Let's Go Crazy (Don't Try This At Home Without Consulting Your Doctor First)

Want to know what I did today? I will tell you.
I did an entire year's worth of shopping.
That of course is not entirely true. But it is true that I did more shopping today than I have done in over a year. It was rather unbelievable.

I was going to meet Liz of the West for lunch and we were excited. But her mama got sprung from the rehab where she's been since she broke her leg and Liz had to go get her up in Georgia and bring her back to tend her so there went the lunch plan. But I was already planning to get some shopping done today and so I went into town. I have been pining after a new rug for my bathroom. I have looked and looked online but it's just so hard to buy a rug online. I wanted one with colors but not psychedelic or florescent. Jessie had mentioned that Home Goods had a lot of rugs so I got on the interstate and took the exit that dumped me out on that side of town and went to Home Goods where I did indeed find a rug. I'm not sure at all that it's going to end up in my bathroom but I like it and it will end up somewhere in the house.
When Mr. Moon heard I was going to look for a rug he asked for one to go in the laundry room to cover up a stain.
"That is not a priority for me," I said. But it was for him. I didn't see any other rugs at Home Goods that I thought would fit there so I bought the one rug and left.
The Dollar Store was right near in the same strip mall so I went there to look for Easter stuff for the kids but I was just grossed out and left. Then I decided to go into the giant shoe store right down the way to look for another pair of shoes. So I did. I didn't find any I wanted. On the way back to my car I stopped in at the Fresh Market which is sort of like Whole Foods but not really. The groceries in this store are lit like emeralds in a jeweler's window or Rembrandts in an art museum so it's quite an experience. I got two types of paprika there. That was all. So I'd been in four stores, bought a rug and two jars of spices. Organic spices, I'll have you know.

I got back on the road and went to a nursery for some rattlesnake bean seeds. I did not wander about. I went to where they sold the seeds, I bought the seeds, I gave the vegetables plants a quick perusal and then I left.

Next stop was Tuesday Morning to look for the laundry room rug and possibly some Easter stuff there. Found a rug, no Easter stuff, and also bought a canister for all purpose flour as bread flour fills the one I have. And four dish rags.
Joanne's was next door. Surely they would have Easter stuff.
Not so much.
I did buy four yards of a nice cotton fabric and five little sequined stuffed animals which have nothing to do with Easter but then again, neither do chicks and bunnies so screw it. Who doesn't want a sequined Easter dragon? Also a spool of pink thread and a spool of black thread. At this point, it was 2:30 and I hadn't eaten lunch so I called a Cuban restaurant and ordered a Cuban sandwich to go. Drove across town to where that was, picked it up, sat in my car and ate all of it and now I will never have to eat again.

That place shares a parking lot with a Walgreens and I went in there and bought Easter bubbles (they're in pastel colors so that makes them Eastery) and five Reeses Easter eggs and the sleep aid that Mr. Moon likes.

Back in the car and on to Costco which took me about fifteen minutes because I only needed a few things and did not get distracted. By that time I was dragging and still had to go to Publix.
Which I did.
I got that done in record time and then drove home, unloaded everything, put it all away, and now I am so tired I can't even think properly. But if I am doing the math correctly I went to ten different establishments which meant that I had to have had at least ten different encounters with people (although not really at the shoe store or Dollar Store) and I can't believe I did that. I only dissociated about three times which is excellent and I did not get caught up walking down aisles and checking all the shit out just in case there was something I desperately needed without knowing it. I got in, and got out. I did expend a lot of psychic energy worrying about the kids' Easter things but they aren't going to care what I give them and so it doesn't really matter.

I may spend most of tomorrow in bed.

Also, I did not take one picture. I thought about it at the nursery because everything was so pretty (it's been the most beautiful day here) but I WAS ON A MISSION AND DID NOT STOP FOR FRIVOLOUS PHOTO TAKING!

A year's worth of shopping in one day. It was strange, it was odd, it was disconcerting, and it was not horrible. It wasn't much fun, either. At no point did I think, "Ooh boy! I have missed this shopping thing! What fun I am having now!"
No. I did not.

We shall be eating delicious leftovers tonight and I will be sleeping under the duck once again.
I can't wait for that. THAT'S when I will think, "Oh, yes. I am having fun now." And I will mean it with all of my heart.

Be well my friends.

Love...Ms. Moon

  2. That's more stops than I make in a year, even without a pandemic! I'm amazed. And tired just reading it.

  3. Yes, same here. As my niece once said, too much walk, walk, walk.
On the other hand, well done, you.

    1. Eh, I didn't really do that much walking but I feel an inordinate sense of pride that I got it all done!

  4. Isn’t it glorious to shop in person again! Tuesday morning was my first post vaccine shopping too. I love that store and home goods. I’m envious of your ability to not get distracted and just get it done.

    1. It really wasn't glorious for me. I haven't enjoyed shopping in person in years. Tuesday Morning was sort of a wreck and there were employees just standing around chatting. Not sure what was going on there. Empty shelves too. Home Goods had a lot of people in it and the aisles are tiny which made it pretty unpleasant. Maybe it'll all be better when you go.

  5. I did a similar trek to Annapolis (largest town near me) a week ago. Went in and out of three stores (including--as you say--a specially lit Fresh Market for a few things). Fortunately, not many people around in any of them, all masked, but not much enjoyment for me either. Could have gone to other stores, but just couldn't summon up the energy. Can't see myself repeating the trip (hour drive each way from home) anytime soon.

    1. Home Goods was the most crowded place I went in. And at least one woman had her mask down below her mouth. I wanted to yell at her because that place is so crowded anyway. But I did not. I just went the other way. I found myself doing that a lot to avoid people, masked or not.

    1. You're so right about that Ellen and I thought about it while I was out doing it- I never shop like that. But I just wanted to GET IT ALL DONE. I hope you and Robin have had a good time.

  7. It does sound like a tiring day so I'm sure you slept well last night. I decided to try making some biscuits this morning with a recipe you had put on here, or the link anyway. The little guy woke up 3:30am and stayed up with the little guy. I slept until 5am and now he's gone back to sleep. I just want to have a normal night again:)

    Have a lovely day.

    1. I didn't wake up until almost 9:30! But I did stay up until after midnight so...
I do not know how you're managing your life with such interrupted sleep. That's SO hard, woman.

  8. That is shopping on a mission. In and out with no dawdling and browsing! No wonder you were tired! But you are ready for Easter and should relax now! Good for you!

  10. Gosh I'm exhausted just reading that. I've always said I could never have been a mail carrier because I absolutely hate getting in and out of cars all the time, but you sound like you had it down to a fine art!

  11. I went out shopping the other day and called it my virginal shopping trip because it was, quite honestly, the first time I'd been to that many stores in over a year. If there's one good thing about the quarantine it's that it seems to have cured me of mindless shopping. I'm glad you're done for the year!

    1. Yes m'am. We can now look at mindless shopping with new eyes. Phew! I so often felt like I SHOULD be shopping. WHY?
I'm over it. For a year. Yes.

  12. I bet you were fully exhausted, physically and psychically, when you climbed under the duck, and that it was a delicious feeling to drift into that pleasantly exhausted sleep.
