My sweetheart is home again.
I drove to the airport to get him and of course I had to get there about an hour early because one cannot be late for airport pick-ups and also, I'm always worried that I'll get lost on the way because the airport is practically in a different state, so I just sat in the terminal where the people come out when the planes land and read my New Yorker and people-watched although really, the number of people in the Tallahassee airport on a Sunday early evening was not very impressive. I saw him before he came through the glass doors and was up on my feet and ready for a hug and a kiss which I got.
I do believe that George Clinton was on his flight home. Clinton lives here and I saw what looked like a band to me come through the doors and head to the restrooms while a very good-looking older gentleman wearing a cowboy hat strolled on down to the baggage pick-up area. So that was pretty exciting.
I almost had to get a little perturbed with my husband when we exited the airport and I took a left instead of the right he would have taken and he said, "That's the longest way home," and I said, "But this is how I go," and by golly, I do believe that route is shorter. The one I took, I mean. And he agreed later on. I drove because he was tired. I sure hope he can sleep tonight.
Meanwhile, we came on home and Maurice saw him and pretended not to register his presence, strolling off in an opposite direction. She will probably be ignoring him for days to let him know how much he disrespected her by leaving. I had a conversation with her before I left to go pick him up, explaining that he was coming home and I think she understood me as she meowed something that sounded appropriate but she is who she is and the girl can hold a grudge.
I've got late-bloom green beans cooking and a piece of Glen's grouper marinating in buttermilk and lemon juice and I'll heat up tomato pie and make some grits. This is my love language. Cooking food that we grew or he caught, food that tastes like home. He had a really good time but I think he's pretty darn happy to be back.
I sure am glad he is.
Love...Ms. Moon
I'm glad he's back, too. Food he caught or you grew! What could be better?
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty darn good, I have to say.
DeleteMy cat punishes us in a very stinky typical manner when we return from " away". They are strange beasts.
ReplyDeleteThank GOD my cats don't do that.
DeleteMary, I always take the long way home. If is the path of least resistance and it is wise. And so much more relaxed. I plan my car trips around not having to turn left. Ever is possible.
ReplyDeleteI have a Maurice. I kind of don't like her because she is mean but I also love her so much I want to rip her face off. She has this fur between her toes and I just want to bite them. Why are cats so fucking perfect?
I was thinking about the shooting at the Trump rally. I find I am at a point in my life where my thoughts go go his mother. The sorrow that will always be with her now. No mama deserves that.
I do not mind turning left but I have heard of people who do not like to make left turns. And you are one of them!
DeleteCats are so perfect because we love them just as they are which makes them perfect. We should apply the same philosophy to ourselves.
There has been so little information about the shooter or his family. But no, no mother deserves that.
Wishing you both a sweet night.
ReplyDeleteWe had a pretty nice night.
DeleteI always make sure to get to places early as I've found that if you plan to be on time something will happen to make you late and I hate to be late.
ReplyDeleteAh Maurice, we love you.
The thought of being late to something stresses me out although it's our family joke that when we're all getting together, about a half hour before the agreed-on time, we all start getting group texts informing us that everyone is going to be late.
DeleteSo glad he’s home. Hope it was a great time with family. And hope that Maurice quickly gives up the attitude. Moose acts as if I was abducted when I return. SO happy to see me. Dudo tries to give attitude. He used to last for hours. Now he just lasts for minutes.
ReplyDeleteMaurice didn't keep the attitude for long at all this time. She certainly did not act like he'd been abducted (and that made me laugh) but she only lasted a few hours before getting on his lap for a nap.
DeleteSuch a cool geezer with his (fairly) new glasses, his orange sports T-shirt, his martini and his happy smile!
ReplyDeleteHe is a pretty cool geezer. And he has always been a handsome man.
DeleteThat is a happy man right there. Looks like he got some sun...or is his shirt glowing?
ReplyDeleteI think both!
DeleteI quite like sitting people watching in airports. It's easier waiting for someone than trying to dash through one to catch a flight though! Oh and I'd never heard of George Clinton, just figured it was one of Bill's brothers! WRONG, I guess!
ReplyDeleteTallahassee has a teeny airport although for some reason it's called Tallahassee International Airport. As far as I know there are no flights to other countries leaving out of there.
DeleteGeorge Clinton is most famous for his years in Parliament Funkadelic. He was wild!
Welcome back, Mr. Moon!
ReplyDeleteI'll tell him you said so!
DeleteGlad Mr Moon is home safely. If the legislature was in session I bet a Sunday evening at the airport would be pretty busy! Probably not in the middle of summer, though.
ReplyDeleteI would not know George Clinton if I fell over him. I'm only vaguely aware of who he is.
Yeah. There were just a few people coming in and going out at the airport. Not busy at all.
DeleteThe guy I think was George Clinton had that "look" about him as did the guys I assume are part of his band. There's just something about people who the light of fame have shown on.
Mr. Moon's great smile with martini in hand says he's happy to be home. I like driving my own route and like you have my favorites. Generally, my route is chosen by landscape views and lack of traffic. I call the scenic route.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite routes are ones I know FOR SURE!
DeleteGreat picture. He looks mighty happy to be home.
ReplyDeleteI think he is.
DeleteIs that man happy???
ReplyDeleteExcept for not having his phone which has been a total pain in the ass.
DeleteHe has a lovely smile
ReplyDeleteHe is a lovely man.
DeleteTony and I do almost everything differently.... it's been a point of contention on things like silverware in the dishwasher and whether one uses waze or not and follows the EXACT route..... enjoy the homecoming!!! xxalainaxx
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder how any two people manage to live together. I guess the answer is love and respect.
