Another perfectly beautiful day and one I feel as if I've wasted somewhat because I didn't spend most of it outside. I'm still staying off the foot which is getting better all the time but it's not quite there yet. But being on the porch is not bad. I can see the birds and the blooming Bradford pears, keep an eye on the chickens and enjoy the sweet spring air.
I did get Levon's blanket made today and since it's "just" a blanket and not an Official Name Blanket it was fast, easy, and came out nicely enough. I cut out the fabric on my table on the porch which was good for my spirit and back, too, because I wasn't having to do my creaky old floor dance on my knees.
I had no fabric that even vaguely went with the gray, yellow, and orange theme of the heavy equipment so I used a very soft green flannel that I had for the back. It's relatively light-weight because the printed material is just cotton and I only used a piece of old heavy sheeting as the middle layer. I put in a few embroidery thread ties to hold the middles all together and I think it'll be fine for a small boy who really, really wanted his blanket. I have not made a pillow yet. We shall see about that. I do have enough fabric leftover but then August will demand a pillow and this will never end.
Mr. Moon made a trip to Orlando today. He helped our across-the-street neighbor buy a car that was there and they drove down together for her to pick it up and for him to get a golf cart that he used to drive around the many acres of pavement at the auto auction when he attended in person every week before he started buying via the online auction. I heard from him a little while ago and although he and some security guy drove around the place for hours, the golf cart was never located, and Mr. Moon is quite unhappy because not only does he not have his golf cart, he is also missing an FSU basketball game on the TV.
Sigh.
I just tasted my sauerkraut and it's pretty nice although there's not nearly enough liquid in it. I did not press it down enough, I think. But I can add saltwater to it and that should do the trick. It's very crispy and rather spicy, as cabbage can be.
I think you nailed it, your description of President Biden. He’s the real deal. I don’t expect perfect but i truly believe that he tries to do the right thing every day.
ReplyDeleteCute blanket/quilt. Perfect for a lover of big machinery! My two year old grandson is the same. Our first shot is tomorrow! One step closer to hugging children and grandchildren!
Debbie
Oh, Debbie! Soon you will be hugging those bebes! Hurray!
DeleteYes, Levon will like that blanket. Have you considered a pillowcase instead of a pillow. Much easier, and then it will be on Jessie to get it through the laundry and back on the pillow.
ReplyDeleteYes. I did absolutely think about a pillow case. I'm still pondering this. I think he sort of expects a entire pillow which would not be hard to make and Jess can throw it in the washer when it's time.
DeleteYou may just be right about that...I think pillow cases are a great idea, too and thanks to you I now know what to do with left over cabbage.
ReplyDeleteWell, it took an entire smallish head of cabbage to make that one jar of sauerkraut. But look up the recipe online. It is so easy.
DeleteI One hundred percent agree about Our Joe. Cleaning up the damn mess of orange poop left seared all over everywhere. Four years is not long enough to undo the damage but Joe is all business and getting off to a grand start.
ReplyDeleteYou are a fast sewer of things! That is a quick and wonderful blanket to wrap around that darling child. He will want to wear it, you realize.
So far, I could not be much happier with Joe.
DeleteThat quiltish blanket only took a tiny bit of actual sewing. Well, in distance it was a bit but it was all straight down the row. I think he loves it.
I think he will certainly be pleased with his blanket that he needs urgently.
ReplyDeleteURGENTLY! As temps are getting into the 80's here.
DeleteThe blanket will get a lot of love.
ReplyDeleteYour description of the hungry cardinals fits the line up on my deck rail as they await turns on the double-sided suet feeder-- though I call it O'Hare at rush hour (hated flying into LaGuardia--if the windy landing didn't make me sick, the brake-slamming cab ride into NYC always accomplished the task). I digress. Seven cardinals lined up in a row yesterday, including a female cardinal who wasn't taking any crap from the fellows.
I've never actually flown into LaGuardia. Well, maybe. I did fly to NY once but I can't remember where we landed.
DeleteI have a lady cardinal on the feeder as we speak. She is being wary.
I read somewhere, probably on twitter, that Joe Biden was made for this moment in history, it's why he failed to get the nomination all the other times he tried.
ReplyDeletethe days have been very nice here too. found another plant survivor this morning.
If he continues on the way he is going, he's going to make a lot of headway against ageism. Bless his heart!
DeleteHurray for surviving plants!
Good job with Levon's blanket! Well done! The little guy should be very happy with that. Beneath it he can dream his dreams of front loaders, tractors and other robust vehicles.
ReplyDelete"Robust vehicles." I LOVE that. Yes.
DeleteLevon will love that blanket! What is it with little guys and construction equipment! I just gave my 3 year old grandson, Michael, a small-size Tonka set of an excavator and dump truck and it came with pretend dirt!?! We got a good laugh about that! Like they need more dirt to get into while INSIDE the house? LOL
ReplyDeletePretend dirt? Are you kidding? What in hell is it made of? That's crazy. I know Michael loves his excavator, dump truck and..."dirt."
DeleteI love that blanket. I'm still struggling on the enormous patchwork quilt I started 10 million years ago. It's just too big so I'm going to put wool ties all over it too as it's just impossible to sew. Never again! Never anything that big. And isn't spring just wonderful! My favourite season!
ReplyDeleteYay for wool ties! I back that decision 100%.
DeleteSpring is absolutely lovely.
I so agree with you about Joe Biden. I think he may turn out to be a great president. He's both humble and tough, and he's learned a lot through the years. Also, I think Levon will absolutely love that blanket!
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is beautiful! And I'm glad your sauerkraut turned out well (if not liquidy enough, LOL). That sucks about Mr. Moon's golf cart. Does he think it's been stolen?!
