes every day to eat and drink some water and maybe take a little dirt bath. I feel like my little chicken world is all upset right now due to having all of these roosters. We have GOT to do something about that and I still don't really know what or how. Have you ever tried to catch a chicken? Plus, we can't even corral them in the coop because they don't go in there.
Oh, Lord.

Let's all hang in there, people. Justice may be served eventually. Meanwhile, our so-called president is finally in Viet Nam, bone spurs and all, meeting with one of his bromances and god only knows how he'll fuck that shit up.
I can only say that I hope justice comes before the fucker manages to start WW III and that when it does come (justice, not the war), there will be some nice tight handcuffs served on the side.
A girl can dream, right?

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I watched the whole thing, too. I don't believe one Republican asked a proper question! It was one monologue after another, calling him a liar. Sure, he lied....at the request of the crookedest man who ever lived. And I'm from Illinois, Land of Corruptness!
But then I looked at those grandbabies of yours, and my heart fluttered. Such perfection in a world full of bullshit!

    1. Yes. Exactly. He lied for Trump. Of course no one made him lie and obviously, he's not a very trustworthy person. But the most telling point for me is that he knew good and damn well that if he lied under oath this time he would end up with more jail time. And I don't think he hates Trump enough for that.
My grands made my heart flutter too.

  2. I hope you are right about justice coming...is there any of your coconut pie left? I dreamed about that last night.

    1. Yes. Glen is savoring it. I think he's only eating supper these days in order to get to the dessert portion of the evening.

  3. What August said about Maggie is so adorable. And I listened to the whole Cohen hearing too. I found him very credible, like a man seeking redemption. I think he might be the only non sociopath in the entire bunch! And yes, Elijah Cummings wrap up brought tears to my eyes too. Let’s hope this all goes somewhere.

    1. I KNEW you would be listening. And I also knew that you'd feel the same way I did about Elijah Cummings.
      And I was right.

  4. I kept checking in on the headlines throughout the hearing since I was at work. We're living through crazy times. I'm ready to see this whole Trump nightmare come to an end.

All of your flowers are gorgeous!!

    1. I'm not sure the Trump nightmare will ever truly end but I know what you mean. Kick the fucker out of the WH! And put him in the jail house.

  5. August looks pretty happy to have his cast off, made me smile too. And of course the flowers are beautiful.

Perhaps the roosters will be eaten by something, kill two birds with one stone sort of thing:)

Peace talks broke down and poor Mr. tRump now has to fly back home and deal with reality. That makes me smile too.

    1. It's so funny. August is so nonplussed about things that having the cast on didn't slow him down and now that it's off he's just taken that in stride too. He's a cool little dude.
Don't hate me but I have already been hoping that something would snatch those roosters. You know I'll never be that lucky.
Have you heard the joke going around about how Trump's now a war hero? He went to Viet Nam and got shot down.

  6. First of all I want a piece of yesterday's pie. You out did yourself Mary, that looks wonderful.
Catching chickens: My grandmother taught me to use a coat hanger. First make a somewhat straight wire out of it. Then make a hook in one end. Where the hook is bent together should make a space about the size of a chicken's leg, then open into a wider opening. Attach that to a broom stick or a piece of quarter round molding. Seems we always had a chunk of quarter round molding on the farm someplace. The chicken will be focused on you and not the hook and stick. Keep it close to the ground. Don't wave it around in the air. Simply wiping the hook close to the ground will cause it to come up against the chicken's leg and the chicken's foot will get caught in the crook.
They object loudly but it doesn't hurt them. You can fetch a single chicken out of a flock using that tool. My grandmother raised chickens in Payette Idaho for many years. She stocked the hotels there. And she taught us kids on the farm how to do it.

    1. Tom! You're brilliant! Or your grandma was. But you remember! I'm going to give these instructions to Mr. Moon and he will make us a rooster snatcher.
      THANK YOU!

  7. I didn't watch/listen but have read several news articles about it. and Trump who disbelieves his own intelligence agencies had a Russian advisor there at his summit. but hey, the Republicans don't give a shit that he is selling this country down the river as long as they get a big cut and they act like kindergarteners while doing it. what was with the poster 'liar liar' and the token black person?

    pie? there was pie?

    1. The Repubs kept bitching about how this was all just "theater" but they're the ones who made it that way. Stupid shits.
      YES! PIE!

  8. A girl can dream right - yes - but a girl can also dream left which is much better. It seems that the rich and powerful possess invisible deflecting shields that repel the piercing spotlight of justice. It was indeed good to see that cowardly Trump finally made it to Vietnam. Funny how those bone spurs were only ever a problem when he was called up to serve his country - albeit in an absurd and wrongful conflict.

    1. You are exactly correct, Mr. P. Whether we are speaking of the rich and powerful of Great Britain or of the US or, well, anywhere, they do have justice-deflecting shields.
Bone spurs. What a fucking joke.
Sorry for all the cusses. I don't seem to have a filter tonight.

  9. And he HAS fucked it up, as I'm sure you've seen. The most frustrating thing about all this Trump investigation and revelation is that no matter what is said, no matter what is proven -- short of outright collusion with Vladimir Putin -- the Republicans will do nothing. We have sunken to such a low level that there are no standards of decency in government. There's only party loyalty.

    1. That's it exactly, Steve. No standards of decency. Only party loyalty. I mean, there was no logic to the strategy that the Republicans were using whatsoever.

  10. Mr. Cummings made it worth the watch, Jim Jordan is a
political terrorist" , as John Boehner said that one time when he had a clear moment. Kim is not a Republican, he can see that trust is not a thing with the orange one. Got to hand it to the little round guy, he is not as stupid as a republican, as cruel, mind you, but not stupid. Your flowers are so welcome!! Still winter here. The children...OMG, funny, bright- a reason to get up in the morning! I do believe that EVERYONE wants to marry Mer and Boppy.

    1. First off I'll say that if we were polygamists, there would be no shortage of women available and willing to marry us. Not sure we'd get many men. But that would be polyandry, anyway.
"...as John Boehner said that one time when he had a clear moment..."
      Love it!
Kim has the world by the balls. He really does and he is a horrible, horrible man.

  11. I want to marry Mer and Boppy too. I agree with Steve, if the republicans had souls, I’d say they sold them to the devil. Dreaming here too.

  12. Cohen seemed to me like a man seeking to redeem himself for his family. He struck me as the only non-sociopath in the whole sorry mess of Trumpians. That Jim Jordan fella ranted and raved and said nothing. AOC was a star. And Elijah Cummings’ wrap up moved me to tears.
