A Joyful Shout-out

I just have to do this.

Xbox4NappyRash is the blog of an Irish guy who lives in the Netherlands who has been writing for several years about the difficulties he and his wife have had in trying to conceive a baby. With great humor (often dark) and with only the subject matter of the pieces which must all come together to create life (no pun intended here), he has written honestly and painfully and beautifully about all of the months and years of high hopes and dashed dreams.

And the amazing thing to me is how deeply he has made me care about these struggles.

I've lit candles for these two people whom I've never met.

And yesterday he announced that the Intra-Uterine Insemination procedure which they did two or so weeks ago has worked.
The blog-world is so happy for them.
I am so happy for them.

Like I said, I do not know these people but I have the most powerful feeling that they are going to be World Class Parents and their baby is going to be one of the most loved and welcomed children on earth.

If you've never checked him out, do yourself a favor and go visit his world.
And tell him congratulations if you want to. Hell, he's already reeling, I'm sure. Let's just kick his daddy-to-be-ass out into the stratosphere.

  1. I, too, am a little fond of this Irish Guy and his I-am-sure-lovely wife. And if I knitted, I would SO be knitting booties for them! And the baby too, of course.

XBox- Yes. You are blessed. But not by me.

Windy Days- He is rather popular but don't tell him that.

    Xbox- You did not.

    Adrienne- That's crazy.

Rachel- Getting pregnant was never my problem but I know it must be a terrible suffering to want a baby so bad and not be able to conceive one.

  10. I am so happy for them! I've been lurking all over his blog and thinking so much about them. I almost left a comment the other day but there were already over 200 and everyone said it already. Man, I thought something was in the water over here but I guess the preggers flu has crossed the pond! It's like children of the damned over here. Let's hope these babies aren't born with silver eyes.... We'll love our little demon babies anyway.
Congrats congrats Xbox! You and yours are so so loved!

  11. Miss Maybelle- How can you not love them and their baby-to-be? But please, no demon babies. Please?! And yet, yes, we would love them.

  12. Wow! Since there seem to be so many comments on his blog, I'll leave mine here.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I've enjoyed reading your comments here on the BOH blog. I think you are a very funny guy, and that sense of humor will serve you well. That's a promise. :-)

Many blessings to you and your family.
    Peace,

  14. I know they'd love it anyway, but Ihope Xbox's baby isn't lumpy like that one.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ms. Jo- I think they would even love a lumpy baby with demon eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. it would be just like its dad...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Xbox- As we suspected all along.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm more lumpy and demon-eyed than the current pope...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Xbox- No. That is not possible, dear.

    ReplyDelete
  20. heh, you think, I'll have to send you a photo...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hurray, xbox! I left a comment over at your blog, but I thought I'd put one in over here, too.

How exciting this must be for you! I can't wait til me and my man are enjoying this sort of excitment! A baby!!

Also, I am cracking up over this: "more lumpy and demon-eyed than the current pope".

Photographic evidence WILL be required to prove such a bold claim.

  22. Xbox- Yes. Please do. Lumps and all.

Lady Lemon- He's a clever boy. Which is why I love to read what he writes.

  23. The weirdest thing... Your posts were not appearing for me since the weekend, so I went into my feed reader and refreshed your posts, and THIS popped up on top!

    Odd.

    ReplyDelete
  24. THAT is very, very weird. Almost eerie.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like it down here, down in the archives :-)

Your feed isn't updating for me at all at all at all though...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well that sucks. I wonder why?
You know I've written something every day so just...come on by if you want. I hope all is well, Martin. Are you staying warm? I hope this deathly cold is gone by the time your baby comes. So soon. So soon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well we'll soon see if its just me or not.

Thing is I'm used to being prompted to everyones new posts, it's a mental shift to have to go look. Lazy basically.

There is no fear of us here, I secretly love the freezing cold, and our wee house is as snug as you could ever imagine.

    (word verification is STORC haha)

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is getting beyond weird. Storc? Really?

    Do you use Google reader?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nope I'm a bloglines junkie. So chances are I'm the only one.

But I'll struggle on, I know where to find you!

Oooh, and an exclusive just for your here in the basement, the crib arrived today...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oooh! The crib! Good luck getting the baby to sleep in it. After all the research and pondering Lily did about her crib, the only one to sleep in it so far is the cat. Owen refuses to sleep anywhere but in bed next to his parents or, grudgingly, in his car seat. We're going to have to figure this problem out because he's going to get too big to sleep in that car seat soon. He is growing so fast! Oh, Martin- you have no idea how hard and deeply you are going to fall in love with this child. You may think you have an inkling but YOU DO NOT! Trust me on this.
Aren't you amused that I don't push you to find out the gender of your child?
You know why I don't? Because it doesn't matter in the least. Certainly not to me and it won't to you and Elaine either. You're having a BABY!
    I'm so happy for you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh God, don't say that, that kid is going in there after a day or two and is gonna stay there for 4 years as far as I'm concerned.

I think that was a subtle reverse psychology trick to try and extract the gender from me!

    Tricksy Mrs Moon, tricksy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We'll just see about that crib thing. You won't want to let that baby out of your sight or your reach. I'll bet you big money!
And nope! In my life I have learned that gender doesn't always mean what you think it will and besides that, there are so many other things about our babies which are far more important than what they have or do not have between their legs at birth. Oh sure- it affects everything but it is not the end-all, be-all of identity.
So there- I am telling you the honest truth.
And sending all my love and best wishes. Are you going to tell us when Elaine goes into labor so I can light you a candle? As you know, that candle magic does have some power. Maybe. At least it makes me feel as if I am doing my part.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm just teasing, I know you're not being tricksy.

With the utmost of respect, when the time comes it will be first things first.

Not long now though, you could start lighting anyway ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, my wish for you is that Elaine's labor goes so fast you don't have time to do anything but get her to where she needs to be.
And it is too early to be lighting those candles! You think the Winn Dixie just gives them away?
Ha. I'll be lighting candles for that baby and you know it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. :-)

    Goodnight now Mrs Moon.

(MONAS... sounds like it should mean something)

    ReplyDelete
  36. And to you too. I've enjoyed the chat. Sleep while you can and sweet dreams.

Tell me, sweeties. Tell me what you think.
