I don't think that Jessie would mind me telling you that what she had done today was a double hernia repair. Her daddy's had three so...
And Vergil's had one.
And all went well. That's her before they took her back. The strangest thing for me was how incredibly worried and anxious I was all day until she got out of the OR. I mean, I knew I was concerned. Surgery is surgery. Never to be dismissed as of no possible consequences. And we have the sweetest, darlingest friend who goes way, way back with Lily who is a surgical tech and she is our surgery advisor in all ways. She gives us her educated opinion on different doctors and I trust that opinion with all my heart. And she even tries to scrub in for any surgeries that our family may have where she practices. She was with Jessie today and even texted me several times to tell me that all was going well and then, when it was over.
But even with our darling Kelly there, I was a complete mess. I guess it was ridiculous not to think that I wouldn't be. I was just shocked at how profound my anxiety was. Our babies are our babies, no matter their age.
But Vergil kept us informed from his end and he has already taken her home and has gone to get her prescriptions. Here's the picture he sent when she got out of recovery.
Still smiling. And now she just needs rest.
I went to the grocery store before I picked up the boys, so dissociated that I really had a hard time getting what I needed but I did, and then I picked up August and Levon at school and brought them home to Lloyd. They're so excited. TV! Chicken and dumplings! Purple cows! Pancakes!
Ooh boy.
Ooh boy.
Here they were watching TV after eating some popcorn with their Bop.
Now they've all gone outside to put some new wheels on the garden cart.
They were full of words on their way home, describing Halloween and talking about school and many, many other things that I can't remember although I do recall we had an in-depth conversation about different types of candy. August told me that they are studying cause and effect in school. I feel this is a good subject for eight-year olds to learn about. They are smart and darling boys.
I've simmered the chicken with celery and carrots and onions and mushrooms and garlic, and added a bag of frozen green beans. The chicken is out, cooling on the counter and I'll shred that up in a little while and make the dumplings. Again, I've used my broadest pot to get in as many dumplings as possible because it's all about the dumplings, isn't it?
I'm going to do my best to convince them to let me read "The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza" to them before bed.
They don't need that but I do.

Hank and Rachel seem to be having a very fine time in Miami! Hank took a walk this morning while Rachel was having to do work in the room for her job.
The Atlantic Ocean which despite my many, many years here near the Gulf of Mexico, is ever and always my mother ocean.
We also got these pictures.
Sushi goodness! I'd trade a bowl of chicken and dumplings for whatever is in that bowl in front of Hank.
Somehow I did manage to get clean sheets on the bed so you know I did not fall apart completely. And now I'm trying to get Mr. Moon's attention to come in and make us a martini. It is, after all, Friday.
I hope you've all had a happy one.
Love...Ms. Moon
P.S. Garden cart wheel replacement was also a success.
Glad all went well. On all fronts, sounds like.
ReplyDeleteIt did.
Deleteyes, so glad Jessie did well and is recuperating. Bless her, and Vergil! Fun time with your grands..... though I can imagine your day *was* full of concern for Jessie's wellbeing...I would expect no less. Now....have that Martini and enjoy some quiet time!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you
Susan M
I did enjoy a martini! Thank you.
DeleteFrom the other side, having such wonderful grandparents taking care of her children must have been a great comfort for Jessie.
ReplyDeleteShe knew they'd be fine.
DeleteSounds like everyone survived the day ... Including YOU! However, every surgery, even the "easy" ones, have to have some caution applied to them.
ReplyDeleteIf there is anesthesia involved, there could be an unexpected risk!
Thank the Goddess ... All is good this evening!
Exactly, Marcia. I am very glad that all is well.
DeleteGood grief. Have they worn out the first set of cart wheel already?
ReplyDeleteWell, mostly Glen and I did.
DeleteWell, no wonder you've been anxious, between your kidney stone and your daughter's surgery. I'm glad that everything went well, for everybody.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a bit of an anxiety-producing situation around here.
DeleteThose boys are gathering some great memories. You are a good grandmother.
ReplyDeleteOf course we worry when our babies have anything done to them. It's so hard not being able to rush and and kiss them better.
I know! Although Jessie, aka The Truth Teller, once told me when she was a child that my kisses did not really help her boo-boo's feel better. Sigh.
DeleteA lot on your plate, Ms Moon. A heaping helping of mixed anxiety. Glad you are on the other side of it.
ReplyDeleteNow to deal with the kidney stone...
DeleteMahi and corn ceviche in leche de tigre. So delicious! The restaurant was called SuViche. Peruvian food and sushi.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! "SuViche!" I love it. Man, I bet that was good.
DeleteSo glad all went well for Jessie. that beach! Ooohh, sand and sea..
ReplyDeleteNow that is a real beach in my opinion.
DeleteI'm glad Jessie is on the mend and that all went well. Now maybe you can relax!
ReplyDeleteFor a little bit, at least!
DeleteThese photos of the fam bring such joy to my ticker, ❤️
ReplyDeleteRachel takes good pictures! So does Hank, obviously.
DeleteI'm so glad to hear that Jessie is okay and resting after her surgery.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun night with the boys. I'll have 2 of mine over later today for chili dinner and a movie so I'm looking forward to that! :)
That sounds like a lot of fun- chili and a movie.
Deleterepeating what everyone has said...glad Jessie's procedure went without a hitch. you know, I'm not sure I've ever actually seen the Atlantic Ocean.
ReplyDeleteEllen! It's quite different from the Gulf, really. Wilder.
DeleteI love Hank's shirt. Very Miami!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Jessie's operation went well and she has all of you to take care of her. The boys look like they're having fun with that garden cart!
I think they did.
Delete37paddington: I’m so glad Jessie is on the other side of that surgery and that all went well, but you know I deeply understand how anxious you were before and during. Our babies will always be our babies indeed, and there is nothing in this world we want more than for them to thrive. I have to really remind myself that it’s not possible or even desirable for any human to be happy at all times because, truth is, I default to wanting my kids to be happy always. I’m in agony if I know they’re struggling with something. But now all is well in Lloyd and the boys are having a grand adventure because they don’t know yet all the things that can worry a person who knows how to worry like a champion. So glad m, too, that Hank and Rachel are having their own adventure. Life is good in moon country. Love.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, Rosemarie- so do I! I always want my kids to be happy, happy, happy! Bluebirds and dollar bills floating around their healthy, happy bodies!
DeleteThe boys did have a good time. They do love coming over. I mean- TV. Purple cows! What could be better?
