Okay. I was wrong. I do not have a new cat. Maurice has gotten into fights with stray cats twice in as many days, both times at night. When we woke up to hear her screaming two nights ago my first thought was, "Maybe Jack's back!"
But no.
She was protecting her territory, I guess. And not only that...
Just a few minutes ago she came over to me asking for me to pet her and I did and then she grabbed my wrist and bit it.
So no. I lied I do not have a new cat, I have the same old crazy cat who is just more relaxed in her surroundings now and is learning new ways to boss us around.

Hank and Rachel are doing their wedding as simply as possible and one of the things they sent out a request for is clear flower vases for the tables, and platters to set cookies out on. Rachel wants a cookie table with lots of different types of cookies and there will be containers for people to take some home with them. I think this is very sweet.
So anyway, Jessie and I thought we'd go to Wag the Dog in Monticello today and have lunch too. The boys were out of school and so they could come along with us. Boppy ended up joining us for lunch and then he had other things to take care of. I got some sweet pictures from lunch.

We were at the Rev and ate outside. It was nice and breezy and cool. In this picture, we are waiting for food and playing Twenty One Questions. August had selected the thing we were trying to identify and is holding his fingers up to keep track of the number of questions that have been asked. We figured out that it was an animal and it was bigger than a house cat and it was domesticated although he was a little iffy about what domesticated meant. It wasn't a dog, it wasn't a cow, it wasn't a pet monkey.
It was a human.
We gave him a round of applause for that.

The Rev has recently put in a small pool table, a fooz-ball game, and a air hockey game. The boys were so happy.
The food was great.
We do eat lunches out a lot, don't we?
That and going to Publix and Costco are pretty much my social life.

Then Jessie and the boys and I went to Wag and I found some clear vases and two platters that were quite reasonable and the boys looked and looked for something worthy of buying but the only thing they found was a fidget spinner. Do you remember fidget spinners? They were a thing some years ago and every kid had one and a few adults too. Levon wanted the one they found today. August found a few things he sort of wanted but not enough to fight his mama when she said, "I don't think I'm going to be buying that today."
She didn't find anything to buy either but I was happy to find the wedding things.

Jessie had some pictures that Vergil's mother had finally been able to send him and they are...unbelievable. The trees down, the rocks in the wrong places, the mudslides. It's a lot. But again, they are safe and they will be fine. It's going to take a lot of work to restore and repair but they will do it.
I've done very little of any use to man nor woman nor beast today although I did do a little ironing but mostly because I wanted to start watching the Netflix documentary film, Will & Harper.
And I did. I have not talked to any of my trans-beloveds about this doc yet and so I can't speak to what any of them think or what ANY trans person would think about it. Will Ferrell's journeys with Harper Steele are just that- their journey together across the country and their journey together as they reconnect as Harper and Will. Just as Will Ferrell is a unique cis-gendered male, Harper is a unique trans woman. But of course, this story will have elements in it that apply to many, many people as they experience what it's like to present as the gender they've always been but have been unable to show, and people who have known and loved these people for many years, often never knowing their true identity.
I'm not that far into it yet but already I've seen some things that I can relate to deeply. And I have to say that both Will Ferrell and Harper Steele are doing a service in making and releasing this film in these times of such rabid trans discrimination. For that, I thank them.
I will still never think that Elf is a good movie though, no matter what.
I will still never think that Elf is a good movie though, no matter what.
And yet, I will admit that perhaps there are many people who will watch this documentary simply out of their adoration of Will Ferrell who absolutely can be one of the funniest people on earth in my opinion. Just definitely not in Elf.
Going to go cook some fish. My Lord but this week has flown by.
Love...Ms. Moon
Those boys are getting so big...
ReplyDeleteEvery day.
DeleteOh Dear, Maurice is having flashbacks. I have thought a lot about the transgender world. I don't know anyone personally, but 3 blogs I follow have teenagers who are. As if raising a teenager were not hair raising enough. My heart goes out to all. And the schools getting involved.
ReplyDeleteI find Will Ferrell annoying in everything. Sorry fans. Carol
My trans child was one of my easiest teenagers, to be honest! Isn't that funny?
DeleteWhat I really like about Will Ferrell is the way he presents himself in public situations and is just totally unafraid to be ridiculous.
I cannot believe it's Friday tomorrow! I will check out Will and Harper. I get on so well with my grandson who used to be granddaughter with whom I had a strained relationship. Now I understand how angry she was.
ReplyDeleteI love that you love your trans grand. I would not expect anything else from you, Joanne.
DeleteLife is not easy. We can only hope that each individual finds their bliss.
ReplyDeleteMaurice seems pretty beat up, poor girl.
She gave you quite a bite. Do you think she dislikes all other cats and regresses when she has to defend herself?
I don't think Maurice is regressing. She's just being who she is. I really believe she hates other cats and refuses to accept their presence anywhere near her territory.
DeleteWill and Harper does sound interesting.....have not heard of it, so thank you! Oh, Maurice you devil you! Guess it's hard for a leopard to become a lamb. I have NO idea how you live in Florida in your heat. Day 3 today of thi s heat wave...106...and probably several more similar days to follow. I'm cranky, slothful, bloated and when my appetite disappears.....we know there is big trouble in bedrock! Running out of *non cooking* option dinners but I'm working on it!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
Our temperatures hardly ever get up into the hundreds for very long at a time. What's your humidity like?
DeleteIs Rachel from Ohio by any chance? Cookie tables are a huge thing at weddings there!
ReplyDeleteShe may have relatives there. I'm not sure.
DeleteThat sounds like a nice wedding. A party, not a theatrical venture!
ReplyDeleteYes! It is definitely going to be a party.
DeleteI love Hank and Rachel's wedding ideas. I wish that I lived closer. I have a ton of clear vases that I will be hauling off to the thrift store at some point, I'm sure. Unless I can find a wedding for them.
ReplyDeleteCats. Honestly, is there anything more fickle than a cat?
Those clear vases that florists use are a dime a dozen. We'll have plenty, I'm sure.
DeleteAre cats fickle or do they just operate on a different mind-space than we do? I have no idea.
I remember Will Ferrell in MASH. This movie looks fun to watch, I'll keep an eye out for it in case it comes to Australian TV. I don't dare start up with Netflix because I know I will never leave my chair if I do.
ReplyDeleteI think it was Mike Ferrell in MASH. Different guys. I just looked him up to see if he might be related to Will but he's not.
DeleteNetflix can suck you in, can't it?
Thanks for letting me know about that documentary. I just looked it up and it is available on Netflix here too (they aren't always). Will have to watch it (but I'd like to punch Will Ferrell in the nose about the women drivers comment)!
ReplyDeleteI think he was said that just to piss her off. They've been friends for many, many years.
DeleteThose boys are wonderful. I’m very impressed with August who didn’t know for sure what domesticated was but chose human as his subject. Genius! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Jessie is beautiful! Good to read about “Will & Harper.” I look forward to seeing it. As for “Elf”...
ReplyDeleteAs for Elf- yeah. NO!
DeleteMostly I like Will Ferrell in real life situations. Can you imagine being his kid? Oh my god.
August was so funny. We asked if his animal was domesticated and he said, "Yes!" And a little while later I asked him if he knew what domesticated meant. "Not really," he said. And if we think about it- ARE humans domesticated? Some would say, "Not really."
Please no bad-mouthing of Elf! That movie gives me joy like you would not believe. I think it's b/c my kids and I watched it together, and it made us laugh. We used to live in NY, and it just brought back memories. Now, I am on my own, they are far away; and I still watch it every Christmas to bring me joy. And I just started Will and Harper. May change some people's minds about our trans community, which can only be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteOh, Elle- I dread Christmas every year. Nothing in this world would put me in the spirit. I've tried! But I know a lot of people really do love that movie.
DeleteFrom your lips to a god's ears on what you said about Will and Harper.
I am with you on Elf, even though I don't think I've ever seen it! We haven't watched "Will and Harper" yet but it's on our list. Wishful thinking about Maurice, I guess!
ReplyDeleteGlen and I tried last year to watch it because it's always on the list of best Christmas movies and it just sucked, sucked, sucked. In our opinions, at least.
DeleteI think you'd like Will and Harper. Two very interesting people at the very least.
Yeah. Just because Maurice started sleeping with us, it doesn't mean she's now a delightfully sweet and gentle cat.
Bad kitty!
ReplyDeleteThe shrimp sized pool table is brilliant ! Skills for later hustling in the pub...
Bad kitty indeed. As we speak she's thinking she's going to come over here where I'm sitting and get me to pet her. She needs to think again.
DeletePoor Maurice, her poor, battered face.
ReplyDeleteI used to work with a trans woman and one of my coworkers has a trans son. At first it was interesting, but that's not really the word I want, but then they were just themselves. I find it so funny that republicans are so worried that trans women are using women's bathrooms. I feel much safer with a trans woman than I ever would with a republican.
What I like so much about Will Ferrell is that he feels safe enough to make a complete fool of himself. That takes guts.
I rarely comment, but I just had to this morning. I adore your blog, Ms Moon - and have for awhile now. You a lovely human being, with the added bonus of receiving some of my very favorite comments. Pixie, you have made me laugh out loud twice in the past few days!! Many thanks for the smiles, y’all! Believe me, it is greatly appreciated here in southern AZ.
DeletePixie- yes, Maurice looks like she got in a bar fight. I wonder what the other guy looks like.
DeleteI know exactly what you mean about being around a trans person at the very beginning and then getting to know them. But I tell you something- I've known trans folks whom no one would have imagined started out as a different gender.
Also? You are exactly right about Will Ferrell. He will do anything to get a laugh and doesn't give a damn about what anyone thinks.
Sandy- Hello! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate that. Sounds like you fit into our blog community quite well. Happy to have you here.
DeleteI have never cared for Will Ferrell's comedy but I saw him in a rare, and maybe only, dramatic movie once and he was awesome. his comedy is wasted talent to me but I think I would definitely love this. Will is funny when he's being himself, I just don't care for his over the top comedic acting.
ReplyDeleteand Cat will swipe at me when I stop petting and scratching her and she's not ready for me to stop. she got me a good one yesterday.
I'm with you on Will's comedic acting. I think you'd like Will and Harper.
DeleteDang cats. They're so fast!
I'm so surprised when Maurice is mean to you! You are so loving to your pets.
ReplyDeleteThat's a sweet idea for a wedding and it sounds like it will be such a wonderful day for all involved.
I will look for that movie on Netflix. Sounds interesting...
There's a reason the grandkids call Maurice "Scratch." Remember when August told me I should get rid of her?
DeleteYou and I agree on Elf, but I have come to respect Will Farrell. I'll need to look for this film.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Levon's face as he lines up his pool shot is priceless! And I confess, I was a bit skeptical when you said you had a new cat. Cats are just who they are, aren't they? And Maurice is a scrapper. Who loves you. And just might be the boss of you.
