I took this late yesterday afternoon because I found it amusing. Maurice and Sophie appear to be fascinated with each other. They have not had a squirmish of any kind, mainly because Maurice is absolutely not going to put herself in a position for that to happen. After all of those years of living with Jack, she knows how to avoid other creatures when she wants to. But I've seen her sit a few feet from Sophie, just studying her and yesterday they were taking each other's measure through the door which is quite safe.
Of course Sophie wanted to eat Maurice's food and then Maurice turned the tables and ate some of Sophie's, at one point even leisurely laying with a front leg over the bowl.
"I ain't scared of no dawgs," Maurice was saying. She slept with us all night though and stayed on the bed well into the morning to the point where I had to shoo her off when I went to make the bed around noon. She looked like this.
That cat was asleep.
I forgot to tell you that she brought in another rat the other night but this one was intact and whole and of course Mr. Moon was here to deal with it for me.
I was so grateful.
She is a huntress and that's all there is to it.
The boys were wild after supper last night. It was my fault because I didn't get supper on the table early enough and it was also Halloween's fault because it's been sugar, sugar, sugar nonstop ALTHOUGH, Vergil and Jessie have an arrangement with the boys wherein they allow the kids to keep ten pieces of whatever candy they want and then they trade the rest of it for screen minutes. And maybe something else. I forget. I asked August what ten pieces he was going to keep and he said, "Kit Kat, Kit Kat, Kit Kat, Kit Kat, Kit Kat, Kit Kat, and I don't know what the other four will be."
Anyway, it took the guys a while to get to sleep but probably because it was their mother trying to settle them instead of me. They're always so good for me but then again- I am not their mother and they really don't know my boundaries whereas they have been studying their mother since birth and know each and every button they can push.
Levon insisted that he wanted to sleep in the cradle.
"I fit!" he kept saying. "I just have to bend my knees."
Levon has a girlfriend now. He doesn't want to talk about her but he does want to talk about her. We've all been there. Jessie showed me a picture of a note that the girl gave him which is absolutely the best. It said (and I'm not going to try to spell like she did), "Meet me a Publix. Come to the bred ile."
The bold child was instructing him to meet her at Publix in the bread aisle! A perfect place for an assignation, I do believe. I like this girl's spirit and obvious fearlessness in the face of carbs.
Today I did laundry and followed Mr. Moon to Havana, Florida (not Cuba) so he could leave a truck there that needed repair. He has a guy in Havana. Mr. Moon has many guys. Then we went to downtown Havana and had lunch. Havana is known for its nice little shops selling exactly what you'd think they'd sell- antiques, things that smell good, vintage stuff, cute decor items, etc. We didn't do any shopping but lunch was okay. I just figured out today that Havana was named Havana because it used to be a huge tobacco growing area where the tobacco was also processed and a lot of it was made into cigars. People from Cuba moved here to roll cigars which was quite an art.
It only took me twenty years to figure this out.
And look who's here now!
It's the Big Guy kid! He's spending the night because he and his Boppie are going to get up early to go hunt. Guess what he wanted me to make for supper?
That's right. Chicken and dumplings. When I die the main thing my grandchildren are going to remember about me is that I always made chicken and dumplings. And pancakes.
And that is okay.
A week from today, Hank and Rachel shall be wed. I cannot believe that. I am going to make cookies tomorrow for the cookie table. Rachel asked me to make the Mr. Moon Survival Cookies and I will happily do that.
And of course, a week from today we will either be freaking the fuck out or, so fucking happy and relieved that we can't stand it.
I am thinking that yes, the increased dosage of the antidepressant is indeed helping and thank god for that.
Sorry about not answering comments once again. I shall try my hardest tomorrow to get to it. And oh- the fluffy slime turned out quite well. I don't know that it has any purpose on this earth except to play with because it feels so weird and good and interesting. As Jessie pointed out though, it would be a useful tool in things like stroke rehabilitation to get people to use their hands. I think she's right.
So now you know about fluffy slime. And so do I.
Love...Ms. Moon
Owen is almost as tall as his very tall Boppy! And just as as handsome too!
ReplyDeleteAnd Rosemarie- he is so BIG! Not just tall. Every time I see him I'm shocked.
DeleteAll my cats and dogs wound up sleeping together. I doubt Maurice would ever demean herself so. And Owen! Is he six feet now?
ReplyDeleteOwen's BEEN six feet for awhile. And speaking of feet- you should see the size of that boy's shoes.
DeleteThe Moon genes--they are both so handsome!
DeleteAll my animals have been rescues and they all got along, probably because they knew my house was their last stop! Good to see Mr Moon,if only between fishing trips!
ReplyDeleteMaurice and Jack were the absolute definition of rescues and they did not care a bit about showing any sort of kindness to each other.
DeleteOh, Mr. Moon's been around. I know this because his shoes are taking up a third of the kitchen by the back door.
If they are going hunting in the morning they had better take Maurice along, clearly the best hunter of all.
ReplyDeleteLevon in the cradle is so dear!
Maurice is indeed the best hunter but I've yet to see her drag home any venison.
DeleteWe should have let Levon sleep in there. What does it matter, really? He would have gotten tired of it pretty quickly.
That's a good idea, trading candy for screen time. I let Jack eat the candy after lunch and after supper but it's sitting out and he's not overly interested in it. A few more days and I'll send the bulk of it off to work because nurses will eat anything free:)
ReplyDeleteMarurice looks so peaceful sleeping. I love seeing Bagheera rolled up like that too.
Jack may just not have much of a sweet tooth. And yes, nurses will eat anything free.
DeleteI don't think I'd ever seen Maurice sleep like that before. She usually seems to have one eye open at all times.
"I fit, I just have to bend my knees" that's cute. I can well imagine the sugar hype, my kids used to have it on Christmas Day. I love how cats can roll right up into a ball and sleep and wish I could bend like that too.
ReplyDeleteCats seem to be as much liquid as they are solid. Levon- not quite so much.
DeleteThis made me smile. What else can I say but “love Ms. Moon”
ReplyDeleteNothing I write lately seems to call for any sort of response. Sigh.
DeleteThere was so much I could have said! I am SO glad the antidepressants seem to be working. But I‘m sorry. I have to find the bred ile and it’s not on google maps.
DeleteSo many reality programmes on television these days but why don't programme makers realise that "The Moons at Home" would be an enormous hit with the viewing public? Starring Maurice as Maurice.
ReplyDelete"Starring Maurice as Maurice!"
DeleteYeah- that would pull 'em in.
I definitely think we're as interesting as the Kardashians. They just have better clothes, bodies, and lots of plastic surgery.
Gosh, Owen looks great and he sure has grown. Your grandkids are always so happy to be with you, Mary. Lots of love swirling around you.
ReplyDeleteI hope these kiddos like to be around us. I am feeling that our days of that may be limited.
DeleteI think you're allowed to miss answering comments once and awhile. I've been trying to be better about doing it. Cat has been sleeping with me every night, her on one side, Minnie on the other. she has her seasons, fall and winter she sleeps with me and jumps up on the couch to snuggle, spring and summer? nope. can't tempt her.
ReplyDeleteMaurice definitely slept with us the other night because she didn't feel safe with Sophie around. Do you guess that Cat sleeps with you for warmth?
Deletemaybe once it gets cold which it is not now, in fact the fan is on high in my bedroom during the night.
DeleteMaurice looks so comfortable! Levon seems a bit young to be meeting women in the bread aisle, but who am I to say?!
ReplyDeleteWell, better the bread aisle than the beer aisle, I suppose. I love that there was no time frame there or even a clue as to WHICH Publix. We have about twenty five of them.
DeleteGo Levon! “Fearless in the face of carbs” is a fabulous line, I’m stealing it.
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Barbara
Feel free!
DeleteLevon "still fits" AND has a gf! That gave me a little giggle. I hope that the rendezvous in the bred ile goes well.
ReplyDeleteOwen looks as if he's grown since his last blog appearance. I don't believe he will "still fit" even if he bends his legs!
I swear- I think Owen has grown every time I see him, no matter who soon after the last time it was. August seems to be sprouting rather quickly at the moment too.
DeleteGlad you appreciated the bred ile detail. I just thought it was the best.
bet you dimes to dollars your hothouse tomatoes came from Leamington, ON; which is just across the river and about 30 min on the 401 from us <3 xalainaxx
ReplyDeleteIncreased meds are my secret weapon. For election night and the possible ensuing days I've purchased doritos (a nod to Kamala and 2016) and wine. I am not a drinker but I know I and my anxiety will appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteMaurice and Sophie are sizing each other up. Huntress Maurice is no push-over so Sophie must take caution.
ReplyDeleteOwen is one handsome boy. He seems to enjoy hunting and fishing and having his grandfather to share the interest is wonderful.
Levon has a girlfriend! This girl knows what she wants and has made full arrangements for a meetup. In my day, it was the mall, but the bread isle works too.
