No Rain Here, Sad To Say

This is what the sky looked like about half an hour ago and Glen and I and the frogs too were all chanting, "Rain, rain, come on, RAIN!" and the thunder was rumbling and it surely did seem as if the skies would open up and release some of that precious sky water but no. It did not.

Sigh.

The storm skirted us, once again.

Hell, I even watered the garden in the superstitious hope that it would increase the odds of it raining but if it did, the odds were still stacked against us.

I'm going to make this short. I don't really have the desire to bitch the way I did yesterday and I am, in fact, a little calmer. I managed to get some canning done- eight quarts and three pints of beans.

And yes you DO have to see every damn jar of whatever I can this summer, just as you've had to see every damn jar of everything I've canned in the last however many years I've been writing this blog.
A bunch of years. A bunch of jars.
Also, yes, some of the liquid from the jars did leak out due to what I have read is rapid fluctuation of the temperature in the canner. These things happen. And the jars have all sealed so they're good. I need to regulate the dang temperature which is funny because Mr. Moon is always complaining about not being able to regulate HIS temperature, especially while in bed. He gets cold and covers up and then he's too hot and throws off the covers and then he gets cold again and...
Well. Proper temperature regulation is obviously important for both canners and people.

So it's been a pretty good day, mostly because I got something done. It would very much seem that I have to feel as if I've been a least a little bit productive in order to feel okay about myself and how my day has gone. I started my puzzle in that I'm sorting out the edges which is how I always begin. Do you? If you do puzzles, that is. I feel like it's a good way to begin knowing the picture as well as forming the borders. I am a very non-visual person in some ways and jig-saw puzzles are especially difficult for me because I can't just look at the picture on the box and get an idea of the image in my head. It takes a whole lotta studying.

And a whole lotta time.
But it was a good thing to do while I had different steps of the canning going on, timing this and timing that and waiting for pressure to rise and waiting for pressure to go down. The actual filling of the jars when I'm doing plain old green beans is easy once they're snapped. But I suppose I need to work on my temperature fluctuations, don't I?

Mr. Moon dealt with more of Tom's situation today. This is not easy, people. It involves legality and rationality and reality. And a lot more. Some of it you do not even want to know and I don't even need to tell you. And yet the man, the Mr. Moon man, takes it all on with calmness and gentleness and kindness and the determination to do the right thing.
Right things.
It's all a lot.

Are you going to watch grown men beat each other to bloody pulps on the White House lawn on your Tee Vee tonight? What kind of a person celebrates his eightieth birthday cheering for such base and cruel entertainers?
You know.
I could puke just thinking about it. No need for me to see the bloody bashing. Simply knowing it's going on is once again proof to me that there is no depth to which this man will sink.

I could go into a whole other string of curses and cusses and profane observations but I won't. You already know what I think and what I'd say and how I'd say it.

That's all.

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. I think we ARE a sisterhood! We who love and use Joanne's towels. They are the best.

  2. I always do the edge of a jigsaw first and the elation when you find all four corners is a special joy.
I have never understood the desire to watch grown men beat the bejeezus out of each other - regardless of whose birthday it is! How embarrassing for your country to have its leader put on such a display. Surely someone would have suggested something with a bit more gravitas and decorum.
You are set for beans for winter but I feel there are more on the way!

    1. I picked beans again today! I gave some away though.
Yes. I did not think that Trump could embarrass us any more than he was but obviously, I was wrong. He and the men around him seem to think that testosterone is what the world needs right now and the more testosterone a (white) man has, the more capable he is of being a leader! And a winner! Real men with lots of testosterone are winners!

  3. I haven’t canned any beans YET but hope to. I have quite a few plants at a friends house. They have to grow with no watering. We shall see how that works. So far, it’s been raining every few days.
I also have a Tom in my life. (See above.) He’s got one eye, early dementia, almost violent hand shaking, no children, his wife is divorcing him and on and on. I take him to the Dr., to the grocery. Sometimes i go just to talk to him. I will not be his caretaker or power of attorney. My kindness only goes so far. That’s just how it has to be. I kind of think of him as my older brother without all the drama that comes with it. Glenn is doing what needs to be done when no one else steps up. That’s how i feel about my friend. Another friend of his takes him out every Friday for coffee and a muffin. We all do what we can.
I might watch the fight if someone beat trump to a bloody stump. Or body slammed him. I’m waiting for someone to get too close to his cotton candy hair with a lit cigarette or open flame. Now, THAT would be exciting!

    1. You are good to help the Tom in your life. These things are hard. Very hard. I know Glen's doing the best he can and he will continue to do so. I know you will too.
You think Trump would ever get in a ring with a fighter? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
My cat could beat him into a bloody pulp.

If the Orange Bastard's sitting out in the open, in his own private space ... who knows what might happen! 🤷‍♀️🤔

  6. Why do they call it canning ? When it involves glass jars not cans

    1. Do not ask me. But. A Way With Words says this: "It is called "canning" because the food preservation method was originally invented using metal cans. When the process was developed in the early 1800s, food was primarily sealed in metal canisters. The name stuck, and "canning" became the standard term for the process of sealing and heat-treating food to make it shelf-stable, regardless of the container used."

  7. Has no one in this administration heard of the Roman Empire, the decline and fall of? Gladiators? Bread and circuses? Did these people not go to school? Margaret

  8. You chanted but you did not dance, that's why you got no rain. Any Raindancer will tell you both are necessary. 🤣
I am the same with jigsaw puzzles, find the corners first then fill in the edges.
I hope he gets so excited by watching people punch each other that he has a heart attack. A fatal heart attack.

    1. You're right. We did not dance. I thought the frogs would do that part.
I've only found one of the corners of this puzzle so far.
Sadly, Trump somehow survived the blood, guts, gore and the sight of all those semi-naked muscular men which he seems to really get off on.

  9. I applaud your bean canning. Wonderful stock for your winter meals! Me too, do the edges of the puzzle first, and then sort all the colors into vague groups. I've seen different ways of doing so, one friend uses aluminum baking pans, and I seen lightweight boards that can be stacked when needed also. Rain came a couple of times here yesterday, and cooled things off nicely. So the windows are all open for a while this morning. Your bitching is always welcome here!

We got a tiny bit of rain today. There was lots of it just west of here but once again, Lloyd was only flirted with. It does feel a little color but the humidity is making everything sticky.

  10. We had "severe thunderstorms and an inch of rain" predicted but all that happened was a bit of wind. Such a disappointment, and of course I was one of many hoping that it was truly happening a few miles to the east in D.C. At least the mosquitos were evidently fierce, and there is always malaria or West Nile to anticipate.

Your beans are pretty. We just finally got ours planted, if they grow they will be harvested for Halloween.

    1. Oh yes! Malaria and West Nile, Dengue Fever, Zika, and the unpronounceable Chikungunya. And let us not forget Encephalitis!
All of this with the added bonus of the pain of their bloodsucking. And the itch afterward. The insect that keeps on giving!
My beans will PROBABLY be done by Halloween. No. I'm sure they will be.

  12. Sounds like Mr Moon is going through men-opause.

I always start puzzles with the border, doesn't everyone? And how cool they include a print of the puzzle for reference instead of having to use the box top.

And fuck, no, I have no intention of watching 47s cruelty personified.

Once it finally started raining here it has forgotten how to stop. Been getting showers off and on for three days. The ground is saturated.

Did you know that there are jigsaw puzzle competitions? People can either race each other or race the clock.
We usually get your weather after you do, as we know. But the rain keeps passing us by. We got enough to wet the ground today although it poured in town.

And no, Anonymous, I was not in California yesterday. Or any day in about twenty years or more. I have doppelgängers though. I believe I am made from a common mold.

  14. Bummer about the rain! We are finally getting some here, at least for the time being, and I feel sure your time will come soon. Summer in Florida!

I can't imagine why anyone would watch a UFC event, but then, I don't get boxing either. And Teddy Roosevelt WAS a boxer, even during his White House years, so I guess it's not unprecedented that a president should like a violent sport. (Not that that excuses Trump. I'm sure Roosevelt was deep down a decent human being, at least!)

Oh yeah. Teddy was a boxer, wasn't he? He was a manly man, I guess. Always going off to shoot things.

  15. Your pantry looks well stocked with healthy home-grown food goodness. What could be better than that?
It did rain last night here and I am grateful. Today is overcast. The heat has thankfully abated.

  16. I haven’t worked on a jigsaw puzzle in more than 10 years. My mother was in rehab after back surgery and there was a puzzle on one of the tables in the lounge. I enjoyed it. A 95-year-old woman sat next to me a couple of times and we worked on it together while my mother watched. I would compliment her on her puzzles skills and then, after she left, I would undo all the pieces she crammed together. Poor Tom and poor, patient Mr. Moon. Tell him I love him, too! You’re right about the asshole in chief and the ass-kissing assholes in DC.

Jigsaw puzzles now. I rarely do them, but usually go for the frame first before looking for groups of pieces to make something I see in the picture. I like Springbok puzzles because they have different and interesting shaped pieces. They're inventive.
