Let's Mix It Up (Trump! You're Fired!)

Have we all seen this? Heard this?
I just deleted about ten paragraphs (lucky you!) about current events. When I found myself discussing the possibility of strokes or heart attacks happening to someone while throwing ketchup at the wall, I stopped.

And now I really don't know what to talk about. It's just been a regular day. When I woke up I did not feel good at all and asked Mr. Moon if he'd get me some covid tests in town when he went in to work out. I mean- I was with Jessie and August and Levon (who are all feeling fine now) on Sunday. But as the day has progressed I've felt better and better and got some more weeding done, trying to clear out the area where I'll plant my green beans.

Here is something that gave me great pleasure today. Which gives me great pleasure most days. And that may be silly, but it's true.

Folding laundry on the table my husband made just for that purpose and custom made to fit in our laundry room. Especially in the earlier part of the day when the sun streams in through that window and I have a little moment with my plants there. I am so hoping that the orchid shoots that are coming out will actually bloom. I give them silent encouragement many times a day.

Here are the bags that Mr. Moon has planted the potatoes in.

For whatever reason, he is quite excited about the garden this spring. He even went to a tomato growing class at a local nursery last weekend. I am glad for this. We need to spread out the compost he got and then he plans to get pine needles to use as mulch which is what they recommended at the class he went to. Yes, I know that pine needles can alter the acidity of the soil but the guy who taught the class said it's not enough to affect the growth of the plants.

I've got a lovely chicken in the oven, salad greens picked and washed, and I will soon put potatoes on to boil. The chicken is in my biggest cast iron skilled, resting on a layer of cut up carrots, onions, and garlic. I should have brought in some of these to roast too but I did not.

I am becoming very fond of turnips, either diced and cooked with a variety of greens, including their own, raw and thinly sliced in salads, or stir-fried, as I cooked them last night.

Back to Trump- the article above stated that if he pays the $350 million dollars the court has ordered him to pay and the $83 million he was also court-ordered to pay E. Jean Carroll, it will wipe out all of his cash, stocks and bonds.
Of course he'll contest all of this but every time he goes back to court, his legal bills increase and I can only imagine that they are astronomical at this point. I have to wonder how many attorneys would take on that sort of client, knowing that funds may be limited and also, that the man is guilty as fuck.

All right.
Well.
Happy Friday, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I am still amazed that with all the legal shit he is facing, he is still able to run for president. I would have assumed the position required a squeaky clean candidate - or at least one that hides his failings well.

    1. Not Trump. Remember when the grab-em-by-the-pussy tape came out? Caused a huge uproar and then...he got elected. I don't think his followers care at all if he cheated the legal system or stole votes.

  2. His character was known to all before the last time around. Unhappily, this ugliness is attractive to many people. Margaret

  3. will the ugliness ever stop? No, probably not....but I am almost numb to it now. Your laundry folding table is lovely....I would fold there all day and talk to the plants as well! Happy chicken and Martini Friday! Hope you continue to feel better, rather than worse!

  4. It pleases me so that you like turnips. I love them. When I was married and the children were babies, we had a garden. My husband's aunt and uncle visited from the west coast. When his aunt found the garden she was delighted at the crops. She pulled a turnip and knocked off the soil and found her husband and her son and made them each take a bite and she told them is was a real vegetable from real soil.
If that orchid is making a stalk, it will bloom. It may take a year, or another stalk.
I hope SCOTUS turns against him. They may, to save their sorry hides.

    1. Turnips are definitely REAL vegetables! My little Yankee granny used to cook them with the greens. That is actually one of the few things I remember her cooking.
The orchids all have bloom stalks. I hope they do actually give me flowers.
You'd think that anyone who made it to serve on the supreme court would have at least a few scruples. Some of those men do not seem to.

  5. So sick of Thing 45 ... Ugh! SDNY has made it so Thing 45 cannot do ANY real estate business for five years!
I can see babies on that orchid stalk ... You gonna be a Momma! LOL
I love turnips ... raw, cooked, great substitute for potatoes in whatever!

    1. And Trump is NOT happy about that! Big ol' baby had his toys taken away from him.
      Yep. Those are flower stalks.

    2. Marcia, your comment just gave me a *dejavu*! My Mom used to make mashed potatoes (not always, but at times) with half potatoes, and half mashed turnips. Haven't had that in 50 years but will work on that.....as I love them too! Susan M

    3. My mother used to do that too with Thanksgiving leftovers, something she really looked forward to. You are more than welcome to my portion. Margaret

  6. Oh, he can appeal the judgements but he's gonna have to post a bond for the full amount plus interest to do so. Good luck with finding someone to take that risk. Long time coming.

    1. Or...he could sell off some of his Monopoly properties. Fire Sale!
      Long time coming indeed.

  7. I think the founders were naive at some points, not reckoning on a madman with followers.

Meanwhile, the turnips are lovely. I used to like them raw and diced, but I don't like them cooked at all.

    1. I think you are completely correct about the Founding Fathers. They could not ever have foreseen anyone like Trump. Well, maybe they could but not the followers part.
I should find more turnip recipes. I do like them cooked.

  8. I would imagine one of trump's biggest fears is to be broke and powerless. Let's hope his fears come true.

    2. I agree with Pixie too! I have little experience with turnips.

    3. I also agree. Broke and powerless. He's not near broke yet but he can't run his NY businesses. So that power has been taken away from him.

Folding laundry is just so satisfying.

  10. Last summer I read that one could put banana peels in water.. let it sit for a couple of days and then use the liquid to fertilize tomato plants.. It worked. I got lots more tomatoes...Since my husband is a banana-holic I have lots of peels. You might tell Mr. Moon about this??

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'll have to read up on that! Our garden is pretty large. We might need more banana peels than we get!

  11. Turnips! I like them in soups. I wonder if a grow bag might keep the crawly and slimy (slugs) critters from eating any growing potato shoots?
If I was an attorney I wouldn't go anywhere near the mess that is Trump!

    1. Don't know about the grow bags protection properties but like I keep saying- at least we'll be able to find all the potatoes!

I read anonymous' comment before they deleted it. I'm pretty sure that DT does NOT have well over three billion dollars.

  14. I too wonder about the attorneys. He doesn’t end up paying them. Maybe they sign on for the notoriety. The tragic part of these stories is that with each legal loss the Orange Menace only becomes more popular. I swear we’re living in an alternate universe.

    I love turnips!

    1. I have often had the same thought about an alternative universe. I want to go back to the other one! You're so right. Every time the "fake" news reports on another "witch hunt" trial, he absolutely gets more popular.
Shall I send you some turnips?

  15. I don't think I have ever eaten turnip.....not knowingly anyway! They aren't really eaten widely here. I thought they are mainly for feeding cattle !
I hope that your orchids flower nicely. I have got 2 of mine with stalks coming up....perhaps I should give them a pep talk! The main thing with orchids is to not water them much.....I very occasionally let water pass through the pot and let it drain.....about once a year probably! They seem to thrive on neglect.

    1. My orchids really didn't do a thing until I just set them outside last summer and told them to live or die as they wished. I'll put them back out this summer, I think.

  16. PS Haha.....Just re-read my comment...I hope that you don't think I am suggesting that you are " cattle". !!

    1. Oh, absolutely not! I think they do make cattle feed from turnips.

  17. I get as excited as anything in spring about gardening. Then I inevitably jump the gun, plant too soon and wonder why everything dies when it snows again!

    1. Yeah. Snow is just not friendly to most garden plants, is it?

  18. I saw last night that someone started a GoFundMe account for Trump with the goal of raising that $355M fine and at that point just short of $8K had been raised. go ahead on fools, send your hard earned money to a self proclaimed billionaire that doesn't give a fuck about you. then someone commented that you can't pay that kind of fine with donations.

I wish I could get my potatoes in and the ground ready. everytime it dries out enough to work the soil it rains again. and now it's cold, in the 40s.

    1. It's sort of like those televangelists pleading and crying with old people to send them money and promising them blessings. I don't think Trump's promising anything. Not even a MAGA hat made in China.
We're getting your rain right now!

  19. Yes, that court ruling is delicious news. I don't think Trump is paying his own legal bills so I'm not sure that's much of a factor in his decisions to appeal everything. But still -- what a LOSER! (It gives me great and juvenile pleasure to apply that word to Trump, for whom it is the lowest of putdowns.)

I love folding laundry too, and I would love it even more with a table like that! I don't know why laundry is such a satisfying task but it is.

    1. Yes. Trump is definitely a loser. And he's going to lose more. He's going to lose so much he's going to be tired of losing.
      Haha!
I'm with you on the laundry. I have no idea why I enjoy it so but I do.

  20. While I am enjoying seeing Trump getting his just deserts it does not take away the sting of 4+ years of that asshole in the White House. Or the lemmings who would elect him again. I don't think this country will ever recover.
On the other hand, the simple pleasure of a lovely laundry room warms my heart.

    1. Oh no. Nothing will ever heal us from his years in the White House. I have my doubts about the country ever recovering again too.

  21. You mention baking bread from time to time; I wish you would give us a schedule for making the dough, letting it rise, when to shape it, etc. I am trying to get back into baking, and having a time juggling time and temperature.

    1. Beverly, my bread is not coming out well these days. Not sure why. But if you're interested in very specific step-by-step instructions for sourdough bread baking, go to https://thebeginningofsummersend.blogspot.com/
and do a blog search for sourdough bread. Rebecca knows what she's doing!

    2. Get a brand new sourdough starter going and ditch the old one, it might help.

  22. I heard someone say that Trump will now be tempted to sell secrets to Putin and Saudi Arabia and China in exchange for them paying off his legal debts. Can you imagine the clusterf*ckery if he wins and has access once again to classified intel. Let the fire sale begin! It’s 37P btw.

  23. I assume Trump supporters contribute to his campaign fundraising efforts and thus they fund his "appeals" and endless grifting and if re-elected I guess they'll fund the end of democracy too. Sigh. He's absolute cancer.
