So Many Pictures

Spirea, camellias, azaleas.
Okay, Spring. You're just showing off now.

Don't stop! Please don't stop!

Tung blossom. Now, according to everything I've read, one tung seed can kill a person if ingested and the entire tree is toxic if humans are exposed to the different parts. However, as I told Glen a little while ago, I have never once heard of anyone dying by tung seed, neither human nor animal. I used to worry a bit as my chickens pecked under that tree frequently but none of them ever keeled over. Or even got bad tummies as far as I know.

I had more insomnia last night.
This will not stand.
I didn't even have any itches to blame it on. I simply could not get back to sleep. Eventually, I did, but there was at least an hour of time where I just laid there playing alphabet games in my head.
And I did not feel great when I woke up. I almost wondered if I was coming down with whatever Mr. Moon had. But when he asked if I wanted to go to town with him to shop at Oak Tree Treasures while he delved into a Moon Plaza situation involving trash pick-up and then have lunch, I said, "Yes. I think so."
And so I did.
Hank and Rachel joined us at Oak Tree. They live less than a mile away. And it was SO fun, shopping about with them. Rachel and I had a very good time, holding up garments and commenting on them. Not always in flattering terms.
Well, what would you expect?
And hanging out with Hank and discussing different finds is also just a damn good time.
I did not find any clothing I wanted or needed but I did find a rocking chair that yes, I do believe I wanted and needed. Rachel (I think) took this picture of me sitting in it.

It was the sweetest little old granny rocking chair you can imagine. And that did come home with me. It is now in my bathroom because I love my bathroom and I love to put things I love in there.

I believe it will probably end up on the porch at the cabin.
Maybe. As for now, I may or I may not sit in it in the bathroom. I did try it out there, curious as to what I would be looking at when I did, and it was rather nice.

I also bought these.

They are plates of the salad or side-sized or luncheon-sized and I have been looking for more of those. I really like the way they are painted.

All different and yet definitely of a set. I didn't Google Lens them until after I got home. They were priced so reasonably and I liked them so much that their value was obvious to me. When I did look them up, I discovered that they are vintage, collectible, and far more valuable than what I paid for them. I mean, not hundreds of dollars, but perhaps thirties of dollars.

But the main thing is, I bought them because I liked them and that was that. I just won't be putting them in the dishwasher, knowing what I now know.

So that was a very sweet shopping trip and being with Hank and Rachel was absolutely perfect.

Glen and I had lunch after that. Once again, it was way late and once again, we ended up at the Cuban restaurant. My favorite server took care of us and I told Glen, sotto voce, "I love her."
"I know," he said.
I never joke around with this server whose name is Jessi, as I am sure I have mentioned. She is too professional for that mess. She is friendly and polite and knows what she's doing and I have absolutely no illusions that she wants to be my friend.

And then, back to my mission to find a Mexican basil, we returned to Native Nurseries where I was hoping they'd had some come in but they had not.
Sigh.
Oh well. Other things were bought.

Just a few more herbs and vegetables and...

This kalanchoe commonly called Miracle Plant.
I know nothing about miracles this plant can do but if you click on the link, you will find that it can CURE EVERYTHING.
Oh well. Sure.
The reason I wanted it is that it used to grow in the woods in Roseland and I was fascinated by the blooms it made. I assume they were blooms. I'm not sure. They looked like this.

And you could pop them, which we did. We were not only entertained, we also recognized uniqueness when we saw it.

It needs to go into a pot because it is not freeze hardy but it surely makes me happy to have it in a pot or in the ground, either one. I have been looking for one to dig up in Roseland but have not seen one. Perhaps all the popping of their blooms we did may have killed them all. They could still be there somewhere but I am not one to trespass on privately owned property to look for plants to dig up.
Unless I'm sure I can't be caught.

Dang. I have to go make supper. Air-fried catfish tonight. Caught in Lake Seminole by Mr. Moon.
He will be so happy.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. WOW sister- you struck it rich! I looked up the posie garden plates, they are so pretty- lucky find and the chair also pretty damned cool! Glad you had a time with the hank kid.
Miracle plant- we could use some of those scattered throughout the land!
    What a great day! XO

    1. I was happy as hell to spend some time with the Hank kid and his lovely wife, Rachel.
When I first saw those plates I thought they might be something from a place like TJ Maxx but the edging designs pulled me in to exam more closely. The pansy was the one on top and a pansy will charm a person.
Miracle plant indeed. We should paint the country with it and spray it from drones everywhere.

  2. Those plates did look collectible. I'm glad you bought them just because you loved them. That's more important.

    1. Exactly! It was the size that I really first noticed. Sometimes a regular sized dinner plate is just too big. And since none of my "china" matches, these fit right in.

  3. That is a very sweet little rocker. I like the plates, but for myself I would prefer them without the central flower or maybe a smaller version of the flower. Which only means I would have left them in the store for someone else, like you, to find. My mum had a range of Kalanchoes but I don't remember what kind.

    1. I am becoming more enchanted with the central flowers. They're growing on me. Hahahahahahahaha!

  4. The garden posey plates are beautiful. I like the fact that they're all not the same pattern. Great choice! The rocker is cute. Glad it fit into your bathroom. Yep, I could see that at the cabin.
Well, it was breezy and chilly here today. Thankfully no snow! I just read there's high wind warnings for tomorrow. Thousands of folks in NE Ohio lost power the other day d/t the high winds. Luckily, we were OK. Saw several large trees down on houses today driving around. We just have the best weather up here.

    1. I think the rocker will be a sweet thing on the porch of the cabin and since the porch is definitely my favorite part of the entire situation, I will be happy it's there.
Breeze and chilly is better than snowing and freezing but...high winds next? Man. You need a vacation in a sunny, tropical place and soon. You deserve it too.

  5. Oh so many treasures. I would have enjoyed going shopping. That rocker would have been a good size for my grandmother. Her feet didn’t reach the floor when she sat in hers. The flower photos are stunning. We had that type of kalanchoe in a pot in San Diego. I had no idea it had so many uses. I never died either.

    1. It's a tiny chair, isn't it? Pretty darn comfortable too. I would love to have seen your grandmother in such a chair. Now whenever I look at my chair I will always think of her and wonder if her feet would have touched the ground when she sat in it.
I'm glad neither one of us ever died. Maybe we never will!

  6. Lovely flowers to start your post...and I'm a Kalanchoe fan, but not that version. I've now had two different kinds, and oh they grow and have cuttings so easily! But now have leaf spots on several, so am not happy about that. Yes yes to the rocker and the lovely plates.

    1. Yes. I told Glen that if I were a person with no scruples I would have just snatched a leaf and brought it home and grown my own plant. That's how I got my giant begonia but an employee of the nursery who was a sort of friend, offered me to take some and I did. I love the plants I start myself the most. My babies.
I was very happy with my purchases yesterday.

    1. Well I think so. And what I paid for all of them is less than what a set of the plates would cost from online sources. Which isn't the point but doesn't it make us feel smug? Well, me at least.

  8. Your plates made me happy just looking at them. Good find! We had wisteria growing for 5 years with nary a bloom. I read somewhere to wack it good to stimulate it. My husband took a shovel and beat it hard several times. The next year it was loaded. You have to show who's boss. I have always loved plants that grow overhead. Roses, vines, morning glories, it always pleased me to look up.

    1. WHAT???!! I've never heard of beating your wisteria. Sounds almost like a euphemism. And yet- it seemed to work? I suppose my wisteria gets its beatings from the wind. And I'm afraid it knows who's boss around here and it ain't me.
Yes. How joyous to look up into the faces of flowers.

  9. I loved the photos this week- even though we've had like 6 tornados around the state, we're still experiencing Michigan greige everywhere.... xxalainaxx

    1. FUCK! Tornados? Is that a common thing where you are? I had to look up the word "greige." I had never heard it before. Gray+Beige=Greige. That would not be my favorite color. I surely hope you get some breaths of spring soon, dear heart.

  10. That morning glory plate! The others are nice too. I might have bought them if I was younger. That kalanchoe is so unique. Very cute rocker too but it looks child size to me. So a very good day.

    1. I don't feel bad about buying new china because everything I have is thrifted stuff and as such, none of it is too valuable to worry about what'll happen to it when I die. Also, I don't feel bad about using the plates and saucers for things like putting under plants when I bring them inside. I won't be using these new ones for that, however.
It is sort of a child-sized rocker but it suits me fine. I think people used to be a lot smaller.

  11. You had good luck at the Oak Tree Treasures store. Those are all sweet finds. I'm jealous of your first several photos as we have nothing blooming yet here.

    1. Well, just think- when your spring is at its peak, we'll already be broiling in the heat. And then we'll be jealous of you.

  12. Nice finds MM. I love the plates and would have likely bought them too. The only downside being handwash only.
The mini rocking chair is sized for you. Somehow, I do not see GM sitting in the chair. The chair was made for you and Maggie.

    1. Well, it's easy to handwash a little plate. I don't mind.
Nope. Don't think Glen could sit in that chair. Wouldn't be prudent.

  13. Those plates are lovely. I love the wisteria! . My parents had a rocker exactly like that, my brother has it now. It looks to fit you perfectly.

    1. I have another old, armless rocker with wicker webbing in it that I bought over fifty years ago in Denver, Colorado. It lives in my library. When I left Denver, I packed my car with the stuff I could fit in and that included that rocker, my parakeets, and my pressure cooker. What sort of a nineteen year old was I?
      A strange one.

Well now I am really effed up. I thought the plant growing and blooming great guns in my west window is a kalanchoe. So much for online plant-identifiers. Now I must do more searching and correct myself with several people who have admired my plant and asked its name. It's definitely not like the one in your photo. Poo poo pee doo. -Kate

  15. But there are many different kinds and varieties of kalanchoes so the odds are good that IS what you have. Google it!
