No Title

Here's sweet Maurice with her Jack-scarred face. She's been spending most of her time in a new place which is on a pillow on a buckwheat cushion on the floor of the Glen Den. The buckwheat cushion may or may not be a meditation cushion and which I may or may not know how it got here. I think someone told me but I've forgotten. I certainly never bought it.
Jack has been annoying the crap out of me lately. Not only does he beat up Maurice every chance he gets but he also has taken to sleeping right outside the Glen Den so that he can attempt to kill her if she should make the mistake of leaving the room to eat or go outside to attend to her toilette. And last night he insisted on sleeping with me in the chair and woke me up about fifty times by moving or grooming or whatever the hell he was doing. I pushed him off a few times but he got right back up and it's hard to argue with a ten thousand pound cat (that is exactly what he weighs at night) who has toe daggers.

Okay. That was fascinating.

August and Levon were supposed to spend the night tonight but in a bizarre twist of fate Vergil got sick this week and although he is fine now, he got tested for Covid of course and Jessie wants to wait until his results come back. To be honest, it would be easier for me if I was able to sleep in the bed while they're here instead of the chair for a myriad of reasons. This is disappointing but we are all getting good at patience.

What else?
Not much. I watched Joe Biden's speech last night and in my heart I think he's truly a decent man. As would anyone who's spent an entire lifetime in government, he's made some mistakes but I do think he's evolved. Also- if there were truly any real scandal about the man it would have been revealed by now. A little plagiarism, a tendency to stand a little too close to people, a rather advanced age- these are all nothing compared to what we're dealing with now. I love the fact that although he's a very practicing Catholic, he's a staunch supporter of a woman's right to choose and I believe he came out before Obama as being a supporter of same-sex marriage. And he obviously adores his wife, the amazing Dr. Jill Biden, and family and he's been through enough tragedy to give him incredible, deep, and true compassion.
Also, he's not Trump. And that is all that really matters to me right now. And Kamala Harris is not Mike Pence. To be quite honest, I think that they could have one of the best administrations ever if things go well.
I will not lie to you though- I am scared to death that we won't get the chance to see. And if Trump is elected for a second term, there will be absolutely no stopping him. It does seem as if the winds of change are blowing with Republicans coming forward and announcing their support of Biden and with former staff members doing the same. Or at least the ones who haven't been arrested.

On to hurricanes. Looks like the first storm to get close is going to pass right over Cozumel before it gets to our area if indeed it does which it may not. The folks in Cozumel are predicting just a tropical storm with some rain and not very high winds. It'll be there by tomorrow. That one doesn't even have a name yet and is still a tropical depression. The one following that is called Laura and is a tropical storm and that one has more of a potential to affect us and to develop into hurricane status. This probably means nothing to most of you and there's no reason it should. If you live in Ohio, there is absolutely no need to clutter up your brain with the difference between tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. I'll just let you know if I personally am in danger because it's all about me. Right?

Wrong.
And yet, we all cannot help but see the world through the lens of our own eyes.
How fucking profound was that?

I better go pickle some onions and cabbage to go on our black beans. There will be avocados too. I'm pretty excited.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. Jack may be jealous. He's so sweet to us and the kids but he's just horrible to Maurice. I think he wants to be the only cat.

  2. Listened to Obama, that was it- beside the highlights on PBS news. I cannot stand flag waving for any reason. Poor kitty...Jack may need an anti depressant, I felt mean like that two days ago...just sayin'

    1. I hear you on the flag waving. I can't abide it either.
Jack needs an anger management class. Do they have those for cats?

  3. Maurice has the sweetest face! I feel sorry for her having to worry about Jack all the time. Jack needs to find something else to occupy his time!

    1. Jacks only interests in life are
      1. Food
      2. Sleep
      3. Killing Maurice so she won't eat the food.

  4. Poor, steadfast Maurice. Bless her heart! Hope Vergil's test neg. so that grands can have a sleepover at Mer and Bops. I think it will be a negative test.
Joe......... he's a decent man, yes. A *close talker*......and a touchy feely, but in my heart I believe he is just one of those huggy warm fuzzy people who loves human connection. I firmly believe that, it is who he is. So contrary to what we have seen for 4 years.....can it be that long? Bring him on! I am hopeful and cautiously optimistic......PLEASE let it be?
    Much love

    1. I think Vergil's test will come back negative for sure. We're all just being overcautious here.
When I heard about people coming forward to say that Biden had made them feel uncomfortable I was torn between my belief that all women need to be believed and in also believing that some people are just absolutely not very clear on boundaries. I think you're right- he's a people guy.
Unlike Trump who's a germaphobe unless it involves a prostitute peeing on him. I guess.

    2. I DO believe all women need to be heard, but there is a difference in overstepping boundaries, and just plain being a warm fuzzy person. Which I believe him to be. Some people are huggers and kissers and lovers, some are not. You are a hugger and kisser and lover.....it's a wonderful human quality. I never *learned* to be that way (and enjoy it) until I was in my 20's, as I did not grow up an in a home with emotional demonstration of any kind. Oh, I must say I changed for the better!

  6. Thanks for the hurricane tutorial! Keep us posted!

If Vergil is already better that sounds like it's probably not Covid. Not that I'm an expert.

I think Biden is fine, and most importantly, he's CERTAINLY better than what we have now.

If we ever are asked, we'll say "Yes..."

  8. In the age of covid, any garden variety illness is terrifying. I suspect Virgil is just fine. Every night I feel as if i might be getting sick, but it must all be in the mind, as i wake up just fine. What a time we live in. Be safe in the storm!

    1. It's funny. I never think about having Covid. I'm too stuck on my regular lifetime hypochondriac fears. It would be quite ironic if I got it.

  9. My son has a nasty cat. I'm not a cat person anyway (but I've been known to make a fuss of a few) but that one? Nah, I stay as far away from him as possible. And I agree with you about Biden. I think he's a decent man and I hope to God he gets in! Fingers crossed for you all that Laura remains a tropical depression!

    1. Some people just do not like cats. I get that. I've always had cats. They suit me so much better than dogs which I do like but I do not want to have one of my own.
Let's here it for decent men!

  10. Poor Maurice with Jack's bullying! Any way to discipline Jack to be nicer, or at least more tolerant? Our aging Cat has become a pisser in the house, don't know why all of a sudden she's acquired that dirty habit, except mebbe age related feline incontinence perhaps? So now she has to spend more time outside than inside because she can't be trusted. I do think Biden is a decent Man and Kamala a decent Woman, which even if they don't get everything right, at least I do feel their Hearts for Serving the people are in the right place. With this Administration we already know they have no Heart for the people at all and are blatantly corrupt and abusing their power and authority every way they possibly can. Four more years of the Orange Fuhrer would likely make America be an Authoritarian Regime and eliminating that would be unlikely once it's given a stronghold. Just look at Countries that has already happened to, not places anyone wants to live and also find it difficult to escape from.

    1. When cats get old and start peeing in the house it can be a sign of kidney disease. We faced that with one of ours once and we felt so horrible when we found out that was the reason he'd been pissing everywhere. We'd been yelling at him! So, might want to get that checked.
As to disciplining Jack? We yell at him and to be honest, he's received a swat or two for going after Maurice but it all happens so fast I'm not sure how we'd address the problem.
I agree with you about the Authoritarian Regime and I fear that we are already farther down that road than we think.

  11. I did not watch any of the DNC and won't watch any of the RNC. I know I'm voting for Biden/Harris. and the line up for the RNC is nothing but hate and smugness. and the lies they are desperately spinning...took god out of the pledge of allegiance, never mentioned god at once during the whole 4 nights.

has Jack been fixed? that usually takes the aggression out of a male cat.

it's looking like we may be spared the hurricane as it is moving east.

    1. Jack has definitely been fixed. That's not the problem. Not sure what the problem is but that is not it. We get our pets fixed. Well, except for the chickens. Ha!
Glad the hurricane doesn't look like it's going to hit you. I don't think we're going to much from the other one either.
I mostly watched the speeches at the DNC just to hear what Obama and Harris and Biden had to say. God knows I'm voting for Biden and Harris. I doubt I'll watch any of the RNC either. It wouldn't be good for my health.
