Change In Plans

Darling Rachel took that picture of the second the Kraken children were released to go look for eggs. And no, that is not a park. At the almost last minute I offered my house because the park thing was iffy, not even knowing if it was open or if annoying people would be there or if we would annoy nice people who were there and there aren't a whole lot tables there and we all know the logistics and working of my house and kitchen and bathrooms and yard so everyone agreed that if it wasn't too much on me, that would be nice.

And then before you knew it, this had happened.

Again.
Rachel had gone to a work party earlier in the week where a whole lot of charcuterie foods had gone unopened so she brought those, of course, and Lauren is the Queen of Charcuterie and there you go. Besides all of those foods there was a very nice baby lettuce and fruit salad that Jessie had made and a tabouli salad that May had made and my ham and bread and the Costco family pack of sliced cheese and the deviled eggs, etc. And Lauren made ambrosia and Lily made two types of potato salad and they were both awesome.

So we ate outside in a casual manner. I set out a quilt for the kiddos.

Maggie decided to eat in the house where she would be more comfortable. Here she is with her princess fairy doll.

I believe her name is Charlotte.

Before lunch there was some kitchen dancing.

Rachel took that picture.

And then after lunch, there was a little massage therapy.

The kids were a rowdy pack of feral beast children, as usual. They were playing cops and robbers and I'm not sure what the rules were but a great deal of screaming and running through the house and the yard seemed to be involved. At some points, the kids lost track of who were cops and who were robbers but that did not seem to be a problem or hinder their joy in the least. Owen was a fantastic big brother and kept everything at least moderately under control.

In short, it was the best Easter of the year, as we all agreed.

I was especially happy to get to spend time with May as we all know how rare that is. When they left, her work had called and there was a problem and I would not be in the least surprised if she got back to town, changed her clothes, and went in to take the shift of someone who did not show up.
On Easter Sunday.
That woman is way too responsible. But she is the manager and she takes that seriously and she should be making at least a hundred thousand dollars a year. I swear.

And to top it all off, the Weatherfords are staying for a slumber party! There's a Duke basketball game and Vergil went to Duke and Glen loves basketball and so now they're all in the Glen Den eating wings and carrot sticks and cantaloupe and I don't know what all. Adults are drinking adult beverages and the birds are SO happy because we've finally gotten out of their feeding area. I was sitting under the magnolia tree earlier and a cardinal pooped on my arm. Probably to display his displeasure in our presence. I swear to you- I believe that is the first time I've ever been pooped on by a bird. Well, a wild bird. When I was a child we had a parakeet who pooped on me all the time.

Well, not our regular Sunday. But a good one.
Funny how there was no talk of Our Savior rolling away the stone at all. I do believe that Zombie Jesus was mentioned several times. We are not quite Pagans but I suppose we are definitely heathens. And as I heard Vergil say to one of his boys when we were talking about Easter eggs- "Very appropriate as we are celebrating fertility."
I think that's what he said.

I may not be a shining star in the eyes of our Lord Jesus Christ but when it comes to fertility- I have done my job and have a place in the firmament. Or so I tell myself.

Happy Eostre, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. what better to be able to have a picnic with clean bathrooms!!! here's what we pondered at dinner? why don't they make chocolate pigs for Easter since everyone eats ham???? Or, conversely, shouldn't we all be eating rabbit for dinner????? xxalainaxx

I think your chocolate pigs idea is a good one for sure.

    2. Ham is Christmas food here in Australia.

    3. A lot of people here eat ham at Christmas too. I asked Jessie if she thought I should freeze the rest of our Easter ham and save it for Christmas.

  2. what a glorious, fun filled (and chaotic no doubt) day! Lovely to see most of your family in pics! And that charcuterie board with the rose salami must have been the work of Rachel OR Lauren.......lovely, all of it! And your fun continues with a sleepover! Yikes! You will sleep well! I just popped my 2 lbs. turkey/beef meatloaf in oven.....have mashed potatoes in process and will roast asparagus......and that will be our *celebration for two* dinner!
    Sleep well and enjoy!

    1. Definitely chaotic. And yes, I think that was Rachel who made the salami rose.
I bet your supper was very good.

  3. What a joy to have Owen fall in as the big brother. I can understand that tending a load of children would not interest a teen, but he is so sensible and level headed. And what a joy to see May's lovely face. Glad you had a happy day, all around.

    1. I sometimes look at my Owen and wonder if he'd doing an Eddie Haskell. He's SO sweet and caring. "Let me do that for you, Mer," he'll say. I don't think he's faking it. Not really. I am so very proud of him.
Wasn't it nice to see May? It was for me.

    1. I like that shirt of Hank's too. It's almost as blue as his eyes.
Indeed! Maggie had no desire to sweat. A little while later she changed out of her dress and borrowed an old t-shirt of mine. She felt much better.
Sophie was pretty good. She got a lot of treats.
It was a pretty day for sure.

  6. Your family knows how to gather and enjoy time together. Your photos show lots of great smiles. The Easter egg hunt looks like it was a big hit for the children. What a fabulous buffet table. Festive and bountiful. Perfection!

    1. There's so little pressure on Easter gatherings. No presents, no big food presentations- just relaxing and fun.

  11. That is exactly my kind of party - spontaneous, pot luck and everyone ends up having a wonderful time. Oh, and where I'm from, having a bird poop on you means good luck (although my mom didn't quite see it that way when the bird poop ran down her forehead, behind her glasses and into her eyes)!

    1. My opinion about that bird-pooping-on-you-meaning-good-luck thing is that someone made it up to make someone who got pooped on feel better about the situation.

  12. Maggie being her individual self! What a feast you guys lay on! I instantly focussed on the deviled eggs. Happy April to you all.

    1. The deviled eggs were so darn good that when I made myself a late supper I had to get two of the dyed eggs out of the refrigerator and make myself two more of them. They're always the first thing to go at gatherings.

  13. Sounds like a fun day. We enjoyed our feast also and my friend brought bubbles for the boys and we all played bingo for prizes. Lots of laughs! I pooped today and will take it easy after I put everything away!

Glad you had a good feast and bubbles too.

    2. Oh Lord, I should check my comment before I hit "publish"! I meant I felt tired! and my comment had nothing to do with my pooping! LOL!

  14. Well, that sounds like a fabulous Easter. The kitchen dancing! Fantastic! I'm so glad May got to come. It's funny how kids can make up their own games and their own rules and things just evolve as they play. They're so flexible. (Psychologically I mean, though I suppose physically too.)

    1. Physically too, for sure! And yes- I do love that the kids can put away screens and just PLAY these wildly imaginative and active games. It's reassuring.

  15. I'm not a bit surprised that the picnic happened at your house. of course it did. celebrating fertility, yes! and spring and burgeoning life. the goddess still reigns no matter how hard christianity has tried to subvert her.

    1. Did any of us doubt that it would end up at my house?
The Spring Goddess WILL always reign because her handiwork is as plain as the newborn lambs in the field and the budding branches all around us whereas Jesus...well, the evidence to support his resurrection and being beamed up to heaven is a little shaky, at best.
