Sundays Can Be Like That

I am trying two different ways to upload a video of the cherry tree getting sawed into boards. It is such an amazing thing to me that we were able to cut down a tree that was on the fast track to death and turn it into beautiful wood that beautiful things can be made of. And when I say "we" of course I mean Glen.

So the tree was cut and then sawed and then the wood was cured (dried?) for well over a year out in the old barn. This process is not an immediate solution for your furniture-making needs.

That's what the boards looked like when they went into the barn.

And today I folded a very small load of laundry which I honestly only washed because I wanted to use my new table.

Suddenly, my folding game has improved 100%!
I told Mr. Moon that I was going to wear the finish off of the table because every time I pass it on my way from one end of the house to the other, I have to stop and caress the smooth, silky surface. He assured me that I would not.
Golly. I'm still boggling at it.

Before someone around here took me in hand and lovingly helped me get a few ya-ya's out this afternoon, I was in a foul Sunday mood for sure. And my back ached and my hips ached and that did not help. This was all probably a result of the weeding I did yesterday in the garden bed beside the kitchen.

There's the cherry stump from whence came my table, by the way.
That little patch of growing stuff is just a hot mess. There are a few roses in it and also pine cone lilies and some turmeric  and the bananas and a ton of volunteer tomatoes from when I used to throw my kitchen scraps out there for the chickens. and also a pepper or two, and a tiny mystery citrus tree that could be a lemon, a lime, an orange, a grapefruit, or a tangerine. Who knows? Not me.
So I had to get all up in that space with my bulky, non-graceful self, getting pricked by rose thorns and stung by ants, pulling crab grass and border grass and chenille plant and Virginia creeper and other assorted unidentified crap. I should mulch it because it looks pretty sad the way it is now. But to me, it does look better with the weeds mostly cleared out.

Here's one thing I did today.

Those of you who know me well are aware of the fact that I make these cookies when Mr. Moon is going out of town on some manly adventure. I call them the These Will Sustain Life cookies. And they would for quite a while along with water.
Or a cold glass of milk.
Oatmeal, raisin, pecan, chocolate chip.
Glen is leaving for Alabama tomorrow morning to go bass fishing. A cabin is involved as are several buddies.
I also roasted peanuts for him which are southern health food. Good road snack except for the fact that you have to vacuum the car when you've finished eating them all.

So that's been about it for me today. I watered the porch plants and part of the garden. The crowder peas I planted last week are starting to break ground. At least a few of them are. This is heartening. Mr. Moon just told me that I'll be picking green beans before he gets back but I doubt that. They are blossoming beautifully and growing like Jack's magic beanstalk. That's Jack of the fairy tale, not Jack of this picture.

He is keeping careful watch over the back yard, making sure that no cats that he does not approve of (which would be all cats on earth except for him) try to enter via the former dog door, now cat door.

I think I figured out the video. Whoo-hoo! and so forth. However, I can now not format all my text because Blogger is like that sometimes and also, I've done one technical thing today and obviously, I am not capable of doing another.

That's it from Lloyd.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. That table is indeed a thing of beauty and will be passed down from generation to generation.
Jack is very like my Max. I had not seen the resemblance until now. I hear you on the aching bits. When did we get old?

    1. I have no idea when we got old but by god and by glory, here we are.
I hope your Max is as nice as Jack is. Well, he's mostly nice unless he's trying to beat up Maurice.

  2. That table is way to beautiful for a folding table. You should occasionally dine in your laundry room.

  3. First the awful: blessouruhearts no longer comes up in my blog feed. I haven't figured out why-yet! I hope I get it soon.
The video of the cherry tree is nice, and the picture of the table in use is perfect! Wait till you fold a sheet on the table. Luxury.

    1. I was just thinking that about the sheets. And I have towels in the wash now and will be able to fold them on a surface. It's a whole new world! Perhaps not earth-shaking but very sweet.

  4. That table, I want a table like that, although it wouldn't fit in my laundry room/bathroom.
We've had a shitty day too. We visited my father in law this morning and he looked like he was at death's door, my mother in law didn't bother letting us know. And we thought Jack was coming home tonight but his aunt and grandma have other ideas which they don't share with us very well. A lot of stress and I want to punch someone in the throat. So much for letting go my anger:)

    1. Your MIL is a piece of work. Has she always been a narcissistic bitch? Sorry if that offended you but I sort of think it won't. I'm so sorry. And also I'm sorry that Jack's mother's side of the family is so unhelpful. I do not blame you for wanting to punch someone in the throat.

    2. I was not at all offended and yes, you hit the nail on the head.

  6. That wood is beautiful. So glad you managed to save it. And I can't imagine being able to grow turmeric outside. Lucky you (well, until the summer heat hits, I guess)!

    1. There are an awful lot of things we can grow outside here. Some are great, and some are definitely not. And the heat is coming upon us. Ugh.

  7. That table is still a marvel to me. I have a table (the dining room table we used when I was growing up) that my dad "made" out of a surplus government desk top and some legs from a hardware store, and I treasure it. (It looks much nicer than you'd guess from my description.) But even that's not like having a table from wood grown in your own yard!

It's interesting seeing that video, how that machine maneuvers that huge log.

I think your mulch idea is an excellent one. We should do the same with the flower bed in the middle of our garden. We never mulch it and it's weed-o-rama.

    1. Well, I imagine that the table your dad made (and he did make it) is a very fine table and of course you cherish it.
That is a pretty big log, isn't it?
Steve, I haven't even gotten the garden mulched yet. Mr. Moon did set some bags of leaves in there for me to use but I know I need a lot more and it's just not a pleasant job but I should get on it and soon.

  8. Woman, you made me laugh with that picture of your folding table because, of course, the first thing you did was cover half of it with plants.

I got all my weeding done, a miracle in and of itself and no doubt thanks to the cool April we had. now I need to buy a lot of mulch and spread it out before they get all weedy again.

    1. Of course! In fact the VERY first thing I did was to go out to the front porch and bring in a monstera that is potted from that monstera I got at the dump and set it right in front of the window. Plants are important.
I have not gotten my weeding done in the garden by any stretch of the imagination and see my response to Steve above about mulching.
      Sigh.

  10. Table is art! laundry room- I dunno, in the foyer , probably , to greet the fancy folks that come for tea. what a gem that table is! Your laundry room is gorgeous.

    1. Dang. I don't have a foyer. Not fancy people coming for tea. More people will see the table in the laundry room than they would in any other room except the kitchen and that room is filled UP!

  11. Mary, I love you always. I hope you know that. Even when I don't check on the Moon family, I think about you frequently when I am with my chosen family who love and support me, even in my weirdness. Or as Robin Williams says to dear Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, " whoever we invite into our weird little worlds." Much love forever. Beth

  12. Well this post never appeared on my feed till just now. Anyway now I know what's up with Mr moon's trip, and the beans, both of which had puzzled me since I hadn't seen in here then.
