Everyone's On The Water But Me And That Is Okay

It would appear that today's fishing has gone quite well. I am glad for the guys on the boat because- well, you go fishing to catch fish. There have been trips when the guys had to remind themselves that "fishing" is not always "catching" and a pretty good time was had by all anyway, but let's be honest. They are out there to catch fish.
Those are snappers and some of the best eating fish in the world. There are an infinite number of ways to cook snapper and I know some good ones but the best snapper I ever ate was at a place on the beach in Cozumel called Chin Rio.

And fish comes cooked and served like this.

This Florida girl weeps when she eats that fried snapper. And probably the main reason it's such good fish is...

These are fishing boats. Which beach right next to the restaurant. If you'd like to read the post I wrote from which these pictures came from, you can go HERE.

I didn't do shit today. Well, I went to town and got my shopping done which takes all of my energy if we're talking about emotional energy but besides that, nothing. Today was Hank's beach birthday gathering but I just could not get myself in the right frame of mood to go. I should have but honestly, I simply could not. I called Hank this morning and told him and he wasn't upset. I also told him that I had just been thinking about how when he was born and only a few days old I would hold him and rock him and tell him that I loved him so much that I would do anything in this world for him that he wanted if I possibly could. I would bring him the moon and stars! And now, here I was, not even going to the BEACH for him.
He laughed and laughed, that real Hank laugh that makes me so happy. Here's a picture that Rachel texted us all of a group of the attendees in the surf. Some of my favorite people in the world.

And here are a few grandchildren.

I think a good time was had by all.

I wish I could say I had a good time in town but you know I didn't. I was going to take myself to lunch at the new Del Taco because a friend of mine who lives far away loves Del Taco, and also, on Grace and Frankie, Frankie (Lily Tomlin) is constantly mentioning and going to Del Taco and so when the metropolis of Tallahassee finally got one, I knew I had to try it. So I drove all the way there and it was so packed that I just got the hell away and went to another place down the road where I got a turkey Reuben because I've been craving a Reuben and the turkey sucked. I should have just gotten a real one with the corned beef. I mean- who am I kidding here?

And then to Publix where I could not find the canning supplies and I asked two different employees and both sent me to the same place in the store which does not have canning supplies on the shelves but suntan lotions and potions. I just gave it up. I am going to need more jars and lids because the cucumbers are starting to come on and by golly, I am going to make some damn pickles and also, I want to make dilly beans.
I then went to Costco, of course, and I now know why I don't shop on Saturdays. The best thing about that experience was that I saw Brenda and got one of her fabulous hugs.

Lastly, I want to show you some of the phlox that's growing in my yard. I transplanted some of the plants from the last place I lived. My neighbor there gave me some of hers and they are very happy in Lloyd.

They are just starting to bloom and in a week or so, my entire yard will be a cloud of pink.

And last, but not least, this cherry tomato is now co-mingling with the rattlesnake beans.

I do like a good inter-species friendship.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Sorry you weren't up to the party, but oh well. The fisher folk caught a real haul. I don't think I've ever had red snapper. But I do love fish, mainly cold saltwater though, what I grew up on.

    1. Like cod, I'm guessing? I think we all probably love what we ate as children. Red snapper is a very good fish though. You might like it.

  2. You might want to check the GDDG. Ours carries canning supplies in season (we're not quite there yet).

    1. Yes, but they're some off-brand I've never heard of. I guess they'd be okay but canning is so much of a process that I don't want it to fail due to inferior jars and lids. Do you have experience with the brand they carry?

    2. The brand that they carry here (if memory serves) is Golden Harvest. I've never had a problem with them, but I went to do some research. They are made by a company called Newel, and this is the same company that produces the canning jars for Ball, Mason and Kerr as well. I thought that was interesting. I just assumed that these brands were made by their own company.

  3. I would love to be building sand castles with Maggie! and dipping into the ocean when I got too warm.
Those are the tallest phlox I have ever seen.
Right now my playlist is playing Jumping Jack Flash which is appropriate because I am at the blog of a Stones fan.
    The caught fish look great.

    1. Maggie in the sand...
      I love it.
Did you know that Jumping Jack Flash was written by Keith and Mick at Keith's house and when they were doing the words, the gardener walked by the window. "Who's that?" Mick asked. "Oh, that's Jack, the gardener," and next thing you know- Jumping Jack Flash came to be.

  4. So proud of the cherry tomatoes and rattlesnake beans. A lesson for us all. I want to build sand castles! I suppose I could just go across the street but it would be so much more fun with your family. I love snapper but I don’t like seeing the whole fish on my plate.

    1. When Two Vines Meet!
I have been meaning to ask you if you ever swim in the ocean.
My family would love to build sand castles with you, Mitchell. Any time.
Yes. The head can be off-putting but at least the eyes have been removed.

    2. I haven’t been in the water for years. There’s quite a drop off at the shore as you enter and exit and my sciatica made managing that impossible. No more sciatica, so maybe this summer!

  5. Your phlox is fabulous, when we were kids, we would suck the blossoms and pretend it was a magic potion.
Red snapper is truly a magnificent fish. When we lived in Africa it was the and probably still is the topnotch catch, the local name for it is bourgeoise which says it all.

  7. You did what you wanted to do today and that's a good thing. After all of those years of chasing after my children and taking care of everybody, it's good to have days where I only need to be with me. I do feel guilty about it some times, tho...

  8. I'm not a fan of seafood, I grew up on the Prairies, but if I am going to eat fish, it must be cut up and deep fried. I couldn't eat a fish with a head on it, too real for me.
I'm glad Hank had a good day and he knows you love him.

    1. Cut up and deep-fried is a fine way to eat fish! I'm sorry you never developed a taste for fish though. It can certainly add to the menu.
Hank does know I love him.

  9. PS: Also glad Mr. M did not go swimming because honestly, I don't think yesterday was the day for it in your neck of the ocean.

  10. the only thing that did halfway decent in my garden this year were the green beans and the tomatoes. out of 3 cucumber plants only one grew and it blooms mostly boy flowers and the few and I mean maybe 3 cucumbers that set turned yellow and fell off. squash and peppers have been big zeros.

my phlox you sent me have not even thought about shooting up yet or forming buds, much less blooming. mine always bloom so much later than yours. same plants, same roots. go figure.

    1. We are still yet to see if the tomatoes can keep the promise they seem to be making. All of the cucumbers I've gotten so far have come from two little vines that Glen just decided to plant in one of the bags. Those little things are prolific! I've got more vines blooming like crazy now though. We shall see what happens...
I wonder why our phlox have such different blooming calendars. Weird.

  11. There is nothing better than a piece of freshly caught fish cooked to perfection. Your Snapper lunch looks delicious. The beach B-day party sounds wonderful, the sunshine, sea and white sands make a lovely day. It appears Mr. Moon is ensuring your freezer will be filled with freshly caught fish. Fresh veggies and fish are perfection.

  12. I would not have thought Publix even sells canning supplies. I thought that was a hardware store kind of thing. (Or maybe Target?) I know we used to sell them at Scotty's!

    1. Oh yes. Publix sells canning jars and lids and also things like pectin that some people use in making jams.
I remember Scotty's. There was one in Winter Haven.
