Early Morning Chicken Post

Yesterday Harley and his mama, Petit Fleur, came over to look at the chickens. I asked Harley if he wanted to hold one and let me take his picture. He said he did but I think maybe he changed his mind midway through the photo session. You can tell from the expression on his face that this might be one of those it seemed like a good idea at the time situations.
Right after I took this picture, Maynard flapped his wings and Harley let him drop, which was the sensible thing to do. No harm done. I scooped up the chicken, put him back in the box and all was well.
I am not going to even bother thinking that Maynard may be a hen. I got up this morning to find him on top of the waterer, watching his flock with his little beady eyes.

Maynard- you the man!

  1. I thought about naming Maxine 'Harley' like 'Harlequinn', but picked Max instead. Totally cute kid. Cute chickens, in photos at least. I've never touched a live chicken.

  3. I got a warning about your content for the first time when coming to your blog. I guess chickens are some dirty, scary and scathing stuff. LOL.

  4. Yea, ole Harley is looking a little skeptical of the whole mission! He LOVES to hold those chickies though. We have tried really hard to teach him "gentle", and it looks like it's working. He does great with toads too! Amazing.

Thanks Justme. We especially like his Elfin ears!
    Peace and feathers,

  6. I just went back to sleep for a little morning nap after eating and studying and of course reading your blog, and guess who was in my dream as a big chicken? Maynard. Hah, the chickens are in my dreams, thanks.

  8. Erin- "Harley" isn't his real name but is the one that Mr. Moon has always called him for some unfathomable reason. I like it.

Justme- Isn't he? And smart? That boy is going to rule the world one day. He already is the reigning king of our little village.

Marsha- Nah. I put that up there. Not sure why. Not like I think kids would find much of interest to read on blessourhearts.

Petit Fleur- You are such a good mommy. And Harley is such a darling boy.

    DTG- Don't I know it.

HoneyLuna- I haven't dreamed of the chickens yet. I'm sure I will, though. Was Maynard being mean? Did he talk?

Nicol- Which is why he's going to be such a great flock-protector.

  11. XBox- Perfect, right?

AJ- No. Maynard has always been very dark. Perhaps there was confusion in the blog. Sometimes I talk about him but picture another chick. Yeah. I'm good.

    Steph- Don't we all?

Harley is just too cute for words. That face says it all.
