Vaccine #2

We got up this morning when it was still gray outside, the birds still quiet. We slowly got ready to go to Monticello and we allowed enough time that we were there early and were waiting in the car for our appointment time to go in and the lady in charge at the health department came out and asked us if we had an appointment. We told her we did and she asked what time and we said, "Nine," and she said, "Come on in. We're ready."

The whole experience was just as slick and easy as it was the first time. We got scanned for temperatures, each got our own nurse, went into separate cubicles, a few questions were asked, a few things written down, a paper was signed, we got our shots. Then we were directed out to the lobby, given a piece of paper indicating what time we could leave the parking lot after waiting the requisite fifteen minutes to see if we had an immediate adverse reaction, and then off we went. We came home and I made us breakfast burritos, Mr. Moon got ready and went into work, and I have mostly done nothing.
I feel fine-ish, just very tired and my arm aches. I managed to clean out the hen house and do some laundry and finish a mask but that was stretched across the whole afternoon.
An episode of Call the Midwife was watched but I sat on the sofa, not in THE CHAIR because I would have fallen asleep. Which would have been fine, I'm sure, but I think I'd just rather go to bed early tonight.
Someone forgot to get chicken potpies yesterday but that's all right. He did offer to pick some up when he was in town but I'd already started dinner. An easy, easy dinner. A little pork loin from one of the wild pigs is marinating and will go in the oven along with some sweet potatoes, and I have a combination of collards, mustards, and cabbage leaves simmering on the stove with leeks and tomatoes.
Life is good.

That picture above of Maurice was taken yesterday afternoon when I was checking for eggs. I love the way she looks like a little tiger model, her paw just-so as if for a shot on the runway, her eyes slitted against the sun.

I got eleven eggs today out of fourteen hens including another (this makes three) that I think Violet is laying. I could be wrong.

The sky had all the blue today, tomorrow it will have all the gray again. It's supposed to rain from 4 a.m. on. But it will be warmer. When we drove to Monticello the fields were white with frost which, as you can imagine, is fairly unusual around here. By the time we drove home, they were back to being green and yellow, handsome black cows grazing against the rising sun.

All is well.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Thought of you today and was hoping you would both do well with #2! I hope you sleep well tonight and feel perfect tomorrow! Your dinner sounds much better than a pot pie....but I admit that I have loved them on the very rare occaision I've eaten them. Model Maurice is definitely strutting her stuff there in the sun! Silly girl
Sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed tomorrow!

  4. Not safe yet ... continue to wear your masks because there will be too many who refuse to get the vaccine ... don't take chances with you and your hubby and those grandkids!

    1. Oh, don't worry. We'll still be wearing masks. I have made three now of a very good pattern that we like a lot. New masks! So exciting!

    1. Oh, honey. Expect not to get much done for a day or two after you get your second. But that may not be true for you. Are you distance teaching?

  6. What a lovely day for you both! I'm very glad you're finished with the series and looking okay, too. Do continue to mask, though! it will be a while before that becomes unnecessary.

I continue to search for appointments. Nothing at all. Even beyond a 25 mile radius, through one of the pharmacy chains, nothing. And even a round trip of 50 plus miles, in NJ, in winter, plus a shot in the middle of it and a wait, is more than I can possibly do. So I wait, shelter, breathe, try to practice patience...

Which doesn't stop me from being glad for people who have got the vaccine. The more of you, the safer for all of us. And J and J have now applied for emergency use of their new one shot vaccine, even better. They're just up the street from me, but I don't think that will put me any nearer in line!

    1. What? You can't just go walk up and knock on the door and ask them for a vaccine? That's not right!
      Ha.
Yes. We will still mask. And you are so right- every one of us who gets vaccinated will help with the spread. I hope you get yours sooner rather than later.

  10. Congratulations! My Mike (78 years old) received his second shot this afternoon; went to bed early. (My first shot is scheduled for May 12, in a town 50 miles away...). Extreme hygiene continues in the O'Brien household.

  11. Glad it went well. It is so helpful to hear about your experience so I won't be frightened when it is my turn.
Dinner sounds yummy! See you tomorrow!

  12. Good to hear your second shot went well. Hoping you had no other issues overnight. No idea when I'll get my first one even though I entered my eighth decade last year...our state hasn't done a stellar job of working out the details, despite what the governor's glowing press releases say. Ah well. Not going anywhere anytime soon, but sure would love to plan a trip.

    1. Mr. Moon is thinking that in two weeks we could take a trip and I'm like, "Hold on there, boy! Not yet."
I hope you get yours soon.

  13. Again, me too Mary. There are two locations for UTSW, last time i was right on campus but this time my appointment was down the road a few blocks at what is called Market Hall, some kind of public venue that has been converted to vaccinations. The line was very long but it moved well and the whole things was well organized.
No side effects, slightly sore arm like before, couple of days that will pass. Now on the horizon somewhere, few more months maybe, is a day I won't have to worry about where I put the mask.
    :)
    Have a great day...

    1. It is reassuring to know that we are not going to be nearly as vulnerable, isn't it? I'm still having a hard time processing that though.

    1. I should have stayed in bed today but I didn't. Mr. Moon has been in his chair for most of the day. He had a rough night.
