Signs Of The Time

My confederate rose is finally blooming but way, way up in the sky where it's trying to get light. I have such a shady yard which is great but it also makes it quite hard to grow a lot of things I'd love to grow like fruit trees and flowering bushes.

I had a pretty good day. I decided to take my walk on Whitehouse Road which I haven't done in a long time and it was okay but I was completely horrified by the number of Trump signs. My road, as I have said, is quite mixed as to race but Whitehouse Road is not. There are some truly huge houses on it, mini-plantations, I would almost say, and most of them have Trump signs, Trump banners, huge American flags, those black and white flags with a blue line in them showing support for law enforcement, AND "stop socialism" signs. I am not shitting you. Assholes don't even know what socialism is. And the irony of all of this being on Whitehouse Road is not lost on me.
Remember the house that goes crazy decorating for holidays? Especially Christmas and Halloween? Well, they've got the skeletons and ghosts and dragons and witches and tombstones all set up as well as a plentiful bounty of all the signs and flags I just mentioned.

Oh yeah. I forgot the "Don't Tread On Me" flags. It's a veritable spooky festival and I am not talking about the giant spiders.

So when I got home I made a real effort to figure out where I could get some Biden/Harris signs and it turned out that in my county the place to get them was the house of a couple who live right off Whitehouse Road and in fact, I had walked within about half a mile of their house. I emailed them and they wrote right back and asked me how many I wanted and I said, "Two," and next thing you know, I'd driven over there and they were such nice people who have gone to a great deal of trouble and effort to get these signs to give out. They'll even deliver them to you! So I got my signs after a little chat and I stuck them in the ground in front of the house when I got home. I surely hope they don't get stolen but wouldn't be surprised if they are. It really annoys the crap out of me that Biden signs around here are getting snatched left and right while my neighbor's Trump sign (one of the few in this immediate area) has been up since 2016 without being disturbed. I can only assume that Democrats are more respectful of others and their property than Republicans.
Which...duh.

Here's an interesting thing- the company that we get our Medicare supplemental insurance from gave us a robocall today and I couldn't believe what it said which was that they did not think that Donald Trump has done an adequate job protecting Americans from the Coronavirus and they were asking their customers to vote for Joe Biden. I shouldn't have deleted the message because I'd really like to listen to it again to see if I could suss out whether it's truly legit. This is a HUGE company. AARP endorsed, etc. If it is legitimate, I am incredibly impressed and somewhat heartened.

I spent part of the day listening to the hearings of Amy Coney Barrett being held in Washington. I love how all the Republicans are like, "How DARE you attack this incredibly qualified WOMAN for her religion?!" when of course if she were Muslim they'd be shitting themselves and screaming about Sharia Law. Of course, no practicing Muslim is in any danger of facing the House or the Senate anytime soon and certainly not under this administration. What a travesty this whole appointment is! But y'all already know that.

So. As usual, things were up and down, not only here but everywhere, I feel sure.

Tomorrow I go for my very invasive procedure appointment where my uterine lining will be observed, not for any problems I'm having but to satisfy the doctor who prescribes my bio-identical hormones. Not looking forward to that at all. I just wrote a paragraph with WAY too much information in it and lucky for you, I deleted it. Come back tomorrow and see if I go into details about how it went.

Here's a picture that came up in my memories on FB this morning.

I think I've probably posted it before. That was taken at least thirty-two years ago. Wasn't Mr. Moon the handsomest thing you've ever seen? And look at little Lily! Check out my Reebok high-tops. Man, I loved those shoes. They were so damn comfortable. I felt invincible in them.

That's all I have for today. Time to go finish up supper prep. I've got a huge venison roast from the freezer in the big Dutch oven after I pressure-cooked it and now I need to add the potatoes and carrots. I hope it's fit to eat. I have to say that venison is mighty darn lean. Which is good.

Y'all take care. Let's all hold on to each other during the next few weeks and hope for the best.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Good for you for putting up Biden signs. Maybe it will give others hope too. That photo of you two is amazing. It's so strange looking back from where we are now.

I'm guessing it's an endometrial biopsy or US. Yay.

    Take care Mary.

    1. Yep. US. Could be worse. But still...weird. I've had the endo biopsy before and I'm glad this ain't that.

  2. It's scary that so many of your neighbours are Trump supporters. How on earth can they vote for a Vietnam War draft dodger and a blatant tax evader too - not to mention his sexism, his racism and his failed wall project. I thought that Mexico was going to pay for that! At least that is what Trump said. Nice to know that you are not the only Biden/Harris supporters in the Lloyd area. Biden is going to get in but Trump's evil legacy will continue. If I were you I would be hesitant about putting up Biden placards with so many Trump nutcases around you.

    1. Those Trump nutcases mainly live a few miles away. The ones next door to me are just, well- crazy. And racist. Although they'd be the first to tell you that that was a lie. The people across the street have Biden signs and the guy on the other side does too. I like to think that we're a little bastion of liberal goodness right here. And for the next mile down my road are all Biden signs. I'll never forget how many jokey signs there were last time we were in Mexico about that damn wall. Tip jars labeled, "Trump's Wall Fund." Etc.

  3. oh my word! you look like his CHILD! Is he eleventy feet tall? handsome and darling the two of you. This election scares me more than Dennis's mask! I think i am going to go into hiding, from all of it. Good luck with the uterine lining thing, uncomfortable at best, Just Ewww. I will be thinking of you with my legs tightly crossed! LOVE XO

YOu're right- the election is scarier than Dennis in that mask. I hope it turns out to be all Reese's Peanut Butter cups and joy.

  4. I work, (and half time live), in a very blue state but this town in an ugly red pocket. I notice that the Trump signs are huge and getting larger by the day. They also seem to be posted in places that don’t appear to be private property. There primary purpose is to intimidate.

    1. One of my down-the-road neighbors has posted Biden signs all up and down our road. Bless her. Yesterday when I was on my walk I was thoroughly disgusted at the signs, flags and banners.

  6. You and Mr Moon are just the cutest. He has much the same aura today, a man who can be relied on, steady and true, and so dang handsome too. The news about those Trump signs is pretty depressing. Figures that it would be on the road with the mansions. Their stock portfolios are doing nicely so who cares if the president is a xenophobic psychopath. And you’re so right about the religion thing with Amy Coney Barrett. Hypocrites. I get depressed sometimes by all of it. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow. I know you’ll be glad when that procedure is behind you. Love.

    1. They don't care if he's a xenophobic psychopath and quite frankly, they probably are in the same club. The south is such a weird place. We have crazies on all sides of the spectrum from some of the most liberal people you'll ever meet to some of the most racist.
I listened to more of Barret's hearing today. It is fucking depressing.

  7. What a gorgeous photo! What do the grands think of the Boppy and Mer from way back when? I turn 65 next August and I’m getting bombarded with emails and snail mail about the best supplement. I’m SO confused!!

    1. I'm pretty sure they don't believe that's us. I mean- how could that happen?
We like United Health Care pretty much. It is horribly confusing. Mr. Moon did all of it for us. I'd just be in bed weeping a year later if it were up to me.

  9. What a beautiful couple then and now! There’s a few signs here, mostly displayed in homes police officers live in. This is going to be a difficult few weeks to get through, I’m afraid to hope.

  10. I went to the dentist today and thought of you and our mutual dislike of dentist visits. Next is a mammogram, a colonoscopy, etc. I shudder at them all. I LOVE the photo of you and Mr. Moon. It's fantastic!

    1. The best thing about a colonoscopy is the good drugs. Mamms don't bother me so much- my bosoms have no structural integrity left after all that nursing.
I like that picture too. It makes me laugh.

  11. If your insurance company is endorsed by AARP then they probably are against Trump. AARP is big on the rights for retired people and pretty much against all that Trump is in favor of, thank goodness.

Most of the Biden signs get stolen in the small town I live in too. It makes me sick. I will not stoop to their level.

You and Mr. Moon are both adorable in that picture! And of course Lily too!

    1. The AARP seems to be a fairly on-the-level advocacy group for the olders.
And no, I won't stoop to stealing Trump signs either although I may have thrown my chewing gum at a few.
      Isn't Glen gorgeous?

  13. The photo of T/P sign shows it is decorated quite appropriately--tombstone, skeletons, witches, dragons. Perfect typecasting. Apocalyptic reminder of the destruction wrought by the current administration.

Good luck with the procedure. Hoping all is well.

    1. Not sure where their mermaid skeletons fit in with all of the rest of the decor but they're heavy on those this year. I guess all the mermaids will die if we continue with the current administration's policies on the environment.

  14. If a sign is going to be stolen anyway, I'd be tempted to go out at dark o'clock and plant it on a trumpist's property. Just sayin.

Great pic of the Moon couple there.

  15. I love that picture! Old pictures are so much fun.

The flags are MUCH scarier than your neighbor's Halloween decorations. Maybe you can put a hidden camera on your Biden signs? Just to see if someone messes with them? I'd do it with my garden cam if I were there.

It's interesting that your insurance company (or whatever) made that call. Isn't there a rule about corporate campaigning? Seems questionable to me, but at least they were making the right argument.

If you brought up your point about a Muslim nominee, and how differently he or she would be treated, the right-wingers would say, "Well, this is a Christian nation!"

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've thought about putting the trail cam on the signs. Yeah, I agree about the call. Not sure about that but why would someone else pretend to be them? And I guess if pushed, the company could say that for the health and safety of their clients they believe that Biden is the right choice.
Oh, you better believe we're a Christian nation. Did you hear Ted Cruz going on and on about how a monument with the ten commandments had to be taken down and blah, blah, blah? What a jerk.

  16. I have to look away when I see a sign for the current prez (I don't even like to type his name)! Best of luck with your procedure - relax and rest afterward! Thanks for posting.

    1. I do not like to see that name either.
Someone gave me a sticker that said "Make America Great Again, Dump Trump!" and I threw it away because I don't even want that name near me.

  17. my confederate rose hasn't bloomed yet though it is covered with buds. these two are about 4 years old and have developed that deformity this year that all my confederate roses eventually develop apparently regardless of where I plant them. I have no idea what is causing it and no one I've shown has any idea either even the so-called experts. so I don't know how well the flowers are going to emerge.

my supplemental is also sponsored by AARP but I haven't gotten that phone call or message. maybe they're more concerned about Florida than Texas. there are some Trump signs in my small town but also some Biden signs but the next town down is nothing but Trump signs and banners, at least the part I drive through.

I did not listen to any of the hearing because, well, republicans so what's the point. and my point is, her religion aside which she will interpret everything through, she's only got 3 years experience on the bench. 3 years is not enough to qualify for a Supreme Court justice!

    1. Florida is a pretty darn important state. Did you see that the people down in "The Villages" who are generally a major republican stronghold are switching their alliances to Biden? Maybe there's hope.
I heard today that until Reagan, many of the justices had NO experience on the bench. They were mostly just thought to be excellent legal minds. Weird.
I wonder what's up with your confederate rose?

  18. Gosh I didn't realize Mr. Moon was that tall - or are you standing in a hole? I've watched a little of the SCOTUS hearings (wanted to punch Ted Cruz in the face and thought Cory Booker was fabulous). Think I'll have to give the rest a miss though because it gets me so worked up. And good luck with your procedure. None of it is pleasant but best to get this stuff sorted sooner rather than putting it off!

      Procedure went fine. No problems.
