Look who I got to see today! Jessie and the boys came by for a quick visit. She brought me peaches they'd bought in South Carolina on their way home so I can make a few jars of peach preserves which is Mr. Moon's favorite. There was no kissing but I will admit to a little side-hugging. August is actually sick with something himself. All the cousins had it and it is mostly a fever that doesn't seem to want to leave for a week or two and Jessie was more worried about giving us that then of them getting covid from us. It was so damn good to see them. They had stopped at Wendy's to get food to bring out to eat and after they left here they were going to go to the boys' school orientation to meet their teachers. Levon is getting a teacher that August had and there was great jubilation over that as she is a favorite. August reports that she is apt to tell the children, "Sit down, shut your pie holes, and stop driving me crazy!" which the kids love. I guess she says it sweetly. Or else they just think that "pie hole" is a very funny way to refer to their mouths.
Levon has lost his first tooth and is pretty proud of that. August comes up to my shoulder now in height. I can still see the baby in Levon which makes me so happy but I know that soon he'll be all big boy and that, too, is a wonderful thing although I do have a strong tendency to grieve my babies, even the ones that are now in their forties.
Glen went out and did some chain sawing and branch hauling and after about an hour and a half he was done. There's an excessive heat warning here this week and in checking the weather I see there is also an alert for some sort of storm situation with heavy winds that could start any minute now.
Oh just great.
The only thing I've done outside today was to water the porch plants. I did not even take the compost out. I just don't have it in me. This shit is hanging on for too long although my definition of "too long" is a bit hazy and not medically informed. I am speaking personally here. The sinus situation for both of us has been better today so that's a good thing. Glen's actually at the Wacissa right now, seeking relief for both body and soul. I was invited too, of course, but I just don't have the energy. The thought of getting from the parking lot to the river was more than I could handle. He's having a very hard time being stuck in the house. He's just not good at that whereas I am fine with shelling peas in front of the TV or working on my puzzle.
Well, we got some rain just now and a little thunder. Glen's back and he said he drove through a storm so bad on his way home that he almost had to pull over. Tom called him to report that he's back from St. Augustine only to find that a branch has fallen through his bedroom in the trailer.
"What'd you tell him?" I asked.
"I said, 'Well, Tom, you have a perfectly good house ready for you to move into. I'll come help you do that tomorrow if you want.'"
And that is the way of it. Change is hard for all of us but for some of us, it's nigh impossible.
Human beings, as Jimmy Buffett once sang, are flawed individuals.
I know I am.
Love...Ms. Moon
Jimmy had that right. There's another weather system that might organize into something...This time of year is so much fun...not.
ReplyDeleteThere is ALWAYS another system that might organize into something this time of year. Ugh.
DeleteSeeing the little guys had to be good as medicine for you. And fresh peaches! My two grands, college age, came today for a few hours. It was so fun to catch up and talk politics with them, among many things. They are looking forward to voting for Harris/Walz. We didn't stop talking at all. I took them to lunch at a favorite Mexican restaurant. They're busy so I don't see them as often as when they were younger but that's okay, too. They are thriving.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ms. Deb L- that sounds like perfection! Talking politics with your college age grands! They sound like good, sound thinking young folks. What a terrific visit.
DeleteWhen I saw August, I could only think, What a nice looking young man he's become! It's OK Levon still looks young. That's his job, for awhile.
ReplyDeleteAnd as we all know, Levon does love a job and he puts his heart into it.
DeleteIt must be great to have everybody back home. Boys grow so quickly and August reaching your shoulder height is amazing; it seems he's got those Mr. Moon "tall" genes.
ReplyDeleteAND- his father has some aunts that are well over six feet tall. Vergil's tall too. So who knows how tall these boys will be?
DeleteSlow down woman and let your body heal. When I had covid it took months to get my energy back.
ReplyDeleteWe lost all our peaches in BC. They had a cold snap in January and killed them. Sigh.
Just take it easy.
I felt better today but I DID NOT DO TOO MUCH! I PROMISE!
DeleteIt did reassure me to hear that it took you months to get your energy back. It's a bitch.
That was a welcome visit, with peaches, too! So thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteFunny that Tom's still clinging to that trailer even with a tree on it! With a lovely house right there. There's a Yorkshire saying my mom would have brought out at this juncture: "There's nowt so funny as folks! "
Jessie knows I do love to make peach preserves.
DeleteTom is not making rational decisions. I suppose this is pretty obvious.
sometimes folks just want to be left alone to figure shit out for themselves- even if they are no good at it. That would be tom. I reckon. Seems Tom needs insurmountable problems . That is his comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteHe does want to make his own decisions for sure and that is his right even though his decisions are dangerous to his wellbeing and to others, honestly, when it comes to his driving. He has insurmountable problems- cancer and strokes- so why he would have to create more is beyond me but there is no rationale to this.
DeleteI guess Tom is going to have to move into the little house after all. I miss the baby days too, but now I have the twins who are two now and the great grandson who is 16 months, so I still get baby cuddles.
ReplyDeleteOh, you have lots of baby cuddles! That's terrific!
DeleteYou? Flawed? Naaaaah! So great you got to see the boys, They ARE growing up. As for Tom, may the branch through the bedroom be the straw that breaks the camel’s back... or something.
ReplyDeleteDeeply, deeply flawed in fact. And not ashamed to admit it. I bet you anything that August grew 2 inches this summer.
DeleteTom has NEW plans, now! We shall see how that turns out.
Oh, I thought Tom DID move into the tiny house? I guess not. As Mitchell said, maybe this branch will do the trick.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to see the boys but sorry everyone is battling viruses!
Vergil had to take August to the doctor today. He ran a fever of over 103 last night. Bless his little boy heart.
DeleteNope. Tom has not moved into the little house nor does he plan to.
an hour and a half is the most I can do out there and haven't even done that since Monday. just too damn hot and watering the potted plants is about all I'm getting accomplished. one of our volunteers at SHARE who is in her early 80s got covid and while she no longer has it she is still trying to regain her energy. glad you got to see the boys and that August is going to be taller than you in no time.
ReplyDeleteso you think Tom will finally move into his tiny House? the magic 8 ball says...reply hazy, try again.
Ellen, I probably spent twenty minutes outside picking up a few little sticks and branches and hauling them to the burn pile and unloading them and I felt like I'd just walked on the surface of the sun for an hour.
DeleteI believe that the Magic 8 ball is saying, "Definitely Not."
I think Mother Nature is telling Tom to move into the tiny house, dammit!
ReplyDeleteFatigue was the worst symptom for my oldest son when he was recovering from Covid so be patient with yourself! You will feel better soon...
My grandsons who live near me will be in 1st and 2nd grade starting next week and Michael, the younger one got the same teacher that Thomson had in 1st grade and we just love her so I can understand exactly how happy and excited your boys are!
In other news, I have hives on my arms and legs from I don't know what! Itchy but trying not to scratch! Ugh!
Tom would not listen to Jesus Christ himself if he came down and told Tom to move into that tiny house.
DeleteI am glad to be reassured that fatigue is something that a lot of people deal with after covid.
Glad your youngest grandson got the teacher he wanted too. That makes things so much easier.
How are your hives today? Here- let's pretend I'm a dermatologist, "Have you started using a new laundry product or body product in the last few days?"
I think anyone who thinks himself without flaws is not a person that should be trusted any farther than you can kick their perfect behinds.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell how tall August is even though he is sitting. He's going to be tall like his granddad. Is he the tallest in his class? I am glad you are feeling better even though it is in increments.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that August is the tallest in his class. You know, Jessie was a tiny thing for many of her young hears and now she's just half an inch short of six feet.
DeleteThose Boys are getting so big, before you know it they'll begin looking like Men! Both so Handsome.
