This always happens just as we're about to leave for North Carolina. I had not planned on picking the garden today but when I took the compost out I saw a few million green beans which I would have sworn were done, and some tomatoes and peppers and so forth so I got my basket and trotted out to the garden. It was cloudy when I started but the sun came out after I'd been picking for a few minutes and I swear it felt like someone had turned the broiler element on over me. It was wickedly intense.
However, I survived.
That whole basket is filled with green beans underneath the other vegetables you see there. And there are plenty more peppers and the field peas are ripening up. That's what you see over there on the left behind the banana pepper and next to the jalapeƱo.
And who knows what this is?
If you guessed it's my volunteer sweet potato vines, you are right! They are taking over the garden but that's okay. I can cut them back.
I've taken a few steps in the getting-ready-to-travel process today. I did laundry and some ironing. I put the sewing machine away. I filled up a large SMTWTFS pill container with our supplements. And...eh. I don't know. Not much. I thought about it a lot. I'm still thinking about it. Does that count?
Another thing I did was to take this video to send to Hank, Rachel, and Mark who will be house-sitters.
The video makes me laugh so much that I thought it might make you laugh too. It's the Mr. and Ms. Moon show! Also- isn't he darling? I only wish I hadn't quit filming before he said, "CUT!"
Let's see. What else is going on?
Mr. Moon started a trip itinerary for us. This, too, made me laugh.
It started out, "Leave house," and went on to "Take unknown road to Miccosukee and Thomasville."
I am thinking we might reach our first night's destination of Athens, Georgia by 8:00 p.m. This is an approximately 265 mile journey. I recall that last year, we were going to take an alternative route to Thomasville and realized within twenty minutes of leaving the house that we'd already made a wrong turn.
I am sure that this theme will be repeated on this trip. It seems to me that we were constantly having to pull over to consult our phones, our maps, and the car's GPS to figure out where in hell we were and where in hell we should be. We passed every Dollar General from here to Black Mountain, North Carolina. I swear. At one point I believe I was actually hysterical. You know- laughing and crying at the same time? Yeah. I did that. Also, my elderly phone quit working properly and I had to figure out work-arounds but before I did, I had a major anxiety attack.
Ah-lah. It all worked out. And I have a new phone this year. And Mr. Moon has updated the GPS app on his car. So all should be well, right?
Oh god. I hope so.
And as long as we can keep laughing, all will be very, very well.
One more thing. When I read the paper today and saw this in the comics section, it touched my heart so deeply.
That pretty much sums up my philosophy and how I try to live.
Love...Ms. Moon
love Mr Moon's instructional vid! Awesome! And your bountiful harvest reminds me of my last *bountiful* apricot crop ........all 60 lbs of apricots dropped off our tree in entirety THE day before my friend and I left on our cross country month long trip to Canada. Oh lah. Left hubby to deal with...... and haven't had a good crop since. Your trip will go well....you've got plenty of experience!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
So- I want to know- what happened to those apricots? Did your husband make preserves?
DeleteNO! He gave 90% of them away to friends! As it should be!
DeleteEverything will be OKl
ReplyDeleteI know. I am actually really looking forward to it.
DeleteCarry veggies with you ... you may need them if you get lost on the back roads of "who the hell knows" in whatever State you are in! Sustenance, you know!!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe, fun trip filled with lots of laughter! I am sure you will!
Love that video and Glen can keep his day job! LOL Making those beautiful coffee tables could be a full-time job for him!
I am going to TRY to can the last of the green beans and take those with us. We shall see how tomorrow goes. It would also be easier to eat them in the middle of nowhere should we get hopelessly lost. Glad you liked the video!

Thesaurus describing Mr.Moon. You will have a fine trip! Fun to travel together since you are both very much all of the above. Love hearing your voice. I wish there was a shoe like you two- perfect...
The table is a dream!!
Oh my goodness! I may have to borrow that list for our anniversary. I will give you and Roget's credit. Does my voice sound like you thought it would?
DeleteThat video is great and yes he is adorable
ReplyDeleteI think so too! It was so fun to make that little silly video.
DeleteThat's a great post! Mr M was hysterically funny , and I was waiting for him to point to the exit doors and the oxygen masks!! I now know how to operate a table! Joy!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have a great time, lost or not. And what a beautiful voice you have, Mrs m.
Isn't Mr. Moon a hoot? I think so. He could be a flight attendant if he were about a foot shorter.
DeleteThank you for the voice compliment. That is how I sound.
And we will get lost. There is no doubt. But we will laugh.
That video is great and it made me giggle hearing the both of you. You two need your own yt channel! XOR
ReplyDeleteMaking that silly video was so fun I would not mind doing it again.
DeleteI love the video and that we got to hear your voice. I thought y'all would sound more southern, but what do I know about American accents?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip.
Well, we were using our "instructional" voices. Far more formal and less-accented than our usual ones. Because we were being professional.
DeleteHahahahahahaha!
So good to see/hear you, Darling Moons. Take those veggies and more from the garden with you and have a wonderful trip filled with laughter, getting lost together and reading aloud. x0x0 N2
ReplyDeleteThank you, N2! I hope all is well with you.
DeleteI love the tutorial, though I already knew how the table worked it was good to learn that you need to hold the underside when putting the top back down so the whole thing doesn't slide. You both have very nice voices :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely basketful of garden goodness. I know many people who could use an "understanderer".
Here's a secret- I don't use the underside grip to put the table down. I prevent it from slipping with my foot on the base. In case you ever need to operate such a table.
DeleteI think we probably could ALL use an uderstanderer at times.
Non-slip strips glued to the underside of the table "feet" would help with that.
ReplyDeleteTrue but then it would be hard to move to clean under. Or, let Ralph clean under.
DeleteYep, thought of that as soon as I published.
DeleteI have no idea what either of you said. I just bathed in the loveliness that is your voices.
ReplyDeleteI think we all need an understanderer.
And I don't mean I didn't understand you - it was verbal velvet, soft and delicious.
DeleteOh, so you liked our dulcet tones? Ha! Thank you, Ms. Merlot.
DeleteI loved the video, and how wonderful to hear your voices! What was most amazing was that when your video finished, a " still" from Utube appeared, and it was Soulfish with Ryan Chandler . Ryan is an amazing dancer and he also sings with a guy called Dave Mason as " Two Tone". ( Dave is a white guy! ) The video was filmed at St. Albans arena 10 years ago, and I was probably there! Subsequently saw Ryan and Dave doing their singing in various pubs and golf clubs etc over the years. They have both kissed me, and last time I saw them I had a lovely chat with Dave.
ReplyDeleteI think that the stills that come up are based on the algorithms that our personal devices base on our searches. It took me a while to figure that one out.
DeleteI'll have to check out Ryan Chandler. Is he a good kisser? How about Dave?
It wasn't that sort of kiss.....sadly!!
DeleteWow! your garden is sure fabulous! You can take some produce to NC!
ReplyDeleteYou will have a great time and there will be lots of fun and laughter!
P.S. don't forget your phone charger. (that's what I might forget...)
I've got "chargers" on my list!
DeleteThat IS a great cartoon. We all have an internal "understander," but a lot of people seem to turn theirs off. (Including me, occasionally.)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the video! It's so great to hear you both. I'm glad those are sweet potato vines -- I was going to guess kudzu!
We all get impatient and that is understandable. None of us is perfect. So yes, I think an understanderer would be a fine thing to carry around with us.
DeleteOh god. I'm so glad that ISN'T kudzu in my garden. I'm sure we'll see plenty of that as we make our way up to the mountains.
Gosh, I love that video of you and your love. Wonderful table! And yes, we all need an understanderer. You will have a wonderful trip, and I cant wait to hear all the news from the mountains!
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweetheart!
Deleteyay, I got to see the table and hear your voices! the trip will be fine.
ReplyDeletethe cartoon is great. Americans seem to always be just at the boiling point so any annoyance sends them over the edge to retaliate and now they all have guns and are too willing to use them. Marc drives like an old man now but he used to get so pissed accusing other drivers of purposefully speeding up or slowing down just to fuck with him or prevent him from changing lanes when in actuality they were probably completely unaware of him besides just being another cr on the road.
and yeah, sweet potato vines.
DeleteWe are all on edge, aren't we? Just snappish so often.
DeleteYeah, Glen used to be a fast, aggressive driver. Sort of. I mean, he didn't have road rage or anything. But now he's just a laid back old guy like Marc, out there for the ride. He'll actually pull over if someone's on his ass too close and let them pass. He may cuss a little but...
