Sunday On The St. Marks River

Best part of the entire day for me? When we'd all gotten on the boat and Mr. Moon said, "Owen, trim the engine," and Owen sat down at the controls and trimmed the engine.
I don't even know what that MEANS but obviously, all that time that Owen's spent with his grandfather on the boat in the garage has paid off.

Here's the little sailor boy:

Here's another picture of him, later on in the day when we were on our way back and he was just relaxing, leaning on my leg.

Thinkin' 'bout stuff. Obviously.

He's a deep thinker.

Captain Bop and Gibson:

Gibson slept through his entire first boat ride. And yes, Dr. GradySister, he spent most of it tucked between someone's bosoms. Or at them. Or something having to do with bosoms. Or chests. Whatever.

Hank. Happy because...ARGGGHHH!

Togi. Because...one time he got so sunburned that he writhed in hell for four days afterwards. He ain't taking no chances. Let me just say that Togi jumped in the water. Togi swam. Togi is brave. That water was cold. Rudy, who is also brave, jumped in too. I didn't get a picture. Sorry. He looked pretty fine in those Santa boxers. "I need to do laundry," he said.
I thought they were pretty awesome.

Does anyone know what this flower is? I took it from a long ways a way and didn't even see the bug until I put the pictures on the computer. It's so lovely. The flower, not the bug. Although the bug is interesting.

Yellow flowers. Again- I have no idea what they are. But there were a lot of them.

The new header picture was taken today of course. A palm tree reaching out over the water. I am grateful to live in such a beautiful place. North Florida is pretty awesome if you get out of town and down to the water.

It was a very mellow, sweet day. We had lunch after the boat ride. Owen was so sleepy that he did something I have never seen anyone do before in my life. He ate his shrimp while he was asleep. He literally chewed his shrimp up with his eyes closed. He loved that shrimp. He finished it all. In his sleep. And most of his french fries.

It was a good day. It was a real good day.

  1. That was the first time I have seen someone in a sleep blackout. I feel so rivered and rested right now. Thanks and tell Dad thanks!

  4. Ah, what a lovely day. The new header photo is wonderful too.

The flower looks like my wild roses, they smell divine.

Glad you had such a good day.

  5. Oh, it looks like so much fun. And I could eat some shrimp and fries right about now -- southern style. Yum. My mouth is watering.

I'm glad that the day turned out so well. And the photo is gorgeous --

  6. Those photos of Owen are priceless. He is definitely in charge. I would have gone swimming. I have never eaten shrimp while asleep though I've trimmed the engine more than once. I love all of this. Except unless that's an earwig on the dainty flower.

I dreamed about my tattoo artist and a weird van in my driveway and a woman brushing her teeth in my kitchen who borrowed my big Henry book and it was a library book and it was overdue.

    Your day sounds unbelievably better.
    love,

  7. DTG- I can't believe I'm still up. 9:42 and I'm still up. Not for long. I'll tell Dad what you said.
    Love you, baby.

Nicol- Birds. We saw swifts and an osprey and turtles and pelicans. And mullet jumping. That's all the wildlife.

Kristin- He is. Such a little man.

Mel- I wish I could have gotten close enough to identify those flowers. They were so very pretty.

Elizabeth- The lunch was not great but Owen sure did love those shrimp and fries. Bless his little heart.

Radish King- Well, if you had wanted to go swimming, you sure could have.
I can't even tell you about my dreams. I started to, in an e-mail but them I thought better of it.
    I love you, woman.
And yes, Owen IS in charge. Mostly.

  8. Love the deep thinking pictures of Owen. His big boy haircut makes me want to cry.

I'm glad the flotation devices were fully functioning yet not needed for flotation.

  9. Sigh. This looks like such a dreamy day.

  10. Gradydoctor- Why do we cut our boys hair so short? Ah. It's easy. And yes, Gibson rested well at one bosom or chest after another. I felt comforted by your professional and loving advice.

  11. Bravo for a perfect Florida day on the river!

Is the yellow flower yarrow? I've never seen them growing in water though.

  12. The day my Sweetie had his 4 front teeth knocked out by accident, he insisted on eating the fried shrimp that had been made for dinner. Shrimp are good enough to eat in your sleep, or even without your front teeth.

Glad you all had such a great time.

  13. The river looks beautiful. It makes me want to jump in the car (now that the kids are back to school after Spring Break... I have four so the calm that is so appealing about a river day is really just not so calm) and head down to the Shenandoah. I'm about due for some toe dipping and not too deep thinking. I'm kidding myself though because I'd drown in a sea of guilt for leaving the loud ones behind.

  14. So glad to see you all having this fun and sunny day on the river. I am purt sure from the leaves that the delicate pink flower is a wild rose. And that yellow could be goldenrod, the bane of spring existence for those with bad pollen allergies.

  15. I don't know a lot, but those are wild roses for sure. The yellow ones look like wild mustard, but I have never seen that blooming in water before. It's definitely not that bane of my existence, goldenrod, which is the state flower of Kentucky (WTF were they thinking)?

Love the photos--glad you had such a good day.

  16. Chrissy- It was. Completely.

lulumarie- I have no idea. I don't know shit!

messymimi- It's true. We MUST eat fried shrimp.

Dayna- Hell, the loved ones would survive. I hate guilt. It's the most useless damn emotion. I say go for it.

N2- I'm almost certain that the yellow flower is not goldenrod. I know goldenrod. Plus, it's not blooming here yet. I, too, thought those might be wild roses.

Pamela- I believe you're right about them being roses. Not wild mustard, though. I know wild mustard.
    River mysteries.

Magnum- You know that river, I feel certain.

  17. What a wonderful day out! I just love Owen.

And don't tell anyone ;) but I just know there is a parallel universe out there somewhere where I have stalked Hank and tricked him into being my boyfriend. Hahaha

  18. Owen is the man :)

    what was the AARGGH! for?

  19. Nothing better than a day or a week on the water. It sure cures a lot of ills.

  20. I love that you wrote "loved ones"... they are loved, but I wrote loud. We spent a lot of time together last week so loud seemed more apt at the time I published the comment. I sneak off sometimes but they lay it on thick if I go to the river without their boisterous accompaniment. Guilt is definitely useless. I try to leave it behind but sometimes there it is, hanging on to my ankles.
