A Very Decent Sunday

I decided that it was finally time to take down my Christmas decorations today and so I did.
Well, I sort of did.
I unwove the vintage Santa lights from the stairs and wound them up and put them in their vintage Santa box although not in the way they were meant to be arranged. Rubber bands were involved.
I say I "sort of" took down my Christmas decorations because I have yet to take the little battery twinkle lights off the Norfolk Island Pine. But hey- how much holiday stuff can a woman do in one day?
If the woman is me, not much.
Besides, I really like those twinkle lights. They might stay up for awhile.

While I was in decor mode, I hung the darling Rolling Stones ornament that Rachel and Hank got me for Christmas. I could not figure out where to put it because it doesn't exactly fit in to what I perceive as my vision when it comes to hanging random items on walls and from...things.
But then it occurred to me that I was being completely ridiculous. AS IF I had a vision of anything used as decoration in this house. So I gave the ornament a place of high pride which is above the kitchen sink. That lacy thing behind it is indeed lace, a runner, I think, that I picked up somewhere which works perfectly to block some of the horrendous fluorescent light which is behind it. And give that area a little Classy McClassness.

Am I right?
Haha!
I do not mind Christmas decorations at all, and in fact, I like many of them so much I keep them hung up all year, every year.
For example.

I've discussed those star lights which have been shining on and off for so many years it seems impossible.
The vintage ornaments above the doorway were ones Glen's parents owned. I love them so much I could not fathom putting them away for fifty-one weeks of the year and so I didn't. They are hung from over the door to the library, across the stretch of kitchen wall behind a bookshelf where I keep cookbooks and the refrigerator and then over that doorway into the hall. They end here.

There is a story to those little cherubim but no need to go into that tonight. Bottom line is, I love them.

I got Owen's jeans sewn up today. They're not going to rip in the same place again, I will tell you that, but my needlework leaves a lot to be desired. I feel that it was a learning experience and as such, was quite valuable and Owen won't care a bit.

Maurice doing quality control, as she does.
She didn't seem to care either.
But now I think I know how to better do what I was aiming for and have a pair of Mr. Moon's overalls that are also ripped to test that theory out.

The sun came out again today. When I went to the garden to pick salad for tonight's supper, the sky was gray and dismal but by the time I'd filled my basket, I looked up to see this.

Wait. What?
And before too long, all of the clouds from our patch of sky were gone. We did get a nice amount of rain yesterday though, and I will not begrudge gray skies which bring that.

Here are what the tiny collard sprouts are looking like.

Oak leaves for scale.
Nah, they were just there.

It's been a sweet day and although I have not completely done a news blackout for myself, I have tried to take everything in stride, knowing that resistance is NOT futile and knowledge is power.
And then threaded my needle again.
I did watch the short little video HERE and it at least made my heart a little lighter. I do indeed love Seth Rogan. He speaks the truth and fears no man which is something we could all aspire to.

Spaghetti sauce on the stove, one of the ingredients being a jar of golden cherry tomatoes I canned two summers ago. They are as sweet as jam, no sugar needed.

Tomorrow I'll be getting my scan at 11 and then we'll go from there.

See you tomorrow.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I’ve been quilting as my own sort of resistance. I can only handle so much world pain before the weight starts to crush me. And i can’t have that. Self care is a priority or it should be.
Your sauce sounds divine! I’ll bet it was delicious.

    1. We certainly can't take care of anyone else if we don't take care of ourselves. Quilting is probably a great thing to be doing at this moment in time.

    2. Also yes- the sauce was good!

  2. I used to have a few cherubim around the place before I moved here and sent them to a thrift shop when packing to move because I had seen what this place looked like and knew there would be no space for them, but I hadn't considered door frames. I also love the vintage ornaments and your permanent star lights. Your home would be so bland if you took all those down. They are "you".

    1. Oh, who knows? Perhaps the house would be more beautiful, just wearing it's own skin. We'll never know while I live here.
Those angel babies are designed for a doorframe. Clever, aren't they?

    2. Houses are supposed to take on the personalities of those who live there, that's what makes it a home rather than just a house. Furniture is fine, but it's the knick-knacks and other little personal loved items that tell the story of you, that makes the difference.

  3. Seth nailed it, Dude, it would be cool if...
A scan sounds like an incomplete reading- A glimpse, a nod, a reader's digest version- I hope it goes according to plan and that it scares the stones into submission!
I took the fairy lights down- the house is sad, i will put them back up. We still have two or three months of darkness here.

    1. I do love Seth.
We shall see what the scan showed. I hope it's NOT incomplete.
Yes. Definitely put the fairy lights back up.

  4. Great non-holiday decorations everywhere to enjoy. Yes indeed, keep your own sanity first…and get the stone (not the rolling kind) out of there!

    1. Why should we keep the things we love to look at in a dark closet? Hmmm...
      That sounds metaphorical, doesn't it?

  5. I like the idea of treasured Christmas ornaments being up all year long. Why the hell not?

  6. I especially like the idea of keeping the lights on the Norfolk island pine. My two gangs of creche figures with backup baby, will go back in the box on January 6. Now I have to check when that is, a little mixed up with my days.

    1. As I am writing this it is still January 5.
"...gangs of creche figures with backup baby..."
      I love that!

  8. I’m tempted to leave some of our ornaments out. Hmmm. Great denim repair. My favorite jeans have worn out in the crotch, not in a seam. Maybe I’ll get an iron-on patch for the inside. But then I have to get out the iron. A very cool Stones ornament.

    1. Mitchell- you've got some ornaments that are so beautiful it is a sin to put them away for eleven months of the year.
Yes, I have noticed that men's jeans do indeed wear thinnest in what I call "the crotchular area." A term I did not learn in nursing school.
Iron-on patch? Really? I know darn well you could do beautiful mending if you wanted to.
      If...you wanted to.

    2. I once used iron-on patches on a cotton jacket, then I embroidered on the patches and all around them. Back in the days before I had a computer, so I had more time AND was able to see to thread a needle.

  9. I hope the scan has gone well by the time you read this.
You did an excellent job of sewing up those jeans. I've been adding patches to the knees of Jack's sweat pants. He likes to slide on his knees like one of his favorite soccer players and the knees are all worn out.
It's fucking cold here, thought you'd like to know that. 0 F, and then it's supposed to warm up to 0 C by tomorrow. Makes no sense but I'll take it.
    Take care sweetie.

    1. If YOU say it's fucking cold, I don't even want to think about it. Out of curiosity, what do you wear when you go outside in weather like that?
Yes. Little guys surely can wear out the knees of their britches.

  10. I wish I had a light over my sink; the overhead kitchen light is behind me and I can't always see if I get the dishes clean. And I am such a splasher that I would ruin any little pictures or ornaments I placed so close to my sink like yours

    1. Ideally, I wish I had a window over my sink but I do not.
I do sometimes splash the stuff behind the faucets but not too badly. I wouldn't put any priceless objects there.

  11. I kept busy Saturday and Sunday only checking the state of things now and then. Like you say, knowledge is power but no need to wallow in it when things need to be done around here. Life goes on.

    1. Exactly. Wallowing is really best left to our porcine friends.

  12. Oh Mary, I have been so sick with this damn flu that I haven't been out of bed in over a week and haven't been able to keep up on blog reading and commenting. I just lay there coughing 24/7 which means very little sleep and a sore throat. I saw the doctor again today and have more meds to take to knock out all of these infections from the damn flu. and I even had a flu shot, too. Hope your scans went well....

  13. Keeping your vintage Christmas ornaments hung and fairy lights on the Norfolk pine sounds perfect to me. I keep my crystal Christmas trees out all year too. They cast rainbows when the sunshine hits them. Anything that creates a happy glow is good.

  14. I love that little painting atop your doorframe, the Day of the Dead figure in the dress and hat.

I still haven't taken down our Christmas lights. I'm enjoying them!
