Had a walk and am washing clothes and now I'm going to get out and do some much needed yard trimming. Later I'll be making venison chili and doing some ironing.
Owen asked me last week what I'm going to do when I retire.
The question was beyond my ability to answer.
If I had my choice about how I want to die, I'd keel over in my garden, dead before I hit the ground.
Sadly, we don't get a choice in that matter unless we take things into our own hands and I'm not ready to contemplate that. So I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing albeit more slowly every year, and see what happens.
Maybe when I retire I'll get a job shucking oysters.
Hahaha!
Love...Ms. Moon
There was a woman near where I live that did decide to take her own life. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lived a good and decent life for some time. But as she says, "***
ReplyDeleteEvery day I lose bits of myself, and it's obvious that I am heading towards the state that all dementia patients eventually get to: not knowing who I am and requiring full-time care. I know as I write these words that within six months or nine months or twelve months, I, Gillian, will no longer be here. What is to be done with my carcass? It will be physically alive but there will be no one inside."
So she decided to end her life. She brought her children the week before and said goodbye. On the day of her death she and her husband brought a mattress out to her property and she took a lethal dose of pills and died while looking out at the ocean, her husband beside her.
If you have the time, she wrote a letter and it was published the day she died.

What an amazing story. I admire that woman and I respect her choice with all of my heart.
DeleteA week after my mother died, a cousin's 80-something year old mother died like that - just fell down dead on the way to the bathroom with her. I have to confess, when I heard the story I was sort of... jealous.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your feeling. Yes. Wouldn't we all just want to go that quickly?
DeleteI suspect Owen is going to be a reporter. He is very curious about all things. Or a writer. He is studying his world. I actually love that you couldn't answer that question.
ReplyDeleteOnly time will tell. But he certainly IS curious. I hope he always is.
DeleteAnd wow, Birdie. That's an amazing story. What agency and courage.
ReplyDeleteI made venison chili last night, too.
