It has been a truly good day. One of those rare days where I haven't felt stressed or anxious or guilty or overly depressed. It has been so wonderful. I have no idea why I wake up like that now and again but I do and I am so grateful for these days when they come, seemingly out of nowhere.
Nothing special happened at all. It was cold this morning but so sunny and the way the camellias are decorating the back yard right now with the pinks and the reds and the whites is simply joyful. Add in the purple Japanese magnolias and it's a little bit of heaven in that early morning light.
I fooled around reading blogs and some news (not very much though) and doing a crossword puzzle and all the things I do in the mornings. Jessie and I had talked about going to Open Studio at pottery which is time when if you're taking a class, you can go in and work on your own. We have not taken much advantage of that. It always seems so very far away from Lloyd although it's not, really. And Jessie gets busy with her life and kids and work and...well, you know. But we were going to meet there today and I wanted to go by Publix before I went and then I had to pick up my bio-identical hormones which is very near the community center and it was pretty late by the time I got there. I walked into the studio and it was packed with people, all looking extremely serious and industrious.
I was, of course, a little tiny bit overwhelmed. But not too bad!
I went looking to see if the wavy bowl I'd glazed Tuesday had come out of the kiln and it had and although the bowl's not bad the glaze on the inside is what I can only describe as "nasty" and how I managed to combine two colors that I absolutely hate is beyond me.
Shrimp and Grits, YUM. And that bowl is perfect for a little pot pie.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking so too. Or a little fruit crumble?
DeleteI really like your new rug. Do you use that fireplace? Very cozy looking in there. I love grits. I must have been a 'southern gentleman' (I use that loosely) in another life. I like the dish. It's an original, one of a kind and be proud of it. I'd eat grits out of it any day!
ReplyDeleteParanormal John
All the fireplaces in the house have been converted to gas logs but not all of them work. They are quite old. I think that one in the library is a non-working one.
DeleteThat dish can be a grits bowl! I think you very well could be a southern gentlemen.
The dish is lovely, wavy like a skirt, perfect for a pot pie. The blue outside kind of balances the yellow inside and I bet the look grows on you with time. Your grands are going to love lounging on that rug, it makes the room very inviting. I’m glad you woke up to one of those all around good days and I like to imagine you capping it off with those Friday night martinis.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a nice Friday.
DeleteI'm a little worried that the rug is too busy for the library. I'm trying to figure this out.
That's a very nice rug. I like your wavy bowl, inside and out. I'm glad you had a good day and hope you have many more.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope you have many good days, too, River.
DeleteI love the rug and the bowl. And I love chicken pot pies. And oh how I love your house.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the rug has too much going on? That it takes away from the serenity of the library? I'm not sure.
DeleteThank you for loving my house. You know how I feel about it.
Jerry would think so. I grew up with Oriental rugs and love what they do to a room. Also, the colors of yours are subtle and complement the beautiful fireplace.
DeleteI've noticed that your apartment is very clean in line and design. Obviously, that is not how I do it but I respect that type of home and its sense of restfulness. I think a REAL Oriental rug in there would be better than this cheap imitation. They generally have large spaces that have no designs on them at all.
DeleteEr...am I the only one who thinks that your wavy dish matches the room with its new rug by the way?
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see what you mean but in real life, the dish doesn't really match up so much with the colors in the library.
DeleteLove the bowl and the new rug. I also love shrimp but have never had grits, what are they? They don’t have them up here unless they are called something else. Gigi
ReplyDeleteGrits are ground roasted corn. They can be ground very fine or very course, which affects how long they need to cook. They make a sort of hot cereal like oatmeal or cream of wheat. If you've ever had polenta, that is similar.
DeleteHappy Friday to you, Ms. Moon
ReplyDeleteAnd to you, Diaday.
DeleteGlad you had such a good day and I hope you have lots more, Mary!
ReplyDeleteNice dish and pretty rug!
Let's not beat around the bush about that dish. It's...sort of hideous.
DeleteYeah, not my favorite colors on the inside but the actual speckling is nice. Seems kind of shallow for a pot pie but would make a nice little catch-all. Nice rug too. I took up all my small area rugs except for the one in Mars's bedroom because they were a pain in the butt to vacuum all the cat and dog hair off of. But the floors re cold in the winter. I made tostados for dinner last night.
ReplyDeleteRugs can be quite practical when it comes to protecting floors and keeping feet warm but they definitely are pet hair traps. Last time I ran the roomba, I could have made a whole other cat from all the hair I got.
DeleteWe finally glazed on Wednesday and I didn't like it all. It was hard to do and as you said, all the colours are off. It's like trying to paint something blind. I wonder how my stuff will turn out. Guess I'll see.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely martini last night. I actually had a glass wine and relaxed. I should do it more often:)
What kind of glazing did you do? Did you paint or dip? I haven't done any dip glazing. Glazing really does change the piece into a whole new thing.
DeleteYes- a nice glass of wine every now and then does not hurt in the least.
I dipped my stuff. I guess we'll see how it turns out:)
DeleteThe new rug looks great! And actually, I like the color combo on the bowl.
