The Good, The Bad, And The Amazing Americans Who Showed Up

I actually took that picture yesterday. That is the sea grape that I grew from a sea grape seed that I picked up near Sebastian. It has been a slow grower but it is still alive and seems relatively healthy although there is some bug damage on the a few of the leaves. It's about three feet tall now.
Last summer when we were in Roseland, Glenn Our Darling Landlord told me to go ahead and dig up any of the baby sea grapes growing in the backyard where we were staying and I did dig up a few. I planted them in pots when we got home and they are looking very good.

They are even sending forth new babies. Perhaps one day I will have a lovely sea grape garden.
Well, that's a fond dream which is not going to come true unless I move farther south because I don't think sea grapes especially enjoy freezing temperatures.

I slept very late this morning. I think that last Zepbound dose sort of did me in or perhaps that has nothing to do with my low energy right now. It could be my body working on repairing whatever's happening in my knee which was quite bothersome this morning. In fact, I decided that today would be a good day to just stay off it as much as possible and I suppose I have but of course I really haven't and I am reassured because if it was really torturing me, I would be more apt to rest it. As the day has progressed, it has felt better and better and that too, seems a good sign. If it were seriously injured, I don't think that would be the case.

I have been following different news reports of the No Kings protests across the country and it certainly looks like a hell of a lot of people have shown up to stand up for democracy. Tallahassee had quite a few protestors at the old capitol building which stands right in front of the new capitol building which is one of the most phallic buildings in the world as far as I can tell. The old one is a graceful thing, though.

It would appear that millions of Americans came out today to voice their opinions about what's going on in Washington and I'm not talking here specifically about the parade taking place there to honor Dear Leader with jets and tanks and the bullshit reason for the parade which, as we all know is a lie. Trump couldn't care less about when the US Army was formed but he does care a great deal about his own birthday and the fact that this is the sort of tribute that rulers in dictatorships can expect and do indeed get.
How very, very sad and weak do these men have to be to put on such penile pageantries displaying all of the perceived strength that they themselves do not have?

Well. Hopefully the tide is turning against this administration and people's eyes are opening but even as I say that, tragedies are occurring and I can't even believe what happened in Minnesota. If nothing else, I believe that Republicans are getting a clue about American's mindset when it comes to Trump's dream of his very own authoritarian government and that their chances of being elected or reelected to office are sliding at the same exact rate as Trump's place in the polls.

To all of you who put on your shoes and made your signs and showed up today, I thank you. YOU are what America is. Not tanks in streets or jets flying fancy formations in the sky over Trump's reviewing stand or ICE agents who are as determined as KKK members not to show their faces because they know what they are doing is the wrong thing, or anyone, anyone at all wearing a MAGA hat, or driving a truck with a confederate flag flying from it or taking a US senator to his knees and handcuffing him because he wanted to ask a question at a PRESS conference, or arresting a mother and father for the sin of being brown and taking them into custody while their child weeps because he has no relatives in this country and no idea where his parents are.

Mr. Moon has already started his Father's Day by catching a large catfish off his very own dock.

He reports seeing two new alligators and I can't wait until those fuckers decide to bask in the sunlight in the backyard of the house that came with the dock.

Forgive me for once again being all over the place. I'm going to go cook an eggplant that I picked today.

Yes. More beans. All this rain is swelling them up like Trump's ego is swelling right now as missiles pass the reviewing stand in all of their long, hard glory.

That's all I have to say.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I love the look on Mr. Moon's face. That's a great picture, and deserves it's place on the wall. Two alligators. Ye gods. I know that you don't mind them, but I'm from the north where I'd choose a bear over two alligators any day of the week! Yep. We were there. We stood in the rain and it was awesome. So many people honking and waving. We had a lot of support, and that made getting soaking wet completely worth it.

    1. So glad to hear of more protesters! What a fun fisherman you showed. And oh the veggies. I'll have my eggplant with some parmesan please. It doesn't need to be breaded.

    2. Debby- So far all the gators seen there have been little ones and they will definitely scatter if they're on the shore and people show up.
      We have bears too.
      Sigh.
I'm so glad that yesterday was a positive day for you and what sounds like millions of others.

Barbara- Yep. Glen is always happy to catch a nice fish.
I made this eggplant into a casserole that was taught to me years and years ago. I love it and it is comfort food for me.

  2. I'm so cynical about people coming to the light with Trump because I think his type of "thinking" is passed down (apple don't fall far), but I hope for what you hope for as well with people starting to see the madness. I do hope that.

That's a lot o' produce! I'm getting a few tomatoes a week. The raccoon poop is all around the raised garden so I think they're stealing much of the bounty, but I spied a green pepper today that's almost ready to pluck from the vine.

Look at those protesters in Tally with such a gigantic mega structure in the background! :D OK, Google "penis of the plains." You'll be amazed at the similarities of the architect's imagination! :D

Hopefully today was a better day for you! -Nicol

    1. The penis of the plains is similar but it doesn't come with the full set. It's just the sausage, no eggs.
I don't have any idea how you'd deter raccoons unless you did some sort of electric wire thing.

    2. haha. No, no eggs, you're correct. Yeah, my neighbor feeds foxes and so there's all kinds of stuff back there. Some kind of wire would work probably. Yes.

  5. There was a strong turnout in my little city. Police basically left everyone alone and it was a pretty uplifting crowd. I don't really believe magats will change; but I do hope those who were indifferent or lazy or whatever and just couldn't bother to vote are now waking up. Keeping hope.

    1. I would be interested to know how many Trump voters have had their mind's changed. I think a few probably have.

  6. I am so thankful that the American people are standing up and speaking out about the fuckery going on. I spit on trump.

  7. You want to hear about weird dreams? I dreamed I returned to this alien outpost that I had been to before. The humans and aliens were working things out. The alien larva had to spend a month inside a human male before they could be born and survive, and I was the one that had to put them in because I was the nurse. There were four larva and four men. I had to insert these larva, which were not small and had folded wings that unfurled once inside, into the men's rectums. I knew one of the guys too. The larva stay inside the rectum for one month, eating the men's stool, and then the men have to birth/shit them out, except they were bigger now. How's that for weird dreams:)

    1. Okay. Yes. That is absolutely the weirdest dream I've ever heard of. I think you might want to discuss this with a professional.
Unless, of course, you really are being abducted and well, actually, in that case you should talk to a different sort of professional.

  8. One thing's for sure, there were a HELL of a lot more people at the No KIng's protests across the country than there were at Donnie Doll Hands' birthday parade. The pictures of him realizing how few people showed up and falling asleep were hysterical. Even better than watching all the MAGATs in his cabinet that he no doubt forced to go. They all looked like they were watching paint dry.

    1. Oh my god. The pictures from that parade are so fucking sad. Wah-wah! I'm pretty sure this is not the show DT thought he was going to get. Melania didn't look disturbed in the least. I think she may have been amused.

  9. Fabulous turnout all over the country, and practically nobody in rainy DC. I heard weather cancelled the flyover. Everyone I know who marched was happy with turn out and support from passing cars.

    1. I think it was genius not to have many protesters in DC. The comparison between the "crowd" there and in so many other cities was just hilarious.

  10. It was a huge turnout here in Raleigh! Fun, friendly people, hysterical signs, lots of honking support! And PEACEFUL!

  11. I heard from someone that very few stood for Trump's parade while in places that were holding protests the streets were packed. That made me happy.
I was thinking just yesterday that those parades are usually held in places like Russia and North Korea, so I guess that's what Trump wants to be, a hated dictator.

    1. That's the point. But not hated, specifically- just feared.

    1. The eggplant was delicious. Well, it still is. I didn't eat all of it.
Catfish have to be one of the ugliest fish in the world.
I'm so grateful for the protesters too.

  14. We had a great turnout in Naperville, IL and the crowd was terrific. Fun signs, chanting, marching, lots of support from cars driving by. Helpful police stopping traffic so we could march through. We had wonderful weather for a wonderful day.

    1. Good for Naperville AND the police there. So glad that's the way it went.

  15. "Long, hard glory" -- LOL! You captured the essence of that ridiculous parade for sure. I'm also happy to see the huge turnout at the No Kings protests. How often is it that a president just five months into his term motivates such an outpouring of disapproval? Pretty telling. Let's go, midterms!

I'm so glad your sea grapes have survived. I didn't give them much chance when you first planted them, because I thought they'd need salty sand to survive, but apparently not!

    1. Do you think Trump knows he has a dick fetish? Or whatever you want to call it. I mean- the Arnold Palmer thing? Jesus.
I don't want to wait for the midterms. I want him to be impeached, convicted, and removed. NOW. I know- a dream.
I didn't think the sea grapes had much chance either and yet...they're alive!

  16. Ms. Moon, your words are like a Southern storm—fierce, poetic, and full of truth. From sea grapes to swollen egos, you balance tenderness and rage with effortless grace. A raw, riveting read.

  17. The protests brought out impressive numbers.
Your sea grapes are looking great.
Alligators on the lawn. How do you discourage them?
The fishing proves to be outstanding. Glen looks happy with his catch.

    1. Not sure you really can discourage alligators from sun bathing if that's what they want to do. They enjoy a good bask.
      Glen WAS happy.

  18. I think the tide is turning. Let's just hope we have fair elections in the midterms

  19. All the reports I've seen and read today say the turnout for Trump's parade was dismal and the parade itself was rather embarrassing. Old creaky equipment, soldiers walking haphazard not marching, crappy music, and oh my god, corporate sponsors announced as different things went by. Of course. This is America after all. And Trump looked bored and unhappy. My fears of Trump ordering police and national guard to force violence were just that.

And of course that's why Trump ordered all those troops.
