I took this picture by accident and it's the only picture I took today so there you go. As you can see, I was in Costco. I did not have a very long grocery list today but as I said to Jessie in a text, "I need what I need," and I did so I went ahead and shopped. Tomorrow I'll be in town again because I am going to go with Jessie when she takes the boys to the doctor for their next year school exams. I think that's why we're going. Whatever. I'm going to go so I can help wrangle and corral those two wild cowboys of hers.
They're not really that wild but two boys getting exams at one go can require extra help.
AND...
We're going out to lunch before the appointment! We're going to El Patron where we haven't been for over a year and we'll sit on the deck and eat chips and salsa and be reminded of what life used to be like. I'm sure they've missed us.
So that is going to be hugely exciting.

My goal today was to get the shopping done early and come home and sew. Haha! I didn't get the shopping done THAT early and when I came home I realized that if I wanted more mulberries, I was going to have to pick them. So after I put away the groceries and ate my lunch I went out and picked for quite awhile. By the time I'd finished it was four o'clock and that was too late to start jam so I got a little bit done on my dress but not much. I got stuck making pockets. The pattern calls for pockets on the front of the dress but I want to make side-seam pockets. Big ones. So I used another dresses' pockets as a pattern and I know damn well how to make this work but I have never had any spatial ability and it's getting worse all the time and I just didn't have the patience to sit there and figure it all out. I know I can do it and I will but I finally just turned off the machine's light and made a cup of coffee.

Our weather here has been, if not abysmal, then at least a little miserable. The air is as full of water as if it were pouring rain but it's not pouring rain. We're just getting a little drizzle now and then. Yesterday I woke up and the ribs that I broke last July were aching. I've felt them a bit now and then before it rained since they've healed but this was significantly worse. I texted May to ask if her leg hurt. She broke it badly in high school when she was hit by a car (yes- a mother's worst nightmare, god almighty, I can't stand to think about that day) and she said that yes, it was. We discussed the fact that we should get barometers to see if there's a definite correlation between atmospheric pressure and pain from former fractures.
Do any of y'all have thoughts on this? Experiences?
The only other bone I've ever broken was a wrist and it hurts or bothers me, at least, all the damn time so I can't really use that to judge the effect of the weather on it.

So. I do believe that Miss Dotty is sitting on a nest now too. At least she was sitting on one when I went to gather eggs and when I reached out to stroke her, she appeared to be in that broody near-coma. Darla's egg count is up to about thirteen now and that is enough for one hen.
Listen to me- like I know how many eggs a hen should be allowed to sit on. If there's one thing I've learned about chickens, it's that the less I interfere with them, the better off they are. But dammit! Humans just do like to think we know how shit should be done, don't we?
Since we can no longer define humans as "the toolmakers" due to the fact that we are definitely not the only ones to make and use tools, perhaps we should just call ourselves "the opinionated ones."
But then again, cats are about the most opinionated creatures on earth as far as I can see so that probably wouldn't work either. Or perhaps they are simply judgmental which Jessie tells me I am and I always say, "No I'm not. I'm just opinionated."

She's probably right but then again, that's just her opinion.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I get headaches when the weather changes. Starts in the sinuses and if I am lucky, ends with a three-day migraine. Guess I should get a wall barometer and keep track, but I am too old and lazy and I like to whine a lot. 😁

  2. I have a barometer but never *check* it to correlate with knee, ankle or sinus pain. I can just feel the pressure changing and that's all I need to know LOL! your comment (or Jessie's) about being judgemental made me laugh. My dearest heart friend of 45 years (who is 12 yrs older than me) always says *well, I am NOT judgemental, I am opinionated and I'm an old woman.....I know what I like and what I don't like and I'm free to say either one*. I love that!

PS I shudder to think May was hit by a car!!!!!! Good heavens.

  3. I love you and your blog! I keep checking to see if you have updated throughout the day and always glad to see when it has been!
I have 2 replaced knees and they do hurt when the weather changes!

    1. I pretty much post about 6:30 pm EST so there you go!
Thank you for your sweet words.
I bet replaced knees do hurt when the weather gets funky.

  4. My hip speaks loudly and often in response to barometric pressure changes. Like you, I live at sea level and I find it,unfortunately, quite accurate! It was broken about 45 years ago and has not taken to my 67 years well. Oh well. There are worse things.

    1. Old wounds and breaks never really go away, do they? Lucky us.

  5. I've broken ribs twice, and bad enough to leave dents in my lungs. They never have troubled me. The leg I broke three (?) years ago just despises rain and cold. It hurts so bad I limp.

    1. Well I'm damn glad that your ribs AND leg you broke don't both bother you! That would be horrible, Joanne.

  6. Chickens do how they do, no body is the boss of them!Clearly...When i saw your photo I thought you had come to Bellingham and went to Cost
co without me! They are all alike.Glad to know that you were not here and did not let me know...I would have been cross! I ache all the time lately, so it is difficult to tell but i know folks who have had to move away from here because the cold rain and misery is too much for their ailments, arthritis and jointy things. Of course they go to
Arizona or the desert down yonder, Dry heat.

    1. I swear to you, Linda Sue- if I ever come to Bellingham I will let you know. (Hide your boots.)
I can imagine that your climate is not great for all of the breaks and bends that the human body can accumulate over the years. Same here, really. Too damn humid.

  7. Yes, you're judgemental 😉. But which of us isn't?
I'm pretty sure the joint ache is real.

  8. But what would life be without opinions - and blogs for that matter too. I like opinionated people, so long as they are respectful of others rights to disagree - and open to change themselves - that, I think is crucial!

    1. I agree entirely! And the older I get, the more I am apt to realize I've had wrong-thinking about something and am quite able to admit that. I do have my pride but it doesn't seem to work that way.

  9. Why did they build Costco on the side of a hill? It is easier to shop when the floor is horizontal. With your talk about sewing I wonder if you have seen the BBC's "Great British Sewing Bee"? Shirley loves it while I tolerate it. I think you would love it too.

    1. Heh-heh. Makes shopping more of a challenge! I would love to watch that show but I don't think we can get it yet. We will eventually and I know I will love it.

  11. Was it really last July when I was afraid to breathe because of your broken ribs? That long ago?

I hear about people feeling the weather in their joints and old injuries, so there must be something in it.

    1. Yes- last July!
I, too, think there is something about the weather and old injuries aching. I think it has something to do with tightening of the tendons when the barometer drops.

  12. The big guy broke his leg eleven years ago and it aches something awful when the weather changes. He has a titanium rod in it with screws and I wonder if that makes the pain worse.

I'm glad life is getting back to normal for you. We're still in midst of it sadly.

    1. May had her titanium rod and screws removed! But she still has the pain for sure.
Baby step by baby step, we are able to reclaim some sort of normality. I hope your time comes soon.

  13. I do believe breaks can be affected by weather changes. Years ago my ex kicked the sh*t out of me, including my hand (which I later had to have x-rayed). It wasn't broken but even now, under certain weather conditions, that particular spot hurts like crazy!

    1. I'd like to beat the shit out of your ex. I mean- not really but yeah, really. I'm so glad you left him.
Doesn't seem fair that you still have to suffer like that for something he did.

  14. I've always heard stories about old breaks (and joints, too) being affected by weather, but I have no idea how true they are or why that would happen. I fortunately haven't broken anything (knock on wood!) so I don't know firsthand.

I love your spontaneous photo! Talk about slice-of-life! LOL

    1. You've never broken anything? How about a heart or two? I bet those ache somewhere for someone.
      Slice of life, indeed!

  15. Yep, cats are very judgmental! I’m pretty sure I cracked a few ribs with a fall last Christmas Eve and yes, I definitely feel it when it’s humid, which is pretty much all the time here. Have fun with the wild cowboys tomorrow!
