Greens

I still love my green porch chair and I think it looks especially fine with Maurice sitting on top of it. I am not exactly happy with her right now because last night as I was walking past her when she was sitting on the back porch table, she reached out and stabbed me with her paw scimitars creating one small three-cornered tear wound and two puncture wounds. And yet you should see her stretched out on Mr. Moon's lap while he's on his laptop in his chair. He lays a towel down underneath her so that she does not inadvertently or accidentally puncture HIM and she stretches her legs out in front of her, basking in the light and warmth of the computer screen, her eyes half closed, the very picture of feline/human companionship.

That cat is not right but I'm not really either and I guess that's why we get along. Except that I've never made her bleed.
Yet.

I was not going to pick any more mulberries today but when I took the compost out and walked by the tree to see how it was doing, I could not stop myself from wiping out my compost container and filling it with more berries. Pie. I will make pie. And this afternoon I was so happy to see that the birds have flocked back to it and are eating happily. There is plenty to share. I have no idea if these are the same birds or a different migratory group. Whatever- they are welcome to eat their fill.

I weeded in the garden some and noticed that we have a banana pepper about ready to be picked on a very small pepper plant. I was surprised to see it but there it was. Remember two years ago when I had so many banana peppers I didn't know what to do with them all? And then last year I got about one decent pepper and it was on a volunteer plant that had sprung up in the banana bed by the kitchen. The volunteer tomato plants there are blooming now. I will be interested to see if we get anything off them. Mr. Moon says that if we do, they are going to be the size of BB's. This could be true.

I also re-weeded outside the garden fence on the east side for the second time and then planted zinnia seeds there. I want hundreds of zinnia blooms! I am watering those in right now.

I picked some greens to go with our supper tonight. Collards and kale. Would you look at this mighty kale leaf?

You could just about use that thing in an anatomy class to explain the human vascular system.
It is simply righteous.

I have taken the ham I bought at Christmas out of the freezer, still in its red foil holiday wrapping. It is in the refrigerator now, hopefully thawing. I need to make sure that it is ready to go in the oven on Happy Jesus Scares The Shit Out Of His Mother By Resurrecting Day.

Oh- here's another thing I did today- I shopped for my summer wardrobe! Online of course. Ebay for gently worn linen dresses, and a company called Natural Life which sells hippie-looking things including dresses. We shall see how that turns out. My main criteria in these purchases were "not hideous" and POCKETS! So that's exciting.
Sort of.

Here's a very romantic picture I took when I was turning the sprinklers on the garden.

Look how sweetly he's enfolding her in his arms, uh, legs.
Lizard love.
Anole amore.

It is spring, after all.

Love...Ms. Moon

    2. I've ordered one dress from them before and it is...okay. A little on the cheapish side but what can you expect for their prices?

  6. I obviously have the same fashion notions as you. I just made myself an apron for the garden out of some fabric which was meant to be made into cushion covers (big fail), but my only requirement is POCKETS!!!! We're easy to please aren't we!

    1. I'm pretty darn easy to please. Comfort and pockets and an absorbable fabric. That's about it.

  7. Nothing says spring like a bit of lizard loving.
Maurice knows that green sets of the colour of her fur just so. She is a glorious cat and needs to be worshipped. Do you trim her claws? Or is that just a silly notion that would result in further bloodshed?

    1. Oh god. Just the thought of trying to trim one of her claws makes me shiver.

  8. The lady lizard has a disinterested eye if I've ever seen one. She seems to be signaling, "Oh, for Pete's sakes, Buddy. I've got better things to do than this. Would you hurry up about it?"

    1. She surely was not putting up a fight. They both seemed very relaxed. Perhaps they were in the post-coital cuddling phase.

  9. I want to warm my spiral cut ham in the crock pot. Do you think that will work? I've been googling it and I think I can. Then I will have room in the oven for my egg/sausage/tater tots casserole to bake.
You are such a good cook - you make everything sound so delicious!

    1. I don't see why it wouldn't. If you've googled it and it seems okay, I'd go for it!

  10. That anole is such a brilliant green. I guess that's how he attracts the female gaze?

I am not doing seeds this year. I just can't bring myself to mess with them. I have a packet of sunflower seeds left over from last year that I will plant, but that's about it.

  11. My friends and I used to climb mulberry trees, sit in the limbs and eat our fill. We’d pick some to take to our Moms, always carrying them in whatever tshirts we were wearing. I love mulberry pie and cobbler. My Mama, however, always a stickler about hanging out her bleached white sheets, cursed those damned birds for ‘polka dotting’ them.

    1. That sounds like a wonderful story, Catrina! I bet your mama was NOT happy about the purple bird poop and I understand.
