Last night before supper, Mr. Moon and I had a martini on the porch and the boys joined us with glasses of ginger ale. I was surprised that they agreed to leave the TV for that long but they seemed amiable about it. We talked about stuff and looked at the plants and saw an anole courting the object of his affection by puffing his red throat out in a manly fashion and doing push-ups with his strong, tiny arms.
Everyone agreed that the chicken and dumplings were superb and large bowls of the stuff were consumed. There were no purple cows after supper though, because the boys had seen a box of Healthy Choice fudge-sickles in the freezer and they wanted those instead. Eating them seemed to induce a rather blissed out state.
Mr. Moon handled shower time last night while I did the dishes. Of course I had to go check on them though.
Just like last time there were here, they decided to clean my shower for me. Mr. Moon kept saying, "That's not the right kind of soap!" He is such a stickler for details. The boys are quite happy to use my bar of soap and the squeegee.
Then into pajamas and brushing teeth and they both picked out a book. By this time of night they were wired and wild and everything is hysterical to them. The term "bootie butt" was used frequently. We read the books and then I tucked them in but they not exactly settling down so I kissed them goodnight and went and told their grandfather to deal with the situation.
Which he did. For some odd reason, they will listen to him when they won't listen to me. Oh, they listen to me, they just don't take what I say seriously. They know I'm a huge pushover.
But within minutes they were asleep and although Mr. Moon said that at six o'clock this morning he heard them awake in their room, talking and giggling, they did not come into our room until later. I slept through that and I hear that there was much merriment over my snoring.
How rude! I get no respect.

August had to be at dance by 10:15 so I was up early-ish to make the pancakes. We actually totally miscalculated our timing and they got to the dance place far ahead of time. But that's okay.
And for some odd reason, I was quite tired today although I got some things done.
I took this picture to show off the beautiful silk scarf that Jessie found and brought me.
"Are you sure you don't want it?" I asked her.
"Are you sure you don't want it?" I asked her.
"I don't know what I'd do with it," she said.
"Hang it in a window!" I told her.
"Ummm...I don't really do that."
"Hang it in a window!" I told her.
"Ummm...I don't really do that."
But she knows I do. I'm not sure where it'll go yet but it will go somewhere.
Mr. Moon told me that today was the day and that I should clear out the laundry room because he was bringing the folding table over.
WHOA!
WHOA!
So I got busy with that and of course then I had to clean things and dust things which I did and even mopped. He's in there right now, screwing the top on it.
I am pretty darn excited!
And then because I was in cleaning/tidying mode I finally got rid of all of the garlic braids that I've had hanging on the porch for about six months that I'd cut the garlic bulbs off of. So at least that part of the porch is a little tidier.
Also, you can see my strange and yet beloved wood-cut panels that I got a long, long time ago at the Bad Girls Get Saved By Jesus Thrift Store. I love them. Someone carved and painted those panels with their very own hands.
Each one different, yet obviously they all belong together. I wish I knew their story.
And here's a beautiful hand-made thing that I do know the story of.
A thing of beauty. A heart-gift.
Look at that beautiful wood our old cherry tree gave us and which my husband treated with such love and care.
I walk through that room at least twenty times a day and every time I do, my heart will be so happy. Not just because I have a gorgeous, functional folding and storage space, but because I have been gifted with beauty.
My grandfather, the wood-worker, would approve, I do believe.
I am a lucky woman.
Love...Ms. Moon
THAT is one gorgeous folding table indeed! Well done, Mr. Moon!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
and yes, beautiful scarf! I KNOW you will hang that where it shines LOL! Good score by Jessie! Susan M
DeleteI love my table so much!
DeleteJessie found that scarf in a box of things by the road. Ha! She has learned from her mother well.
I really like those hand carved and hand painted wooden panels!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the luster and sheen of that gorgeous cherry wood table! Mr. Moon ... you did a beautiful job on that table! 👏
Didn't he? Every inch of it says love to me.
DeleteWhat a beautiful table Mr. Moon made! Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAnother talent that I really did not know he had.
DeleteMy father and brother, master wood crafters, certainly would approve, down to the cherry. My brother carted around a log from the cherry in my grandmother's back yard, until he had a planer to use.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that is a beautiful scarf Jessie gave you. I will be interested to see where/how you use it.
My granddaddy kept wood stored in his garage workshop for his projects. I remember that so well. His shop was very tidy and well-ordered. Just like he was.
DeleteI haven't yet figured out where the scarf wants to but I will.
That is such a beautiful table, even more beautiful because it came from your own tree.
ReplyDeleteI like how Jessie said, "Ummm, I don't really do that." Me neither but I do think it's a beautiful scarf. You will put it to beautiful use.
Isn't that table a wonder? And yes- OUR tree!
DeleteJessie's a hoot. She does not lie, that girl. She is somewhat Bohemian but not as much as her mama.
That table is a thing of beauty and made with love. I love those wood panels too! I’m glad they’re being appreciated again.
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Barbara
Me too, Barbara.
DeleteThat is the most magnificent table. It almost seems a shame to keep it in the laundry.
ReplyDeleteI know. But like I said- I walk through that room so many times a day which will give me so many opportunities to love it.
DeleteWhat a work of art is that table. Only the best for Mrs Moon!
ReplyDeleteOnly the best FROM MR. Moon.
DeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou should see it in person!
DeleteOh my! That is a damn fine table! I'll admit I'm a wee bit envious of your laundry setup...along with that view out the window...I would be the most happy folder-of-the-laundry ever! I think Mr Moon is deserving of one of your special desserts...German chocolate cake or that chocolate pudding layer thingy or as Bob Marley would sing just give him some good, good lovin'!
ReplyDeleteI love furniture with a good story and meaning...I can see that table becoming a treasured Moon family heirloom. It's truly special.
Love, Angie D
Well, I made him cookies today and have loved on him well. So he's happy.
DeleteI think the table will be around long after we are.
Wired and Wild, a perfect description of the boys, well most boys by bedtime anyway. One of mine used to say "but I'm not tired" then be sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. I'm envious of the beautiful monsteras on your porch, the green is so deep. I hope mine will get that deep eventually. I LOVE the folding table, I don't think I will ever see a better one.
ReplyDeleteThose monsteras came from a plant that I got at the dump! Someone had brought a plant in a pot in a plant stand and when I asked the attendant if it would be okay if I took the plant he said, "Take the stand too!" And so I did. I have divided it several times already. The plant. Not the stand.
DeleteI could spend hours in your house admiring all your beautiful things. That table......wow! I also like the stained glass? panel hanging in the window. What came first? The panel or the paint colour round the window?
ReplyDeleteMy darling friend Lynn made that hanging stained glass panel a long time ago. And the color of the laundry room window was there when we moved in which is why I hung the glass there. Perfect, yes?
DeletePS Did you see anything of our Coronation? We watched in on TV for about 4 hours. Some of the religious stuff got a bit tedious and a lot of the choirs' singing wasn't to my taste but all in all it went very well. How it was organised leaves me totally amazed.
ReplyDeleteI did not watch any of it. I've seen a few clips and pictures. It all seems so bizarre to me. Probably because it's such a different cultural event than anything we experience here in the US.
DeleteYour home is just lovely!!!! And well done Mr. Moon on that beautiful table!
ReplyDeleteMy home is beautiful to me. It is somewhat funky but that's why I love it.
DeleteThat is a gorgeous table! I think the scarf is a Liberty London...good find.
ReplyDeleteDo you think so? Well, whatever it is, I like it.
DeleteThat table is a thing of beauty, perfectly designed. Just perfect. I will bet that the scarf will glow like a piece of stained glass when the sun shines through it. I love the little treasures we discover as we amble through our lives. They weave themselves into our story, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThey do, Debby! It's almost like some things find us.
DeleteMr. Moon made very, very careful calculations about what I would need and what would best suit that. He did a great job.
When I read "today was the day" for the table I got excited so I can definitely understand your excitement 😊. I think I'd give up TV for a glass of ginger ale on your porch any day. Friday martinis with you guys is a little gift for my heart every week.
ReplyDeleteAh...
DeleteI adore you, Jill.
what a beautiful table. so well designed and fabricated. Mr. Moon is amazing.
ReplyDeleteand that is a beautiful scarf.
DeleteHe is amazing. There is no doubt. I sort of love him a lot.
DeleteMr. Moon sure can do a lot of stuff well! I wonder how he learned to be so good at everything?! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHe learned a whole lot of what he knows how to do from his daddy who, due to necessity, was very, very good at many things, from woodworking to auto repair, from fishing to hunting to not being afraid to tackle hard things.
DeleteThat table is astonishing, especially since it came from your own tree! Who can say that about any of their furniture? Not me, that's for sure. I also love your porch wood panels. Someone was very proud of them at one time, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteYou are RIGHT! Not that many people have furniture made from a tree that came from their property. Not these days, anyway. It feels very righteous somehow.
DeleteAnd I bet someone was quite proud of those wood panels. Hell, I would be if I made them.
