Staying Busy

This is what today has looked like. Rain on and off, and trucks in the yard with spray-washing equipment. It has been a good distraction for me, staying busy with mopping up water that got in through doors and washing the towels I used to mop with.

The day started out with me talking to the guy who owns the spray washing business in the backyard and in the time it took for yellow flies to make my foot like like this

I had learned all about this three daughters including the complex disabilities of his oldest daughter, seen a video of her (she's adorable and smart as a whip), heard about his mother's illness and her last moments. Also, the rotten luck he's had this year with equipment breaking down. It wasn't the kind of conversation you can say, "Oh, excuse me but I think I need to go inside because insects are possibly killing me."
You know?
What a sweet guy. I'm so glad we hired him. Here's his employee, spraying our back porch.

And oh my god- the difference it has made. It's rather unbelievable. Here are some before and after pictures.

The guy did the table for me too. It needed it.

It really is shocking how gorgeous it all looks. Yes, it needs painting. Some woodwork is required. But I swear to you- it is one thousand percent better.

I washed my porch hanging stuff.

I even did the best I could with the faded old Senora and her hombrecito and they are all hanging back up.

It is good.

I still have a lot to put back like all the front porch plants which have gotten a lovely watering from the sky today. I'm going to town tomorrow to do some shopping and take care of August and Levon so it won't get done then but I'll have the weekend to take care of it. I sort of want to drive down to the FDG site to see what that looks like after today's rain. Yesterday it looked like this:

You see that little lake out front? I sent the picture to the guy I talked to in the Jefferson County health department environmental office and asked if they were building a holding pond there, right in front of the building because it sure did look like it.
For all I know, they are.
And guess what response I got?
Right- none.

Okay. So I did. I drove down there. The little pond out front looks about the same only more so. However, I drove around to the other side of the lot (it's still raining which is why I drove, and also, I am lazy) and this is what it looked like there.

Can you believe that shit?

Anyway, my house looks lovely.

And I have field peas simmering on the stove and all of my babies are safe and well.

Love...Ms. Moon

  2. yes....knowing all your babes are safe and well is foremost! Spray washing did it's trick! Lovely! Your porch looks so empty void of its many plants......which I know got moved for this *procedure*! If only we could spray wash life in general....and start anew. What a joy that would be

    2. And now I have the joy of putting all the plants back! Mr. Moon has to help me as some of them are almost too heavy for him to lift. A dolly is involved. My foot is fine now but I tell you what- that was a nasty few hours.

  4. Your house looks like a princess.

We just had our patio, with moss over an inch thick in spots, power washed. And I've been busy hosing things off that have collected fir needles for a few years. It feels so nice to have it clean.

    1. I love my house. I think it is a gracious goodness and it surely does hold our lives securely within its walls.
Your lips to some god's ears on the mud lake.

  6. Wow! On so many levels wow is correct. Your house looks fabulous and FDG looks like it's drowning. So glad your babies are well today. And your poor foot. BTW I love your green toenails.

    1. Thanks, Deb. Now if the FDG would only REALLY drown. Or at least flood. I know that if we got a ton of rain, like with a tropical storm, it surely would.

  7. Your house looks wonderful. Thank you so much for the before and after photos. You're a better woman than I am, I can't stand being bitten. I suffer out loud.

    1. Oh, I suffered out loud. Just not to the guy I was talking to. I immediately had to send a picture to Jessie for some sympathy.

  8. Your house does look lovely, it's a bit like putting a lump of mud encrusted flesh into the tub and pulling out a nice clean toddler, all fresh and sweet again. I love the curved steps up to your front porch.

    1. I like those steps too! I don't know if they're original but I do think they are pretty old. I've seen pictures from at least the early 1900's that they were in.

  9. You are right. Your house is beautiful and the FDG is an abomination.

  10. It looks amazing and so beautiful! But I'm shaking my damn head at that swamp on the construction site. WTF? I like picturing you on one of your rampages to address it, though.

    1. I should be in Monticello, raising my voice directly to these people. I'm so bad at confrontation. Part of me is afraid I'll just lose it and go off into a profane rant which really would not help.

  15. Rocky power washed out house before he painted it and it's amazing what a difference. The underneath of the tiny front porch looked just like yours with all the spider webs and wasp housing. We finally got three showers in as many days, maybe 4 -5 inches total. And every one was at night.

  16. Maybe they're going to put a moat around the FDG? I think they need one! (Which is what happens when someone builds in a wetland...grrrr!) Your porch treasures look very happy, all clean and refreshed.

Tell me, sweeties. Tell me what you think.
