Believe It

CAN YOU FREAKING BELIEVE IT?
Did you see Pete Seegar about to take off straight to heaven, his banjo in his hand, singing This Land Is Your Land?
Did you see that?
Do you see that beautiful couple? Do you see that intelligent man?
HE'S ABOUT TO BE OUR PRESIDENT!
Do you see that smart, gorgeous woman?
SHE'S ABOUT TO BE OUR FIRST LADY!
Within hours. Hours.
George W. Bush and his reign of terror will be ended. We can all show our faces in the world again. We can all feel pride in our country from the redwood forests to the gulf stream waters.
Purple mountains majesty above our fruited plain.

Yeah, yeah, I'm going overboard here.
I can't help it.
I can't freaking believe it.
Fourteen hours.
Let's all have sweet dreams tonight. Every one of us. From California to the New York Island.
Let's all wake up with a smile on our faces and watch history being made and then let's roll up our sleeves.
There's work to do and finally, a leader who will inspire us to do it.

I can't believe it.

  7. Oh, these burdens shall be lifted, this pain shall heal, and hope shall endure.

Imagine how many pickpockets scored big loot today!

  8. AND I WAS THERE!! THERE TO WATCH THE INAUGURATION! There to wrap my arms around a young black woman who started sobbing when Aretha sang. There to hand out tissues and yell and clap and dance in the streets. I will never forget this day. Never.

  10. It was a great day watching it on television. I can't even imagine what it would have been like taking it all in on the streets of D.C. Would've blown my mind, probably.

  12. As an Irishwoman I am so envious of you Americans this week - what a fantastic leader you now have. I almost cried watching the inauguration, I could only imagine the pride and joy of all Americans.

    Congratulations

  13. Lorna- thanks for the comment. It's good to know that if nothing else, the whole world looks at the US with a little less distaste now.
